It's crazy because she's been in the industry for almost a decade but you can still see her improvements after every performance of her.
Literally, we've heard her sing Love on Top before, and every time she sounds better. Same thing with Killing Voice, in most of the songs Wendy's voice actually sounded better and much more seasoned than in the original album tracks. How many idols can say they sound way better live than in their studio recordings? Probably less than five, and Wendy is for sure one of them.

Your comment reminds me of her in the studio recording When This Rain Stops. I actually thought she sounded better there than the finished version, which she sounds incredible on. She kept wanting to correct some issues she heard, but the pd was like no, that was perfect 😂😂😂
I also heard no issues bit to her she could do better than what was already phenomenal. That's why she keeps improving because she's a perfectionist and keeps practicing her craft.

One thing about Wendy that I love the most is her expressions when singing... you can see how happy she is when singing. Not pressured, not stressed just the love of singing. When she sings Love on Top, I smile the whole time looking at how happy she's singing it... it's kinda contagious.

Wendy's vocal runs and belting in this comeback have skyrocketed in precision, resonance, and agility. I really think she has gotten a "vocal glow-up" after Rebecca similar to Solar's after Mata Hari. Musical Theater and Pop have similar vocal techniques, but (in my opinion) there is better vocal training for Musical Theater than for Pop music (or maybe it has been standardized better?).

Lol the Duet was interesting to say the least. Wendy is like this roaring fire, she cuts through a song so clearly. Mujins got this smooth tone and I think at times they couldn't match each others energy. It was still interesting to see how they kept adapting in the middle of the song to try to match.

The thing about Wendy as a Duet partner is that she's such a blessing for male vocalists or any vocal partner ! Like, she takes immense care to not overpower the vocals on them and give a balanced performance. The best example would be duet of Chanyeol & Wendy singing 'stay with me' in SMTOWN 2017 performance. He's a deep tone rapper-cum-vocalist and you could see he appreciated it so much :)

i’m honestly surprised to see very few people mentioning how much wendy has improved with this comeback. her voice sounds so much more fuller, stable, and consistent, and i believe that has to do with her performance in the musical Rebecca! i bet she had to take a different approach to her singing in order to have the chops for a stage musical… as talented as wendy is, i’ve always noted her lack of resonance… but with this comeback, i can hear it more clearly than ever. it makes me so happy to see wendy mastering her instrument :-)
also, thank YOU, Katriinka for your wonderful analysis :-)!! it’s really enjoyable to see a skillful person appreciate another skillful person’s craft! and, to also put it in a digestible/educational format so that some viewers can learn from this is something i appreciate a lot :-)
Wendy's vocal/voice coach in Rebecca is different from the vocal coach that she deals with at SM Entertainment. The theater vocal coach deconstructed her and built her back up from scratch using classical music techniques. She also transformed her into an endurance singer so now she can sing for hours without getting tired. Even in the Killing Voice performance you can tell she can still go for more because her voice is not tired at all and i think she didn't break a sweat at all. With that said i also felt like she is much better than Taeyeon and IU right now at her current state.
Hey i noticed and thought the same thing too, she's at her prime! Good on SM for letting Wendy develop her skill and talent even more. Like they said, it took some time but she finally found her "voice" (technique, projection and consistency,...)

Wendy is the best current k-pop vocalist in an active band. She's passionate and committed. She's a self-made woman. She's also one of the best vocalists of any generation, along with SNSD Taeyon, F(x) Luna and The Grace Lina. I recommend you take a look at the latter two artists too.

I just can't get over Wendy's voice, gorgeous face and bright smile and her huge charisma. I just realized that Wendy is indeed the best vocalist of 3rd and 4th generations so far. No buts and if. She is a genius and an all rounded artist. She can do the hardest part of singing and make it look/sound easy that's why it is pleasing to the ears. Red velvet was one of the first groups I discovered, nd on hearing Wendy, I was so much mesmerized that I felt the urge to discover the vocal heavy groups of Kpop, leading me to EXO and Mamamoo.These 3 groups, simply chef's kiss❤.

There are a lot of good vocalists in kpop. I often say the others take you on a ferris wheel vocally, but with Wendy she takes you on a roller-coaster. You never know which direction those vocals will go or what note will come out of her or tone of voice she will use.
To this day I don't know how Wendy can do a 3 second high note and make me lose my sh#t!

Have you ever heard Wendy's song called What If Love? It is from the kdrama Touch Your Heart. I would love to hear you react to it. The video features the amazing actors from the drama, but Wendy's voice is so impactful. Whenever they played the song in the drama, I literally was floored by her vocals.

Wendy actually has some great solo songs outside of Like Water. Some of them she channels the legends like Whitney, Mariah, and Celine.
She does amazing with slowly building to the climax of a song. Her lower register is phenomenal and then when she does belt, it's just icing on the cake.
I think you would love her cover of Halo too. She was in high school and had a powerful voice back then. She sings much healthier now, but man, the power she had when she was younger floored me.
I really love your analysis of Wendy's vocals. You touch on things I've said about Wendy that not all kpop fans understand, but growing up on R&B since the 70's I feel so connected to Wendy. She reminds me of singers of the past thar I grew up listening to and hope one day she delves more into R&B/Soul with her next releases.

I have question. Does it make a different when you sit while singing compared to standing? Is harder while sitting?

Not a pro here, but yes. Not necessarily in a way that it'd become difficult, but it could be challenging. Singing is an art of breathing, by sitting down, you're limiting the lungs and diaphragm to fully expand and relax as well as restricting the airflow, which could affect in shortening your breath. As a result, your ability to support might not be as good as when you're singing in a good standing posture, and your support plays a big part in overall quality of your voice such as tone, resonance, and projection.
Nevertheless, a capable vocalist should pretty much able to overcome this and singing in any position. If singing while sitting is troubling for them, they probably still lacking in basic techniques such as support to begin with.
