Kryptok or D shape bifocals are best for his age. Before finalising please to check which one is he already using. Just stick to the same design else it will be difficult to get use to the new design.

Ridenstock products are good but no comparison for Varilux X series. The intermediate zone is best in Varilux X series.
If the price is 30-40% less then you can look for it, else go with Varilux.

Frame selection should be based on the face structure but ensure minimum 21mm from the centre of eye centre.
You will comfortable viewing intermediate and reading. Take help from am experienced optician while selecting the frame.

Last two weeks before I purchased varilux x series lenses for my Distance(-1.0 cylindrical), Near (- 1.5), eventhough distortion area of x series lenses are very minimal, I am unable to see all content of my laptop screen.. Only middle portion of content I can read and rest position I need to move my head..which is not practical to read single line. Kindly advise..is it due to cylindrical power in distance vision or, issue with lenses. As per their advertisement there's no distortion ares in x series...

Varilux X series is the most advanced progressive lenses in the world. These lenses will become comfortable within 2-3 weeks of time.
If not then you need look into the prescription ie Correction given to the eyes.
Secondly the measurements of the lenses need to be checked thoroughly.
