PODCAST COMING SOON! anchor.fm/runningthroughmymind
what's up my beautiful people! I've done a few videos about the shoes I've worn to run in and some reviews but I've never talked about them all at once so here you go! Every single pair of running shoes I've run in since starting my run streak. I was missing one of them because I left them with a friend in Africa and one other pair I wore here and there in the beginning of my journey but these are the ones you guys have seen me in the most. We have a mix of nike, Adidas, and hoka. I can't wait to keep trying new shoes and I'm going to remind myself going forward - if I fall in love with a pair of shoes I better go buy another before it's discontinued.. haha! What's your shoe of choice for 3-8 miles?

I just want you to know that your positive energy is so radiant that I can feel it from the screen of my phone!!! Keep up the good videos! Love from Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷❤️
thank you so much! that means the world! much love
He’s a mighty force of good. A radiant light of hope that is much needed in this time.
I know you arent really supposed to put that many miles in a shoe but I really like that you squeeze every bit of use out of them. I think it shows you just genuinely love running more than gear. I love looking at beat up shoes for some reason, they are kind of a sense of pride for a runner.
You've definitely clocked up a few miles 😅💙
Just started running seriously this year, my first shoe was the Pegasus 36 and after 100 miles those shoes killed my knees and caused me to get runners knee. After recovery I switched to the hoka rincons and I’ve never felt better in a running shoe! I put in 200 miles in one pair and just got a new pair and I fell in love all over again with them. Would highly recommend them to anyone! I would like to try the Pegasus 37s though because I’ve heard good things about them👀
Shit I at least put 26 miles of running in my vans and they still are in good condition 🤣 never had a pair of actually running shoes
Yeey I just found your channel. You are such a cool and positive guy (:
I just started running and I love running without any pressure! Thank you for beeing such a positive influence 😊keeping the vibes good all around the world🤗💕
I love his energy!
Honestly, he 's one the best person on the Earth!!!! Keep it up bro, proud of you !!!! LET'S GET IT, LET'S GOOOOO!!!!!!
You and David Goggins book "Can't Hurt Me" got me more into running. I just started and used my old Onitsuka, then I got my hands on Adidas Response Trail Kolor. Not sure if that was for running but it was comfy so I used that for a while. Today, I just bought an Asics Nova Blast. First "proper" running shoes! I'm so excited to put some summer miles on it! Keep doing what you're doing sir! Thank you for the running videos and be safe out there! Cheers! 🥂
Been vegan for 5 years, so cool that I found your channel. I ran a marathon in 2017 and decided last week to train again for one but it’s in 7 weeks lol. Going to find some Nike shoes now! Been using ultra but want to try Nike. Thanks man!
Definitely display those shoes!!
I feel you on the lighter weight shoes and fewer injuries. When I feel bogged down during my runs, it makes going the emotional distance more challenging. When I began running everyday, part of my journey was along a very rocky uphill, rock paved small city, and grassland. I had these beautiful $200 runner shoes that helped considerably until they were stolen (I left them in an outdoor market). So then I invested in the best runner shoes available at the outdoor market. It was a no-name brand, waterproof, Yeezy looking shoe with mesh, only $10 or so. I added supplemental foot cushioning which made a world of difference. I found my runner's groove. Since then I've used shoes with more support, which is great, yet I definitely have noticed a difference in my running stamina.
Fun video. You and your girl have an inviting chemistry. Keeps us hopeful romantics encouraged lol Congrats on the podcast!
I had Clifton’s and had the same injury. I got rid of them and now I occasionally run in the rincons and they’re great. Part of it is strengthening your calves and lower legs
i've run in Clifton 6s' for a good bit. I do my regular long runs and sometimes a bit of tempo effort in them. The cushioning is definitely something that has helped me kept even mile pacing, but overtime I've had some ankle issues because of some turns. I wouldn't recommend them for the track, but road or trail they hit the mark well. Besides the turns, no real issues; just a cushion ride for an easy/moderate effort run over time
this is a sweet collection, awesome video!
hellahgood you inspire me all week, great inspiration !!!!!!!!!!!! from france !
Your the best hellah!
The achilles and calf pain when wearing the Hoka's could be due to the lower heel drop of the Clifton's (and many of Hoka's shoes). Even though the difference between a Nike only has a couple mm of higher heel drop, you'll definitely feel some extra work on your achilles.
Maybe... I now run in Altras (a zero drop shoe) and I used to run in Nike Epic Reacts (don’t remember the drop) and I tried a pair of Cliftons (heard so much good about them). I gave up on them as my legs didn’t agree with them. Honestly, they just felt large and clunky and the built in rocker just left everything not feeling natural at all.
@@khj697 the epic reacts have a 10 mm drop in case you still wanted to know
Hoka's are like running in sand
@@RowOfMushyTiT Honestly I think it's a matter of preference, i use the clifton 6's and I find them adequate for anything, 13 mile long runs or a 400 meter repeat session, but that might not be everyone

Thanks for the full shoe review video Hellah, that helps us out. Looks like you forgot one though: Nike Zoom All Out...
Love it Hellah!
Amazing Hellah really good video
Former collegiate soccer player as well. Saw your channel when I was on my own 100 days in a row journey (currently on day 820). I have had same issues as you I.
Regards to calf/Achilles pain, I have same issues. However I noticed the pain is coming when a shoe gets too many miles. I don’t buy shoes often and try to get 750 miles or so for each shoe. I try to use my more worn pairs on the shorter easy runs.
I have the exact same wear pattern on my shoes. Starting on the heel outside and rolling to the big toe. All the rubber and tread are warm down on the outside heel on each shoe. Almost looking brand new in other sections. Maybe take a look at those painful segments and think about what shoes you were running in.
Awesome video brother! God Bless You!
I feel like hellah would LOVE the brooks Hyperion tempo.
The first shoes I truly bought for just running was a pair of Nike Epic Reacts. I ran in them for about 600 miles. I’ve had a couple pairs of ON Cloudflows (great shoes but picks up rocks often which is kind of a pain). I went on to Altra Escalante Racers and love them (I’m currently on my 3rd and 4th pair). They tick all the boxes (comfort, breathable, lightweight, and locked in). I now try to change out shoes at about 350 miles. I believe keeping some fairly fresh shoes on my feet keeps my legs healthy.
My wide foot loves the Hoka Clifton’s and Rincon’s, no calf issues and helped with my Achilles issues due to the cushioning and early stage meta rocker.
Next fave are the Saucony Endorphin Speed’s and Hoka Carbon X’s.
Oddly enough, I had calf issues wearing Pegasus 35 & 36’s.
Will give the Pegasus 37 a shot, since Nike completely revamped the model.
Keep it up Hellah!
I’ve been using Cliftons for a few months and I love them
My favorite shoes are my Hoka Torrent 2s. I have some altra escalante racers on the way, and I think those will take the cake.
in the past I used to wear ON cloudflow for all of my runs when I first started out, however they started to become a little expensive and I got my first pair of pegasus in late 2018. I went through 7 pairs of pegs until late last year but found that when my coach was giving me speed work and interval sessions - the pegasus were not responsive enough for me, so I started to use them for my easy runs only.
Right now, my running shoe rotation is - ON cloudrush, Newton distance elite, Hoka - carbon rocket & nike zoomfly (the last 2 have a carbon plate). I would say that the Newton shoes give the best value for energy return when running - however, unless you have really strong and conditioned calve muscles, these are a once a week shoe. They have these weird raised lugs on the forefoot (a bit like cycle cleats) which alter the way you run. They literally propel you forward. I have a pair of adidas adizero and a pair of topoathletic zephyr running shoes due to arrive next week
Dude thats quite a collection!
Reebok Forever Floatride Energy 2.0 - the fit, the weight, the bounce. Great for everyday running.
Im only into my third pair of running shoes on my running journey and my favourites are my current air zoom winflo 6s
Damn I think you may be right with the Hokas been having Achilles problems and started using my novablasts more and wasn’t having the problem as much. It’s a shame I love my rincons
Estou correndo todos os dias, já estou correndo 81 dias. E você é minha inspiração para mim chegar 365 dias🇧🇷🇧🇷💪🔥
You have a lot of shoes.
Ive mainly used one pair, Altra one 2.5, and I've ran around 2 000km with them. I got myself some Altra Kayenta which I had to return in exchange for the Escalante racer aloha.
I alternate between Nike peg 37 and Luna sandals. I often get mild calf pain in a cushioned shoe but never in a flat sandal.
Im use no names shoes for running, and i want say to you, thank you for motivation, from Russia with love❤️🇷🇺
I Love "Vibrams" for running
I run in hoka rincon and dont have a problem. But I believe thats due me needing the support and shock absorbtion that hoka offers. When it comes to shoes tho, it is important to get shoes that prevent injury and are comfortable.
I actually have had some minor Achilles problems in my Hokas. Usually only lasts for a day, but I think that the cushioning and value makes up for the minor inconvenience that I get around once a month
I've been using the same Asics Gel-Kayano 19 for 7 years now 😱Looking for a new pair at the minute. The Kayanos served me well tho.
I just picked up the Nike Pegasus 37 shield, and Pegasus Trail 2, and Nike React ultimate those are the 3 shoes I picked up. I got injured wearing some adidas I will never wear a boost sneaker again. The Pegasus 35 shield is my favorite shoes of all time.
7:26 oh shit, I've also had kinda the same thought. I'm currently in the process of recovery for my knee injury. I've been not running since 2 months - seriously, it doesn't feel good :( The last shoes that I wore was Hoka Speedgoat 4. It does feel bouncy, but feels a lot of something going on on my feet. Then, as part of recovery, i started to walk and run a little using Altra Escalante, and my feet feels 'relief'. I wanna love Hoka, but i dunno, i feels something not right about it for me. Thanks for sharing it bro!
Pratomo Ardianto I hope you have a speedy recovery brother! God Bless!
@@michaelkeecho7589 thx! 🙏
Nice Video man💯👏🔥🔥
Great video!keep it up!
thank you!
I just bought some asics gel kayano 26 and used them for the first time yesterday! Huge difference from Nikes imo. The asics felt great
i just got the kayano 26 a few days ago too!
I have a pair of some bright green 4.0s! They really are great but I save them for the track bc of how thin the sole seems
I also have the Clifton 6, the best cushioning for me but the 5mm drop requires more effort and it does hurt my calf.
I have Brookes and hoka... Something always hurt in the hoka, but the same I loved the look. Brookes are my fav. My Nikes feel to flat to me.
I'm a bit of a heavier guy and I was recommended to use the Hoka Clifton's. I do really love the shoes but I have noticed calf and Achilles pain. I didn't know that it was the shoes, i figured it was just from being heavy and not stretching as well as I should. I also love the Nike Pegasus, but the sole isn't as comfy as the Hoka's.
I rotate shoes during my streak using 3-4 pairs weekly and some of days I use also Hoka, definitely not every day brand for me.
Interesting about the Hokas. I ran 3.4 miles in my Clifton 6 the other day and my shines and calves have been sore ever since. I usually run in the Turbo 2s but wanted to give the legs a break and run with more cushion. I believe you maybe right cause I’m still nursing my legs.
Hellah, try the hoka rincon, it’s very responsive and cushion like the pureboost
Last 6 months I am using Nike zoom winflo 6 and they are amazing, frankly I have only one pair as of now my next upgrade will be Nike Only may be some running shoe under 120$
I'm sure Al Howie's ghost is running with you somehow ;)
Nike air zoom elite 9 might be the one closest to your favorite shoes.
You must be very lucky to grab one pair those days but it is possible
Saucony Kinvara’s & Saucony ISO Freedom 2’s
Runner up: NB Beacon
I only run in 4 mm (low heel drop) shoes
Yeah the 2018 Free Run Flyknits are my favorite running shoe of all time. I have 4 pairs lmao
I went from nike peg (33-36) fanatic but i increased my mileage and I just didn’t like all the cushion especially around the heel and kept getting achilles pain so i got altra took a month to get used to but now ive had 7 pairs of different altra shoes. Usually 500 - 600 miles in a shoe
What a great guy 👌🏻👌🏻
my first pair of shows. I didn't know you had to have a limit on them for how many miles. I wore them for a whole year and the soles fell off of them and I had to superglue them back on. I have been running for 6 years and have of 70 pairs of sneakers.
Dude I've never had calf pain running until I bought the rincons I switched back to my pegasus turbos lol
Great video, My go to show is the cheat shoe
Hellah Good shoe museum - opening 2021
I saw another similar comment, I went from wearing Cliftons to wearing the Pegasus and it doesn’t matter what shoe, the heel to toe drop is very important. You going from a nike is a higher drop to a Hoka which is lower it changed how it uses your calf and Achilles muscles. I got injured from the same thing. Rotate the new shoes every other day for 2 weeks and the shoes should be fine. Hope this helps
I have one pair of 10mm, 2 5mm, and I just got some zero drop altras. Hopefully this rotation will make my legs strong in every way.
Hellah we need a latest running gear video!!
The hokas are for soft landing 90% of them, and if you want to get rid of the pinky toe rubbing you need to get a wide size they usually run narrow, and most likely the calf pain is probably from the lower heel drop, it's better for your calves because it makes your feet want to land on the midfoot and forefoot more which is the natural way of running, most people are used to higher drop shoes that baby your calves more, I prefer the slightly lower heel drop because higher drop shoes make my knees hurt
Time to hit Goodwill or just give them away directly. I usually just leave them in an area where transients live and there are gone in no time.
I can’t imagine the smell😂
if you go from high drop shoes (10) to mid-drop (5) you will have some initial differences. It always depends on how fast and how much you do in the new shoe.
Is there any way that when we are jogging breathing is better? or help to have more resistance?
When I started running I started with slippers 😂 then I switched to a 4$ pair of shoes ,I don't have money for a good pair of shoes 😔
You should try the New Balance 1080v10
Under Armour running shoes is my favorite
I literally have ankle sprain after running on the New Balance Zante Pursuit for about 50 km.. i found that the heel counter was so thin and flimsy and doesnt give me enough support.. but then the shoes are so light and have enough amount of cushioning which i love..... so then i google everything about ankle sprains and how to fix it.. to strengthen it.. 7 days later im done with it and feels much better.. stronger ankle.. and that is actually crazy how a pair of shoe could change the whole game
I love the Zante Pursuits! Fresh foam + lightweight = winning combo. Happy running.
The calf pain when wearing Hoka's could be because of lower drop, most Nike's have about 10mm while Hoka's have only 5mm drop. So your calf muscles have to work more to go forward, but you get used to it, and just get stronger :)
I run in zero drop 6km sandals xD

When I ran in Hoka Rincons I developed extreme pain in my left little toe. Even after 4 months of not running in Hokas any more and switched to shoes that do not aggravate my toe anymore I still have pain on the side tendon of my toe when it is touched in any way from the side. I am sad about that because I loved the lightweight Hokas. I might try saucony's next after I wear through the brook's adrenaline's that I have now
Luckily they don’t last long. They are fast, though.
You should check out some New Balance running shoes bro!
im on pegasus 35 for the last year but in august decided to get 5km per day so im now on 150km in august
I really wanted to like Hokas, I actually really like the way they look. Unfortunately, they hurt my feet and are not comfortable for my feet at least so I cannot wear them. I typically wear shoes that are more minimal like the Altra Escalante.
In a previous video, you recommended the Hoka Mach 4 as the best shoes of 2021, so I was surprised to not see them here. Where do they rank in your overall lineup, and do you see the same injury issues in them that you do in Cliftons?
Hey! This video was posted august 2020 and the one you saw recommending the Mach 4 was posted September 2021 so the Mach 4 weren’t out at this point. This video is just showing the shoes I had run in up to this point. The Mach 5 (the newest version) is my absolute favorite road running shoe for every day runners, beginner runners, and really any distance. I wouldn’t wear them for a longer distance race but for any training leading up I love them. Never had any issues in the Mach 4 or 5!
@@HellahGood Hey, thanks so much for the response. Don't know how I missed/confused the publishing date on the video - my bad. Thanks for clarifying :)
Currently running in the Mach 4 thanks to your recommendation, really enjoying them.
I had Under Armour Charge Rogue
you are the best motivator 👍👍💪😎✌
thank you!
For the algorithm 🤙🏾🤙🏾
you're the man!
Can wear almost any show without issues, but Hokas in recent years have given me the worst hot spots and blisters. I don’t feel like I’m getting much back from the high stack foam also, so I just pass now.
i keep all my old running shoes too... but idk why...
I wish i could run in thin shoes. I over pronate and have very high arches so i need stability and some cushion.
Altra, anything zero drop and spacious in the toes.
You really should give aasics or mizuno running shoes a shot
only 13 pairs of shoes thats amazing hellah. Dont they smell too much to keep the shoes?
haha thank you! they actually don't!
I want to do some ultramarathon running in the futer
I just started running a few days ago and was wondering if its normal to feel your heartbeat when you do runs. I've always had anxiety over my heart and well is it normal to feel or hear it after a jog? Will it be less noticeable after time? Please respond :(
You should be fine as long as your heartbeat is normal. Your just working your cardiovascular system in a way its not very used to and its pretty much just getting stronger. It will probably get less noticible if you run similar routes and paces every day but that’s because your getting stronger. I’m not an expert but those are my thoughts
Try Hoka Rincón
