Natural remedy for getting rid of Ants in the kitchen.

- In this video we demonstrate a natural remedy for getting rid of ants in the kitchen. This was done WITHOUT pesticides and was very simple. We will show the ants in our kitchen and the natural items we used to get rid of them. If you have children or pets you know how dangerous pesticides can be to them. They don't know the danger of these chemicals. The items we used are safe to eat and included in a lot of recipes. So if you need to exterminate ants, this is a safe way to get rid of them.

I made 2 different piles for the ants. One was the baking soda and powdered sugar, the other was almond flour and baking soda. Apparently, I had the protein-seeking kind of ants as they devoured the almond flour mixture and I kept having to give them more! It’s been out for almost two days and they have slowed dramatically. There are even some dying right on top of the mixture, probably after already making a trip or two and ingesting it while carrying it. Thank you so much for this information…you have saved my kitchen and given me a new inexpensive solution for years to come! 😊
We had someone else talk about the protein-eating ants. Glad to offer this solution. Happy that it worked for you! Thank you for the kind comment and for visiting, have a great day.
Good job. I like the part where the ants even took the sticky spot, funny.

Hey Wayne, thanks for sharing with us! I will be trying your tip today! In exchange wanted to let you know that if you ever need powdered sugar in a pinch you can just put regular sugar in the coffee grinder or blender. (Some add a tad of cornstarch as well) Have a great day!

We're starting to see some ants in the kitchen now that it's warming up (and now that our puppy, Daisy, gets her food everywhere) so we will have to give this a try! Thanks Wayne! (and the lovely "camera lady" ;))

Thank you!! I noticed ants on my patio deck 3 days ago so threw out some baking soda. Well, I think I pushed them in because I had a lot inside my bedroom where the sliding door was. Thank you for telling me it's about a week. I just did the mixture last night (used regular sugar as well. All I had) and saw a lot just now and panicked. Will just keep refreshing as there's quite a few dead ones in the current mixture.
Good luck, it did work for us. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

Baking soda and Jiffy cornbread w/ honey works on mice and rats too . I use a Folders coffee can ( plastic ) flip it upside-down using the lid as a dish for the Baking soda mix . ( equal parts ) Make a hole so they can get in . I put these around my house especially in September. It kills them but wont hurt other animals that will eat them . I haven't had mice in my house for over 5 year's. 😊 THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIP !! ❤

Thank you kind soul! I never knew that. I found quite by mistake you can spray them with Windex, it kills them with no harm to you, your family or pets, but there is clean up after. I prefer your method! Will try it tomorrow.
I also use Windex some, but it only kills the ones you spray, not the ones in the nest. Good luck with your project and have a great day.

I was up late tonight and I just found ants on my kitchen counter so I wanted to find ways to get rid of them to try to save my parents from the headache I’m gonna try this thank you! I’ll let you know how it works
Great! We would appreciate the feedback! Good luck with your project and have a great day.
1. You can make powdered sugar from regular granulated sugar simply by putting the sugar in blender and hit pulse till it becomes powdered… blending breaks up the granules
2. You should use powdered because Anys can separate the granules from the baking soda. Then you’re just feeding the ants not killing the by digesting the baking soda.
Thank you for your suggestion and for visiting our channel. We hope you have a great day.

IT WORKED. THANK YOU

I think mixing with some water would be more effective (and a few drops of solid food). The issue is that borax can be toxic to pets, so the baking soda can be a good alternative if you have pets and don't want to risk your pets accidentaly ingesting the borax

Your so welcome! You have a wonderful day as well☺
This worked excellent for me. Just like you said, I mixed equal parts Baking Soda and White Sugar, put it in an old salt shaker, then just sprinkled it where the ants were. In the morning they were gone. A few came back so I sprinkled some more and they were soon gone too. Some sites recommend mixing with water and spraying but it's much easier the way I did it. Some sites recommend Borax but I wouldn't have a purpose for it after the ants were gone so I just chose the easiest method.
Thank you for the kind comment and for visiting, have a great day.
when you say "Equal Parts" exactly how much did you use? And the salt shaker is a great idea:)
I maybe used a teaspoon but it depends on how much you need.
did you use powdered sugar or regular white sugar?
@@Versacici We used white regular sugar but the powered sugar would be better. However, both will work.
Another good way to get rid of ants is to sprinkle cinnamon around, with a dry paper towel force it into places where they come in. Gone fast & forever.
That does work but in my case they just found another way in. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
I’m doing both. I have cinnamon sprinkled and have the baking soda and powdered sugar . Thank you
This didn’t work for me

Yeah, the ants will pick the granules out and run off with them leaving the baking soda. Takes longer to work. You can put regular granulated sugar in the food processor or blender to grind it down to powder. Like you said, most UA-cam videos use Borax, powdered sugar and if desperately bad, add a little honey.
Thank you for your suggestion and for visiting our channel. We hope you have a great day.
Thank you, now I am away to try it, will let you know what happens.
It worked for us. I hope it works for you. Good luck with your project and have a great day.

Good luck! Let us know if this worked for you.
Well it’s been one day. I do see the ants consuming this but then walking off. I suppose it doesn’t kill them instantly but maybe take a while? Gonna give it a week with the powder mixture out.
You are correct, it does not kill them instantly. It will take a few days but the good thing is they also carry the mixture back to the nest.
God bless. I'm gonna try this out. I wonder if I can melt the 2 with tiny bit of water and heat then let them harden. I'll try it both ways.
Good luck with your project and have a great day!.
Thank you let us know know if it work in about a week
It did work. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
Hi Wayne, have quite an ant problem in my kitchen. Last year I was having to apply boric acid 3 times a day, for a month, and I finally got rid of them. There back now that it’s warming up. Mine are not attracted to sugar, but rather protein, like butter, but they also ate my playtex gloves, and the putty that holds the sink in place. What food can I bait them with to get them to walk through the baking soda? They just walk around it, which is why I have to keep applying the powder, and am having so much trouble getting rid of them.
If they will eat the butter, you might try mixing the baking soda into the butter. They need to eat some of the baking soda for this method to work. You surely have a different kind on ant than we have in NC. Good luck and thank you for visiting. Have a great day.
@@DIYwithWayne Thank you for your reply. Yes, we do have “sugar ants”, but I’ve never had trouble with them. Just these other ones, and they’re eating my house! Will try mixing with butter.
@@DIYwithWayne😊
Thank you! I will try it with the borox. Why the sugar ? Because of the sweetness?
Yes, the sugar helps attract them. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
Hey Wayne, the crew over here purchased and plugged in (ie; 120v) one of those small Bell & Howell ultra sonic units. Skeptical at first, but the phriggin' things proved to be effective. BTW - pets and people are unable to hear this high frequency but insects especially ANTS go batty and can't retreat fast enough. Hope this helps Yo ! 🚫 🐜 🚫. 👉 🎯
Thank you for your suggestion and for visiting our channel. We hope you have a great day.
Does this work outdoors as well along the doors and edges of the home?
We've never tried it outdoors, but as long as it can be kept dry, I think it should work.
I found this trick put the ants to sleep or rest mode. You go and move it to throw away they start moving rapidly .
Interesting observation! Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
Can you use confectioners sugar as powered sugar?
Yes you can. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
Would it be effective to sprinkle the mixture around the outside of house
I have not tried that but expect it will work. If you do try it. please let me know if it worked. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
How much sugar in how much baking soda do I put it out and they seem to not be getting a response I don't know if I used too much baking soda I did half and half powdered sugar and baking soda
Half and half should work fine. Sometimes it takes quite a bit of time to see results. If they are not drawn to it, try putting a drop of honey or a drop of fruit juice on top. Hope you soon get a response. Ants can be so aggravating. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
@pwnoonan4059 - the instructions say Regular White Sugar and Baking Soda. It worked well for me.
What can we mix with the baking soda if they ignore sugary things?
That's a good question. I have not tried other things but I would suggest trying some of whatever they are getting into. Thank you for visiting and good luck.
How many filters did you use and where all did you place them?
I only used 1 filter and placed it where the ants came in. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
@@DIYwithWaynethank you very much!
How much do you put on it?
We used equal parts sugar and baking soda, but it doesn't have to be any exact amount. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
Better than spraying chemicals in the room where you make your food...
Yes it is! Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
@@DIYwithWayne I have 3 coffee filter traps down as I type this. I used powdered sugar so I will see if it works faster than a week..

@@richardkalmwater5996did it work?!
HOW DOES IT WORK? DO THE ANTS EAT THE MIXTURE AND DIE OR DOES JUST THE PRESENCE OF THE MIXTURE ON THE COUNTER STOP THEM?
The baking soda kills ants by drying out their bodies and disrupting their natural chemistry. They eat some of it and carry some back to their colony and eventually kill all the ants. Thanks for the question, have a great day.
Some ants only eat protein, not sugar.
You're right, I would think this would work for protein seeking ants, if you mixed the baking soda with some type of protein. We haven't had that type of ant, so have never tried that.
But i have protein seeking ants though so how do i get rid of those cause they don't care for sugar much.
Mix the baking soda with a protein containing food that they would be drawn to. Place this where you are seeing the ants over several days. It will take a few days before you see less ants. Good luck with your project and have a great day.
@@DIYwithWayne Thank you kindly sir 👍
What kind of plant are you growing in the kitchen window?
Those are sweet potatoes. We are letting them sprout to be planted in the garden. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
I have been using Terro - the liquid ant baits thing, but now it seems as they are killed for now, then a month later, then they come back from the same location, which makes me wonder if the braits actually kill the queens (I saw 3 big ants came out)...when you see so many ants outside, do you think if you kill them, leave the baits out again, then kill them again, eventually they won't go inside to feed the queens? Can that work?
You have a very good question, but I don't have an answer. If you try it and it works, please let us know. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
Can I put this solution inside of the chimney to address ants there?
I would think that should work. We've never used it in that way.
🎉👍🏻
Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
I use borax instead of baking soda.
Using borax might not be a good idea around your home, borax (sodium borate) can be poisonous if ingested, inhaled, or comes into contact with your skin or eyes. This could be a problem if you have small children or pets. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
Im trying this with powdered sugar... Wish me luck
The powered sugar will work well. Good luck with your project and have a great day.
@jpartieda - Regular White Sugar works just fine.
So what does this do? Poison them?
The baking soda kills ants by drying out their bodies and disrupting their natural chemistry. Thanks for the question, have a great day.
