- Frank Bramley, is an English painter who made his mark with scenes of drama and the use of what is called the 'Square Brush Method'; which was in vogue after the emergence of Bastien Lepage's remarkable masterpieces of 'Joan of Arc', and 'Grandfather', which debuted in France at the Salon during the 1880s. The power of realism done in this fashion reached English shores with the group of painters later called the Newlyn Artists- a Colony of sorts- made full use of the technique. Frank Bramley made several of his now-famous masterpieces in this quaint town.
Charming. Thank you!
Very well presented thanks for posting I know of these artist and there work often turn up at auctions.
truly thoughtful and sensitive portrayals of women in these paintings. The playfulness of the girls in ‘Eyes or No Eyes’ is infectious. Thank you for such a lovely video.
My ignorance has no limit. This was a superb presentation of an artist i did not know. Thank you very much.
Thanks for posting. I live in the SW of England and have visited Newlyn several times. In my career in museums I had the pleasure of hanging Forbes’ fish sale. It’s a fantastic painting. I’ve also copied some Newlyn paintings including that study of a woman you showed as the penultimate piece in the video. I have stayed at Lamorna cove and the cottage we rented had a parking space at the hotel there. I talked to the owner who said Munnings used to stay there and he had some paintings by him and by Lamorna Birch plus a couple of others such as Laura Knight. Those guys could paint!
Beautiful story, thank you for sharing.!
This video is outstanding. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for introducing me to these artists! I’ve been painting for years, but somehow had not heard of them. The discovery of these artists and their works is, to me, like finding a diamond on the sidewalk. Again, thank you!
Thank you
Incredible work by artists I was unfamiliar with, thank you
Wonderful art, great depiction of works and, as ever, a lovely narration.
I have never heard of this group, and am in awe of their draftsmanship and the strong emotion evoked in these works. Brilliant! Thank you for this presentation.

WOW! Why am I just finding out about this artist? Thanks for posting!
Had no familiarity with this artist but this was a treat. Thank you!!
Thank you - another wonderful video introducing me to a masterful artist. It’s exciting to see the new respect for great painting.
this channel puts mainstream art documentary makers to shame, and all done at a tiny fraction of their budget.
Many Thanks !
