This entire album was constantly in the cassette deck in my car (yes, its that old!). i ALSO LOVED "Nothing but the Best" from that album, and some of their older stuff like "Just the Way You like it."
Nice! I still have the cassette (yep, cassette) of this album too. S.O.S. is legendary on so many levels. Jam & Lewis did the dang thing with this group.
Same here, I still have the Original Lp on Cassette, I'd buy new Releases and Dubb onto a 90 Min Tape then Store Originals.

The track that launched them, was a beast of a tune, but it wasn't typical SOS band production by J&L so he wouldn't recognize that as SOS Band (suppose you could do a re-edit and throw in a few Tr--808 cow bells)

Yes, The SOS Band "Sands of Time" Lp, "The Finest, Sands of Time, Even when you Sleep & Borrowed Love" are great tunes off 1986 release. "As life goes on, you learn to Mingle. You learn to appreciate the Finer things in Life - The Finest." Thank You for giving this excellent Lp some ear. Other hits "Take your Time - 1980, Just be good to me & Tell me if you Care, - 1983, Thank you very much for "The Finest."
Just an off topic comment....we just lost Mary Wilson who was a member of one of the biggest music acts in history The Supremes....tho Diana Ross gets all the recognition Mary was co founder of this ICONIC group.....when legends like this leave us i think they deserve all the respect due to them.....i know you are too young to know about The Supremes but only The Beatles were bigger in the 60s....they inspired artists for decades after.....im hoping you react to some Supreme songs in Mary's memory.....R.I.P.

I Suggested to alot doing Reactions many tunes you played and found You Listened to the SOS Band a year before I asked you to hear the "Sands of Time" LP I'm glad you find the Nuggets & Gems while others doing Reactions are Sifting through the fine gold dust. LOL If you like Vocalists that can Project then "Fresh Air" by Quicksilver Messenger Service a Early 70s Bay Area Band will impress you, Yeah, Gino Valenti has Vocal Power to Project like Ann Wilson of Heart. He made alot of male Vocal Groups sound like women. Thanks for "The Finest." :)

Just jammin play more sos band they were a unique r b band in the 80 s so was loose ends so was r b artist alexander o neal there was so much unique talent r b bands r b singers just artists in general especially in the 80 s so much unique talent in music in the 80 s that carried over to the 90 s another decade of talent thank you for the content young man keep listening to the talents of the 80 90 s years past have a good one

I was a baby when this was done, but it was played all through the 80s that i still caught it on radio in the late 80s and early 90s. Music lasted longer back then. My uncles used to blast it in the Garden and stuff doing Saturday chores and stuff.
I had this on cassette tape for many years..I love this tune

An other great choice, man. Well, in fact, as a Brazilian guy, and in that age, I liked of the songs of SOS Band and other people, because of the rhythm than the meaning of the messages (difficulties about the English language), but this song (and other many songs) marked that era. They came out the box their first release was a super big 2 million plus selling single Take You Time (Do It Right) that was not produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. And did you hear Alexander O'Neal in the bridge?

Yeah S.O.S band have some great tracks. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis hooked them up and got fired from the Time by Prince when he found out. They used a lot of 808 drum machine on S.O.S. band album, which was being used heavily in rap/ hip hop at the time.
Take Your Time Do it Right is the next cut you should check out.

Just jammin young man im so glad you are listening to more sos band one of my personal favorite bands as a little kid growing up in the 80 s they were outstanding i heard there music all over the city i live in boston from neighborhoods in the summer cookouts people playing their music in boomboxes it was a great time growing up in the 80 s so many great artists so many great r b artists music was music sos band one of the greatest r b bands in the 80 s might be the best r b band in the 80 s thanks to the legends of jimmy jam and terry lewis .
Seeing SOS band live in the 80s was a high point for me. Sweet memories.
Its jj and terry lewis how could you not like. You need to react to ready for the world its up youre street sound wise. And the sos band were big in the black community only. Got shunned by the industry like so many of the time did. Sos band ran the clubs in the 80s but never hit the no1 spot.
I think the difference between today's production and that of the 60s thru the early 2000s is professional producers/production companies vs. artists who've learned or are learning how to produce and producers who don't have a lot of experience working with different artists and genres of music.
Prince begat The Time, The Time begat Jam and Lewis, Jam and Lewis begat the SOS Band, Al O’Neal, Janet Jackson (let’s face it) New Edition w/Johnny Gill, etc.
Jam and Lewis were Gods in their days! Ain`t nobody exept Prince could reach their Quality of Music during 80s/90s!
Appreciate you dropping these gems that may not get 200k views but man real music.

Has anyone mentioned "Just Be Good to Me" by the S.O.S. Band?
In late 1986, vocalist Mary Davis left The S.O.S. Band to pursue a solo career. The group continued with another vocalist but I feel the group lost that main ingredient and that was Mary. Staying true I bought Mary's first solo song after she left the group on 12" called - Don't Wear It Out. Should check it out.
