I didn’t think this would be a good video, but the optical fibre trick definitely was a stroke of genius.
Great video.
i also did this same project but i set mine to 9.6v to maintain the voltage hold the multimeter when the lipo goes low voltage. by the way love your technique with the optical fiber, now i would try that.
9.5V is brand new 9V battery
This is dope. I think id just but a rechargeable battery at this point though for the amount of work it takes lol
thanks for the idea, i did this without the fiber optic and the switch! i would like to note that its very important for the 9V battery to have a plastic casing. mine had an aluminium casing and it was very difficult to work with.
so yea for the people who are looking to do the same mod just get a battery with plastic casing..

Without the switch does it mean that the battery is always on? Is self-drain noticeable?
@@ytfanlingeric yup it is actually. I would suggest you add that switch IF you are going to use the battery occasionally. If its going to be used constantly then prob switch wouldnt matter that much

Bro, what kind of glue used for fiber optic over led indicators?
what kind of camera do you use for your vlog?
such batteries should be created in series is a really good idea
I seen this times ,still i don't get bored!...
Great execution ...I loved the optical fibre part !!!

Good, thank you. You can use only two li-ion battery. You must be use white tape for fiber optic.
Pls note that 9v step up converter doesn't support over discharge protection. You'll destroy you're lipo if you're not checking voltage regularly.
2:25 his lipo seems to have a built in battery protection board....
@@Makoto778 almost every lithium batteries has it, but it still damages battery to overdischarge them.
I have been making similar battery recently with protection board and voltage meter with 3d printed case. And I know that battery won't last long since step up consumes energy even without load. That's probably why he installed switch to it. But for most 9v battery applications it's pretty useless since it drains itself empty in few months.
Using a step-up converter has some disadvantages (with low currents, self discharging, capacity at all). Most of the 9V Li-Ion blocks, which you can buy, are using 2s, also not ideal (voltage was to low), but slightly better for low current and log term usage (which is the typical usage for remote control or measurement equipment).
Thank you
Optical fiber trick was pretty ingenious 👍👍👍
ok, it's rechargeable, but how long does the battery last? I don't think that Li-po is gonna have the milliamp hour capacity to power anything for long.
it'd probably last longer than a regular 9 volt battery. those things last like no time at all under even a small load.
Great idea, but I think the "Battery" wont last very long if the device isn´t in use for a longer time, because the intecrated circuitboard will use little energy even when not in use, and taking it out everytime to switch it off isn´t very usefull. A better way will be using the good old Ni-MH rechargeable batteries.
you are right
Battery my 9v a
Will the charger stop charging and shut down when the 9V battery is charged? Or, will it keep charging and burn up the battery.
Its doesnt matter the litium battery itself doesnt effect when its still charging.. No need for it to stop..
I always knew this guy was a genius, I wish you have a great future 😊
Thank you
@@KJDOT you're most welcome ☺️
the module have low voltage protection ??
Dmn! Very clever idea! Also with the optical fiber for the LED... Thumbs up!!!

Я такую батарейку для мультиметру сделал сам по схеме из журнала Радио за 2017 год номер 1.
Excellent one to do. Show this idea to Duracell is a must. Way to go!
Very good project i make a 9v power bank for internet router with this trick.... Thank you
be careful the circuit used has the defect that I described in my answer: it has no protection against over discharge. So the battery will be damaged quickly also thanks to the step-up circuit that will not show the battery drop outside.
A real shame and a serious distraction from those who made the article
Fantastic video, I also made one
Great
929/5000
the video is very well-made and clear.
But may be serious problem with this project.
In practice inside the battery there is a step-up and this is what allowing to have 9 real volts, while the batteries with two li-ion elements have only 7.2V. These i great but it should have 3 defects and the third is dangerous:
1- the space dedicated to the battery is greatly reduced and therefore also the capacity. If the 102535 battery is 800mAh, the 9 volt virtual battery will have this value divided by 2.5 (which is the ratio between 3.7v and 9v) and decreased by the efficiency of the step-up converter: let's say about 350mAh. However 1, 5 times the best Ni-Mh batteries which however are 8.4 v and not 9. This is not the major problem
2 - if I have not misunderstood the switch is used to turn on/off the connection of battery and so the converter. So if we don't use our equipment it will be better to open it and turn off the converter which even if it consumes little but in a month would drain the battery without having used the tool at all. This for instruments where the battery is housed with a screw lock can be very inconvenient
3 - Do you know that there is "No over-discharge protection " in the circuit that you have used? do tou have an idea of what can happen?? I do not think so.
The user of your project has no way of understanding when the lithium battery is running out also because the step-up continues to maintain the external voltage at 9 volts by completely discharging the lithium battery.
Do you know what happens by discharging the lithium battery completely? in the best case you destroy the battery, in the worst case it can also catch fire.
Excellent!! I'm doing a little project about it, i think it is very important to automatic switch on and off, i used to just connect battery to MT3608 boost converter, but is only can last about one week then just run out of battery, it suck. In my design, it will automatic switch on and off by pull MT3608's enable pin high or low depend on if it connect to load or not, but it don't work and make me so confused... I'm not a English speaker, i have no idea about what is the name of this " automatic switch " is correct or it had other name and the circuit diagram, if you can help me about it then I will so thankful, i hope my poor English can make you know what i talking about, and have a nice day!!
Nice work bro!! but the boost circuit on the module will damage your battery without a low voltage protection board. The module drains battery to 0.9v
Actually the battery has a protection circuit board that cut at 2.8v and prevents from short circuit
true
So it’s perfect
I'm affraid the battery 102535 ( 10x25x35 mm.) that you state in the list of needed materials does NOT FIT togheter with the step up boost and the switch into the standard 9 volt battery case. This jeopardises all your fantastic work !
Great video, where did you get the screw driver? LOL I cant find a 9v plastic case anywhere. My wife is ready to kill me stripping all the 9v batteries from the casings LOL
HAHAHAHAHA
If you don't remove the battery and turn it off will the circuit board not drain the battery fast?
No, the board quiescent current is about 0.5ma
This kind module will drain battery dry in a week! Personally i'm using two lipo cellphone batteries in series, so my multimeter can run for a year on a single charge.
use a battery that holds more charge in then
me too,2 lipo cells fully charged are 8.7v, close to 9v since my multimeter work from 9.5 to 7v
@@dcd11mc60 That's not his point. Boost converter modules will draw power when powered on, even under a no load situation.
@@HobkinBoi +++
DC-DC modules draw significant power even when there is no load.
If you actually checked the module specs, you would know that it states _Quiescent current: about 0.5 mA_ .
With a 500mA battery, that's 1000 hours or about 40 days.
Sir why used you plastic whire in video end and tep please reply sir please
Can u find an alternative for the fibre optic can u replace it with an led
Fiber optic is the easiest way to do it and it's reliable.
I hope they put it on the market
Nice brother ..good concept ...keep doing ...nice work
Thank you
That's a good project instead of disposing used up batteries, you make them reusable by modding it
You have to dispose the toxic alkaline contects inside anyway plus i think he bought the case
That's a pretty neat idea, I wasn't aware of this module until now. Thanks for sharing!

@@carsonmcnamer5321 и не только в 1 и в магазин с дочей
How much time we should charge the battery
this will eliminate my annoying smoke detectors.
no it will be worse, a smoke detector battery is a single use lithium (it should be) this is running its dc-dc converter all the time, the single use lithium will work for 10 years, this will run about a week (it uses 15ma standby)
Good point. I wonder if there's a way to trick my smoke detectors into thinking there's a full charged battery, even if it's a safety risk
@@jusb1066 - IT DOES NOT USE 15mA Standby FFS read the specs properly.
However I agree it's a dmb idea to use this in a Smoke Alarm.

Useful for testing....but cannot be used in the long term, it drains quickly...consumption of 5mA from the elevator module.
This is a great idea, thanks for sharing! Question: if the switch is on but no load (i.e. multimeter or whatever is off), will the battery still discharge?
Yes, it will discharge, somewhen
@@dominikworkshop6007 thank you!
NICE
Good job. It's hard/difficult to do so. Buying one from the store near my home may be justified.
Why have you add optical fiber
While this is a brilliant idea, you wouldn't want to use this battery in something like a mult-meter or somethign that's screwed shut because the boost converter circuit will drain the battery quickly if left on but to shut it off you'd be screwing and unscrewing the back panel constantly.
Like what I was saying 🤣🤣
Very nice project 👍
Thank you
You linked to a high discharge lipoly battery. I would reccomend a liion, because liion's are more energy dense tha lipoly.
Koi ye bata sakta hai ke jis se ye battery cut kar raha hai wo kia cheeze hai
The current absorbed in standby by this board is too high (15mA), turning off the switch every time is very uncomfortable
So is reading your whining comment. :-)
@@taunteratwill1787 He DOES have a point.
@@markleng67 Just 'taunting' :-)
Static current is about 0.5ma
@@KJDOT
It depends on the battery voltage(the lower it is, the higher the quiescent current) but it's too high 0.5mA, in 1-2 months the battery is flat.
It is more convenient to use two identical batteries in series of smaller capacity without boost converter.
Your idea is very good but not easily usable every day.

yes, but, no overdischarge protection. based on mt3608, it stops at 1.98v which is not healthy for a lithium battery.

Good idea but Li ion/LiPo without BMS Will make it damage if under voltage
Yes it is so. Also because the step-up will hide the natural drop in the battery that is being discharged
in the best case you destroy the battery completely discharging it , in the worst case it can also catch fire.

Debe tener algún amplificador operacional y estabilizador

As a matter of fact if you follow the link, the battery shown is 902530 ( supposedly 9x25x30 mm) which in any case would not fit together with the booster
Quelle est cette chose
you need to remove the battery and turn it off everytime you finish using your device. because the boost converter will keep consuming energy if you leave it on. good idea, but useless.
No , with quiescent current of 200 micro amp and 500 mah battery it is enough for more than 2 month
Most boost covertors are 90% to 96% efficient. So you only end up with a battery that has a slightly smaller capacity rating than if you were not using it! Still a good idea in my book as the voltage is constant over drain period as compared to old NiMh cells!
this is brilliant. how many days did this take to complete?
Less than 1 hour
