The two tone, black top with semi-bright stainless sides, finish Colt put on really looks sharp. I really like the way Colt has modernized their entire 1911 lineup since their restructuring back in 2016. I think Colt is making some of the best 1911's now that they have ever done, period.
I can’t wait for mine to arrive I got one from buds I’m going to get it out in January! I had the two tone and a Wilson full length guide rod that I’m going to put in it.
I am looking into buying the new Colt Combat Elite 5 inch government model. I have fired a Colt 1911 in .38 Super over 20 years ago. It was a nice shooting gun. I think that the 1911 platform is very capable and dependable in either .45 ACP or in .9mm.
Enjoy your videos and web pages Hunter, just ordered a CCE commander, it will be my 3rd Colt 1911, the price is 200 dollars over msrp. You get what you pay for IMO, don't throw your money away buying any of those imported 1911s. Some say they are just as good as a Colt, most aftermarket parts for the 1911 are made to fit a Colt, once you start customizing your 1911 you find out what the term "may require minimum fitting" means.
I own a Defender combat elite. All stainless steel slide and frame. No aluminum no nonsense all colt. I love it!!! Finish has held up awesome. I have 3000 + rounds down the pipe. Haven't had any problem with it other than learning how to hold it properly so it could do its job flawlessly. Different than a government because of it's shorter recoil. Loud and way more accurate than i can hold still for after a 100 round practice session. Magazine is nice as well but purchased some Wilson combat because every colt deserves a willy😁.
I have had a Kimber Ultra Carry II in SS for many years (45), now have the Commander in 9 mm and expect to enjoy it even more with the longer barrel. At one time Kimber was my dream pistol, but I wanted a 9 mm. You missed in the description the nice depression for the right thumb which guides the thumb directly to the magazine release--something that could save your sight picture in an anxious situation (changing magazines).
You have a point but the depression in the stocks lines up for some but does not for others so I omitted it because it is inconsequential for many shooters.
I have a Colt government model comp series in stainless. The pistol shoots fine but I had to work on the grip safety. I shoot with my thumb on top of the hammer safety and could not always get the grip safety to release properly it had to be pushed in almost all the way to release. I fixed it but was wondering if you noticed the same thing?
Nothing like with this pistol but it is typical for the grip safety to have to be depressed to unblock the trigger. Did your grip safety have a palm swell.
@@rangehot yes it does but I own quite a few 1911 's and most of the grip safety's release before half of their travel and this one needed to be pushed in most of the way and I could swear it was still rubbing the trigger bow. I removed it and fit it to release at 1/3 of it's travel and the trigger pull dropped almost a pound . I just think it just got missed at the factory because there were no signs that it had been adjusted at all but it's beautiful now!
I wish they offered these in a .40 and 10mm. I like the 3” barrel but the 45 out of the 3” barrel has a problem opening up hollow points due to its slow speed. The compact with the .40 Or the 10mm would be better than the 9mm offering. Not cheaper to shoot though. But that’s ok with me.
I've narrowed my searches for purchase to the Colt Defender 45acp and the Fusion Firearms Thorn D. I don't get a whole lot of detailed info on either. All I want is something that's going to be reliable and dependable no matter what I feed that thing. Do you have an opinion that will help or possibly a better option that will help me solidify to one? Thank you
@josephcoats3445 I have a little experience with Fusion Firearms and I believe they make fine pistols but I would go with Colt. I am currently reviewing the Combat Elite Defender and that is an excellent carry gun. With Colt I believe you will get the better deal due to the pedigree and history of the company building guns for so many years.
Good Morning Boss i have this Same model in 9mm commander size Ive been having a problem with the pistol it has around 800 rounds on it.. every time i go to the range & shoot after the last round the slide wont stay open it goes straight to home i bought new mags thinking that was the problem. And still having this same problem.... what do you think? I heard it migth be the slide stop??? Have a great day Boss
What magazines are you using? Look closely at the follower to be sure there is a ledge that is part of the follower but is just under the where the round sits,on the righy side. That ledge is what engages the slide stop when the magazine runs dry. Check the lug on the slide stop, the part that protrudes through the receiver into the top of the magazine well. That lug on the slide stop is what engauges the follower.
How is the black finish holding up? Is it getting scratched up-worn, or is it staying pretty nice? Also Kimber has an Eclipse Custom that looks very similar. Would you recommend the Colt over that one? Thanks!
@@rangehot been having trouble with gunbroker cause I live in Virginia. hopefully now that they voted against the gun bans for another year I might find something
Nagels in San Antonio has them in stock. Both 9 and 45, long and short. Get it sent to your ffl. They’ve been in business since 1942. Good guy and good price.
Great video, as always. Really like the way you explain things. Also, it's awesome to see someone who actually knows how to detail strip a 1911.
Thank you very much for your kind words.
Great review, as usual. Thanks for posting.

I agree with you 100%. Colt is making great strides to fill the role they used to own.

Colt should do a CCO version of the Combat Elite. That'd be a sweet carry gun right there.

The Defender is a fine pistol and I am glad Colt added the Combat Elite package to it.

I just bought one of these yesterday I hope it’s a good shooter for 45 5 inch barrel combat elite
It is, I am sure.
Where did you find one
Colt sent me this one for review as a test sample.
I also like your clear, calm explanations with that southern accent ))
Thank you very much.

Hornady has a load developed for short barreled .45s that do pretty good but I agree, a small 10mm would be a great concealed carry pistol.

Does this Colt 1911 have any MIM parts? Thanks
Sear, disconnecter, and magazine catch are MIM.
Any opinion of Wilson Combat 10--round mag in the 9 mm Colt Commander Elite?
I do not like Wilson Combat magazines, at all.

So far the finish has held up quite well. Colt over Kimber without a doubt.
hows the slide to frame fit
Very snug but not so snug you need tools to field strip it.
Beautiful gun! Question. Is the main spring house made out of metal as well or hard plastic?
Thanks
steel MSH
Is easy to scatch in the black skin side ?
No the black is DLC , that won't scratch easily. The stainless does scratch easier.
I bought the test gun and it has still held up well.
Maybe I don’t know about being “New” but I bought a new Colt Combat elite in 1993
i been trying to get one of these for 5 months now. everyone including colt is out of stock. any suggestions on where I might find one?
Have you looked online to see if like Gunbroker has one that can be shipped to your FFL?

Just purchased one off Buds gunshop

Are the internal parts cast or MIM?
As far as I know the sear, disconnecter, and magazine catch are MIM. I think the thumb safety is cast.
Plastic guid rod?
no

Beautiful pistol the symbol of liberty to me.
You and me both.
Nice looking pony. Good video as always.
Thank you very much Chad.
Very cool Gun and video!
Thank you very much Don.
I bought a Kimber for around the same $$ in a .45 several years ago . New
Yeti8it I’d rather have the combat elite without any doubt. Friends don’t let friends buy keltecs and kimbers.
Good video 👍
Thank you very much.
Still this is a nice Pistol ...also nice to see ladies shooting this weapon
This beauty is illegal in MA.😢
That is a damn shame.
John Browning would be proud😊
Yes he would.
@4:50 she don't use the sights...

Would you be willing to hire me as your butler?
