A great guitar, with a lot of rock and crazy sounds and not only. It, for me, the best guitar for the natural harmonics. It's very good the EVH for his style and sounds. Bye from Italy🇮🇹
I have always loved this shape, so much that I’ve built my own in 1995. I recently bought an axis music man on Reverb (blue one) and it’s a beautiful guitar!
My personal experience with Fender Wolfgang guitars: Purchased a "Special" (made in Mexico) and was impressed vs what I paid. Neck pocket was flat (no dodgy shims needed) and the neck/bridge was straight with the frets all solid and level. Setup well out of the box. Still own this one and like it. Went ahead and dumped $3k into an "American" Wolfgang from Wildwood (Good retailer) online. It shows up with loads of shims in the neck pocket AND under the Floyd nut. They had cut the bridge pickup too shallow, and instead of fixing that they just setup the guitar around that mess. Sent it back to Fender for "Repair" (during Covid). After a year of hearing nothing I contacted my Wildwood salesman and together we spent the next 8 months fighting back and forth with Fender. First they said they would give me another guitar, but could not promise there would be no shims! A Modern American made guitar and you can't promise no shims!?! In the end they refused to send me a properly made/setup guitar and instead only offered to refund me the retail price. Two years and nothing to show for it. If you find one in a local shop, and it's built well aka not a bunch of shims and other crap that should not be on a premium guitar, go ahead. Otherwise, I'd stay clear of Fender Corona for the most part. Overall the Mexican Fenders/Wolfgangs are a much better buy for the money. I own 4x Mexican Fender guitars and every one was made and setup with at least as much attention to detail as factory Corona, if not way more. It's the odd guitar from the Mexico factory that is bad. It's the odd guitar from Corona factory that's actually good. Costs considered it's a no brainer imo. American Fenders will let you down more often than not. Custom shop aside that is. If you're willing to pay $6-$10k for a guitar, then they can manage to make one without shims being needed... My 2c
I agree with you 100%. There was a time when "made in America" meant something, but these days Fenders and Gibsons made in USA don´t mean crap to me and specially at the ridiculous high prices they are selling their guitars. Made in Mexico and Indonesian guitars are being made with some amazing details. I am not a millionaire but a working man which wants to buy good quality at a fair price. I bought my EVH-Special Black Stealth for 800 euros (dollars) and its Made in Mexico. Perfect playing guitar , well built, and I enjoy it so much I will buy another EVH next. This time I might try a Standard version for the reasonable price of 450-500 euros just because it comes with a different unique paint job.
Yeah, you're NOT a guitar manufacturer. Remind yourself. The public IS sick of hearing the public talk absolute crap. Why do we want to hear 1 more s head from the public again???
I had a Peavey Wolfgang and and Ernie Ball Axis and sold them regrettably. I ordered the purple sparkle special and should get it tomorrow. Can’t wait. Oh and do a lesson on “Humans Being.”
Any player who says a guitar's looks don't matter is fooling themselves. Jeremy Clarkson famously said about cars that cost, features, horsepower, performance, etc. all of it boils down to one thing above all else: how the car makes you feel when you drive it. If a guitar's looks can change the way you feel when playing it, then its looks matter. You can't understate the effect of inspiration.
As someone who’s played Wolfgang’s for many years and just recently got an axis. I can say the Axis is better for certain things… pickups are not as hot and only having one volume pot makes it feel more EVH authentic. Not the biggest fan of the where the pickup switch is. But I think it’s worth every penny I play my axis more than my Wolfgang’s now. For what it’s worth anyone who is capable of getting an axis I would reccomend it
Congrats dude. I have the Special in black stealth (MiM) and it is an amazing guitar. Very versatile for all types of music , not just "metal shredding" ! Either the Special or the Standards are top quality guitars for the prices. I would NOT trade it for any Gibson or Fender, not even Premium PRS or Ibanez.
You picked right. That's the exact guitar I purchased a few years ago when I was looking into getting a Van Halen style. The only difference is the red tone on mine has a fade to it instead of being evenly distributed. I never regretted buying the guitar,I always feel good when I pick it up to play. I traded it in once on a Schecter guitar, but the next time I went in the store and saw it, I picked it up for a little trip down memory lane and ended up buying it back!!! Lol. Would love to see your guitar collection, definitely would love to see what you own and why.
Wolfgang Specials are made in Mexico my friend :) the cheaper ones are made in Indonesia. And I tried both at store a couple of years ago, both are good guitars for their price. The special has better quality parts, that is for sure, but the pickups sounded the same. And I always thinked the Wolfgang guitars have one of the mos awful looks but after playing them I decided to buy one, so comfortable and using the blocked FR instead of the floating was something I appreciate more lately. I not a fan of the pickups to be honest but it is a quite usable tone, I am planning on changing pickups.
I had the privilege of buying an amber EBMM EVH the first year they came out. Seven years later, when I was married with two kids, the HVAC went out as winter began. I chose to sell it to pay for the new system. It was a painful decision, but the right one, at the time. I can't afford the high prices on the EBMM or the Peavey models, and this is the model I'm looking at to for the same reasons you mentioned. I'm pulling the trigger based on your review.
I bought one just like this about 18 months ago with the intention for it to be a fun backup... after about 5 months I picked up a 2010 MIJ Standard... a few month after that I sold a couple of PRS Core models and got an American Signature and an Peavey HP2. The body shape has now become my preferred shape after 40 years of playing. To be it's the perfect blend of an LP and Strat IMHO. It definitely sits different than either of the previous mentions.
Yeah, the Wolfgang shape is a little jarring to the eye. But it's so damn ergonomic to hold and play! plus it's not a million miles away from most standard body shapes
As someone who grew up in the 80's I had to have the musicman in amber as i wanted it when it was launched but couldn't afford it then. I also have a USA peavey, an Indonesia EVH Standard and a USA signature EVH wolfgang. All fantastic, the EVH standard is a very good guitar, nice contours, light and nice to play. The musicman is the holy grail but I enjoy the Peavey standard as much to play. Its solid and better built. For me, the USA EVH signature cost a ton of money and isn't any better really than the Mexican specials I've owned (3 in total). Just my take on it.
I felt the same way about the Wolfgang for a long time. I thought it was just plain ugly….until I came across a striped Wolfgang. I fell in love with it. I’m now a big fan.
I had a 1997 MM, it was modified heavily though but the neck was great. I wanter to buy a new one recently but the prices are crazy in this economy. I remember them being in the 2k EUR price range now they’re over 3k.
I have all 3. Two EBMM EVH’s one in quilted purple that has faded so much it looks like quilted gray pinkish and a tobacco burst. Two Peavey’s very early models Black& Gold Top One fender EVH Wolfgang USA stealth grey. If I could only have one, I like the peavey the most and it’s 100% personal preference . Just feels better in my hands. All are great guitars though
I was lucky enough to pickup a brand new Musicman Axis for €1900 on sale a couple of years ago. The build quality is noticeable higher than the Peaveys or the EVH, but they are insanely expensive these days
I just bought a EVH Wolfgang Special QM, Baked Maple Fingerboard, Purple Burst. I have previously owned an Axis & a Peavey Wolfgang. I'm sure someone will disagree, but for just over £1000 GBP, this guitar sounds & feels equally as good. I learnt a long time ago that made in Mexico means nothing negative these days. It's not a second class guitar compared to USA made. A renowned USA luthier actually told me that, and I can see & hear it for myself. In terms of finish, the finish on this special QM is excellent. As I say, I'm sure someone will disagree, but I can only speak as I find. Well recommended!
A) I’m going to dob to my wife that you have 17 guitars! B) I have a Kramer ‘The 84’ in matt white for my EVH dabbles. I fitted a drop D tuner , Eb etc. It’s pretty good, has a quite ringy and zingy acoustic tone.
What I like about the Kramer The 84 is the feel of the non recessed Floyd, with the strings sitting up nice and high off the body, which is easy to palm mute etc.
Hi Tom! I’ve had a few Wolfgangs last couple of years. I had a Tobacco burst EVH USA model(carved top) which was amazing but always had issues with my arm. So I sold it 😭( That’s why I don’t like les pauls with carved tops) I had a Golden Peavey Special Wolfgang USA which had a bit rounder edges on the body. But quality wise it was not nearly as good as the USA made EVH. The neck was really nice though. But I sold it too. Then I bought a couple of standard cheapest EVH Wolfgangs ( a quick silver and a purple burst one) with the roasted maple necks. Which I really liked the feel of, cause these have a proper armrest like a strat. But didn’t like it quality wise either, especially the trem and pick ups so sold them too. Then a came across a beautiful used EVH special Japan 2010 tobacco sunburst with the most beautiful quilted maple top I’ve seen so far on a EVH. So I had to have it, it has all the whistles and bells like the USA made ones,( SS medium frets, birds eye maple fretboard etc.)but with a flat top. Although I would always prefer a proper armrest, this one is the best compromise version for me👌🙏 For me this is one of the best EVH’s I ever played. Really comfortable neck, round fretboard. And perfect SS medium frets. I know the USA models are the most sought after. But for me the Japanese ones are just as good. Anyone in the race for a Wolfie should check out the Japan ones too, they are killer! Keep up the good work Tom, you are an amazing teacher and player! Thanks for helping my inner Eddie and Yngwie getting better 😉👊🙏🤘🎸🔥
I have that exact guitar . Freaking love it! I also have 2 evh, bumble bee and Frankie. I love them all, wolfgang is easier to play though. Fretboard length or radius is a smidgen smaller and has different feel with the modified-C.
I remember back when Carnal came out I read in a guitar magazine where EVH said ‘Judgement Day’ was the first track they recorded and he actually used the 5150 Kramer on that song. Anyone else remember that?
Love the guitar and the color. I currently have three EVH guitars: a Wolfgang Special in a royal blue sparkle with a maple neck and fretboard (no longer available unless on the used market), a Wolfgang Standard in a cherry burst with a quilted maple veneer, also no longer available, and finally the Frankenstrat replica. I love all of them and enjoy playing all of them, but it's reasonably obvious that the Special and the Standard have different build qualities. I struggle with which one I want to buy next. There are two I want badly, the stripped 5150 or the Purple quilted maple Wolfgang. Purple is my favorite color, and there are at least three guitars that are some variation of purple. I will probably go with the one that will be hardest to find after a few years. As I see it that would be the Quilted Maple Wolfgang Special that is purple. I'm also looking to buy the new purple semi-hollow body guitar after I've acquired other guitars higher on my list. I currently have 10 guitars, two are basses and I have a couple of Fender Squire Telecaster styles with one being a baritone. My basses are upgraded Squire Jazz Basses. EVH is supposed to be coming out with some basses, but as of yet, no official announcement. I also recently bought an Epiphone Les Paul Alex Lifeson Signature. My wife keeps asking when I'm gong to be done buying guitars. I told her never, because you can never have enough guitars!
Have the US Signature, Mex Special & Standard Wolfgangs. US model definitely a step up…others good too. Tried the MIJ signature in a local shop, but didn’t feel as nice as US I had. Wish I could play like you. Love the look on your Wolfgang. It does remind me of the 90s Axis w/o the $$$. If you want something a little bit different try the EVH-SA126, I’ve really enjoyed mine.
I have a 80 strat that I made a Frankenstein . Did like Eddie in a way, I also have a Player series strat. I swapped out the trem for a OEM Floyd it's much better.
Like you in the beginning I was not found of the body style. It grew on me. And 2 weeks ago had sale on the standard, stealth black..picked it up figured I can resell for what I paid easily if I didn’t like it. I was surprised how much I like it. Might upgrade the Floyd, not sure yet. Or get special. I ve been converted, won’t be my main, but love the pickups and overall feel of the necks.
Awesome guitar Tom, really gorgeous. I myself had an EBMM Axis back in the day, a '96 in purple, sadly I sold it a few years ago and I always regret it, enjoy the Wolfgang :)
This guy RULES!!!! Great attitude, Great personality AND THE BEST FREAKING GUITAR TEACHER EVER!!! INSANE SKILLZ!!! LOVE the new axe bro, the color is PERFECT!!!! I love the color and style, it's perfect!! "Mrs. Shreds" LOL - hahaha Awesome!! Congrats on your New Axe Tom, it looks at sounds great!!
A new Wolfgang standard Tahiti nights. The Indonesian quality control sucks! I had to do a ton of stuff to get it the way I want it. I’m still not there. I’ve set up a bunch that had the same issues.
Beautiful guitar! You have such a nice collection going already. So here's my two questions. How many guitars do you own? And second, how do you convince the Mrs. to get more guitars?
I want an Axis like Eddie's, and I've had the same dilemma as you, except I cannot accept the pointy headstock of the Wolfgang. Has to be the MusicMan for me, but at that price... It'll be a marriage gift or something. Or 50th birthday or something
How do u find the neck on the Wolfgang I have a evh frankie and heard the Wolfgang neck is not as wide as the Frankie and a bit in the slim side I’m not near a store to try one is the neck similar to the Frankie feedback would be great
did you have any trouble with the pickup selector switch? mine was garbage and ended up being replaced with a switchcraft one and now the guitar is perfect! (i have the same colour as yours too btw, love it!)
Happy new axe day man! Killer guitar. Definitely check out the USA models, they are beyond good! I myself have a USA stealth that will probably never leave my collection 😂
@@TomShreds It's true he played the destroyer later. However, I went to see Van Halen 1980 Norte Dame acc south bend Indiana..Eddie played a gibson explorer, my girlfriend and I were front stage the pickups looked like dimarzios.. I know for absolutely sure, it was a gibson explorer, because I owned a 1976 explorer at the time. But he also played other guitars that night..
Yes please, I'd love to see the entire collection and the thinking behind the choices
Eddie Van Halen Memorial Guitar ★ Eddie Van Halen Forever R.I.P EVH
The orange is surprisingly lovely. Great choice! I have the Miami Blue Wolfgang special and it's my favorite guitar ever.
I also have the miami blue here in the UK, dont see many of them around so I'm rockin mine weekly in my covers band 😎
It's very distinctive and always gets a lot of admiration. Unlike my playing 😅😅
Hey Shredders! For Line 6 Helix Presets & more, head to tomshreds.mykajabi.com/
Beautiful instrument! I hope it serves you for many years without any issues! Congrats on the new guitar!
Beautiful Wolfgang!
I love the Wolfgang shape and how it feels. Looking forward to seeing more of this in future videos .
Enjoy the new guitar Tom!
I got a trans blue Music Man EVH new in 93. 31 years with me and it still plays and sounds amazing
Hi Tom!!! Congratulations!!! It looks and sounds great! I would love to have one of those!
I have a EVH Standard Wolf, a 78 Eruption and the USA Edward Van Halen Signature Ivory. They are extraordinary
Never been a fan of the shape of these, but you picked a very nice color. Looks very warm and pleasing in the video.
I dunno if I would have voted for this color if I had see the poll, but it looks really good in person!
Absolutely Beautiful! I really think I need one too!
Congratulations, love the color, and the tone!
I’ve seen the grooves under the d tunas on the new Wolfgang’s but they aren’t on the 5150 models yet at least not mine
That Guitar you hold, in that Colour is my dream guitar being an EVH Fan, good going mate, nice purchase, keep them video's coming. Cheers.
My personal experience with Fender Wolfgang guitars:
Purchased a "Special" (made in Mexico) and was impressed vs what I paid.

Yeah, you're NOT a guitar manufacturer.
Remind yourself.
The public IS sick of hearing the public talk absolute crap.
Why do we want to hear 1 more s head from the public again???
Love that colour myself! Would love to see the rest of the collection!
I just bought one of these in stealth black! It is a dream come true, absolute tone beast.
Looks lovely mate, congratulations.
I had a Peavey Wolfgang and and Ernie Ball Axis and sold them regrettably. I ordered the purple sparkle special and should get it tomorrow. Can’t wait. Oh and do a lesson on “Humans Being.”
I don't have any EVHs but I do have a Jackson that's similar color to your Wolfgang. Solar and sea foam are my favorite colorways of Wolfgang

Such a cool guitar. I'm always looking for new instruments and I've never played an EVH before

I live the color of your guitar. Its awesome. I was looking for the same one. Its hard to find
Fun! Looks like you got a really pretty top as well, congrats!!
I have this same guitar, in Solar. Great Guitar indeed.
I have all 3. Two EBMM EVH’s one in quilted purple that has faded so much it looks like quilted gray pinkish and a tobacco burst.
Two Peavey’s very early models
Black& Gold Top
One fender EVH Wolfgang USA stealth grey.
If I could only have one, I like the peavey the most and it’s 100% personal preference . Just feels better in my hands. All are great guitars though
This guitar is a dream ♥️🎸😎
Great choice, I love the aesthetics that guitar!!!
Beautiful Tom, congrats mate!
I was lucky enough to pickup a brand new Musicman Axis for €1900 on sale a couple of years ago. The build quality is noticeable higher than the Peaveys or the EVH, but they are insanely expensive these days
EXCELLENT...I got one of these, too!
I just bought a EVH Wolfgang Special QM, Baked Maple Fingerboard, Purple Burst. I have previously owned an Axis & a Peavey Wolfgang. What happened to the Purple flame Wolfgang you played in the VH melody video?
I have that exact guitar
. Freaking love it! I also have 2 evh, bumble bee and Frankie. I love them all, wolfgang is easier to play though. Fretboard length or radius is a smidgen smaller and has different feel with the modified-C.

I am always up for a guitar collection video interspersed with short playing clips
Wow it's so beautiful.
Good choice Tom, you’re a man after my own heart. Now get back to making a trillion EVH videos ❤️🎸🎊
Judgement day... The guitar in that song ROCKS
Nice man
Awesome guitar! Congratulations!
Looking forward to your vid on price difference vs quality difference. You know whereof you speak.
Nice! So glad it’s not the purple one😂
MIJ Wolfgang is insane goooood
I have Mexico wolf as well
So, from all you're saying... I guess we're getting an EVH Shred Secrets soon?
Loving your Swedish Shred Secrets course...Any possibilities of a Van Halen course???
Cheers mate! Keep your eyes peeled 😎
And look it’s already plugged in….😂 classic Tom
Gorgeous axe
A new Wolfgang standard Tahiti nights. The Indonesian quality control sucks! I had to do a ton of stuff to get it the way I want it. I’m still not there. I’ve set up a bunch that had the same issues.
Beautiful guitar! You have such a nice collection going already. So here's my two questions. How many guitars do you own? And second, how do you convince the Mrs. to get more guitars?
You may try the art Charvel series. Just in case you want to be back to baisics😊
Wolfgang neck profile all day!
Great guitar , great colour 😁 get a trem setter on it 👌
I want an Axis like Eddie's, and I've had the same dilemma as you, except I cannot accept the pointy headstock of the Wolfgang.
Has to be the MusicMan for me, but at that price... It'll be a marriage gift or something. Or 50th birthday or something
How do u find the neck on the Wolfgang I have a evh frankie and heard the Wolfgang neck is not as wide as the Frankie and a bit in the slim side I’m not near a store to try one is the neck similar to the Frankie feedback would be great
Great looking guitar. 👌Just needs an aged cream switch tip !
I love my evh GUITAR!
Sweet!
you should build your own frankie
did you have any trouble with the pickup selector switch? mine was garbage and ended up being replaced with a switchcraft one and now the guitar is perfect! (i have the same colour as yours too btw, love it!)
Sorry to hear dude! No issues here luckily, so far 🤞
Im guessing the incoming project is a Van Halen course in the same vain as Shred Secrets
Are you done with the Yngwie stuff? I was hopin for a bigfoot rhythm tutorial. Is it on the shred secrets course?
The pickup switch is backwards up is the bridge
Down is neck
Idk why? I
Turned mine
I love it👏❤
Happy new axe day man! Killer guitar. Definitely check out the USA models, they are beyond good! I myself have a USA stealth that will probably never leave my collection 😂
How does one use your Van Halen preset packs?
Great Guitar!!!! Eres un maestro!!!
cool wolfgang Guitar❤❤
Few people know Eddie played a gibson explorer on his first album ..
Indeed. BUT I believe it was an Ibanez Destroyer, that later became the shark guitar. One day I’ll add one to the collection!

It's true he played the destroyer later.
