If Palpatine hadn't been around the Republic would have torn itself apart anyway, with no Imperial military to hold the rotting corpse together. By the end of Rise of Skywalker the galaxy has comprehensively rejected the New Republic, the First Order and all forms of interstellar government in favour of widespread isolationism.

Did Sideous use his Sith mind powers to sway the plans, or was all this done by sheer diplomacy and deceptive planning? Thanks.
