    The movie opens speaking of Peking. Now communist China, economic power house, and the White House defends borrowing from the same dictatorship which hacks into every aspect of our government and industry, to pay the interest on the skyrocketing debt. Who would have thought watching this picture in 1949 that Mainland China would soon be Red China, years alter emerging from a 3rd world, with massive Western assistance, to be an even larger military and economic threat to the entire world.

    Man oh man! Those cars in color, and those white walls are a gas! I love them! And those hood ornaments knock me out! Those crazy gigantic skinny steering wheels are insane! And of course the convertible is awesome! One thing for sure, you won't see any vehicle any newer than the year the film was made.
    Then there are spy agents, field officers, espionage and cutting out of tongues, oh my! There is this country and that country and of course there is Washington. Great movie and excellent visual considering the year the film was made. Love it! Thanks for posting! 👍👍😎🇺🇸

    During this time period, China was awash with terror, as this film portrays.
    China has an incredible history, with a vast array of technology far superior to anything Europe had to offer.
    Moving into the 21st century, China has secretly stolen the technology of any and every country across the globe, particularly in the United States.
    Having the background I do in studying the history of the intelligence community, I know for a fact that there are more Chinese spies on assignment here than at any other time in history. My information comes from a well placed source formerly associated with a three letter agency whose headquarters are located in Langley, Virginia.
    Having said that to address current day issues, this is a film I've never even heard of, let alone seen. Many thanks for posting it!👍🏻👍🏻

    Virginia Bruce (born 1909) looks older than William Lundigan (born 1914). She looks older than she should, at age 40. I remember her as a blonde in the 1934 film 'Dangerous Corner', where she was a young-looking blonde with a lighter and softer voice.

    • @leelarson107
      @leelarson107 3 роки тому +2

      That 'softer voice' was actually thinner. Smoking tends to deepen a woman's voice. In this case the deeper voice made her sound a little more relaxed and less pretentious.

    I took the foreign service exam in 1974, panel evaluation and security background checks in 1975 and entered the foreign service in 1976. The selection process for FSOs was pretty much the same as shown in the film. Amazing. Beyond the opening selection process, the film was really an Eastern Western! No relation to reality at all.

    Gee, great propaganda. Does anybody remember "internal aggression"? That was when the people of a country decided to pursue an independent path of development, ie anti-colonialism, thus spurning the offer of disinterested, altruistic U.S. assistance. In doing so, strictly within their own borders and under their own laws, they were committing internal aggression- against themselves. See, they didn't know what was good for them. So they needed American help and protection. And the fact they didn't want these things only showed how much they needed them. That's how Uncle Sam worked it. Sounds screwy, but you'd be amazed how many Americans swallowed this stuff. Or maybe you wouldn't.

      Elizabeth Brower, what our government then was worried about, was communism, the idea that basically everyone benefits equally, something the western elite didn't want to catch on in the countries what we controlled or wanted to control, and yes I was alive then.

    I remember watching all those Pro-American movies back when I was a kid. I thought of them the same then as now - in that Hollywood used way too much stereotypical myths of the Chinese people - - what with their Fu Manchu mustaches, hands in their sleeves, and posh dress, when in fact the Chinese then and now dressed much as any people do. Even to the point of using Americans dressed as Chinese for lead rolls when there were 100s of actors of Chinese/Asian decent. Pure American Prejudice.
