    I still say there's something fishy about the backup vocals on this thing. Either they had backup singers hidden behind a curtain, or they went in the studio and beefed up the vocals in post production.

    Too bad I didn't know about this band back in the 80s. These guys are awesome.
    The ties between these musicians and the bands they were in also make it interesting. Vai, Malmsteen, Blackmoore, Iomi, Bonnet, Dio, Ozzy, Gillian, & Joe Lynn Turner, Too bad they can't get together & make a supergroup.

      hahahahahaha-- It's not the lack of shirt - it's the lack of being a G. The guy has a TON of voice, he's inshape, but man, you could never mistake this guy for COOL. His stage presence was like a department store clerk who won a competition to "Be Onstage With A Real Rock Band."

    who wrote this song? where did it come from? I know it from Rainbow with Ritchie Blackmore playing the perfect outro lead with a ghost bend or something and it just seems like a Rainbow song!
    BTW is alcatraz before or after rainbow(for Mr Bonnet)? I didn't even know. I apologize, but alcatraz was just never really pushing it into the scene I was with but that was always changin too hahahaha you know, being a teenager is a lot of work sometimes...anyhoo, back to Bonnet because he's got an amazing powerful voice! All of Rainbow vocalists did! Oops! I'm sorry this is Alcatraz, ummm, they had some amazing guitar players, wow! Hey man, this is a great song. Not very typical for me. It has a very classic pop music sound to it. Like, I totally want to know what casey kasem thinks!

  • @johnp.johnson1541
    @johnp.johnson1541 2 роки тому

    Vai lacks the crispness of Yngwie. Vai's guitar sound is mush. It's runny. Vai's tone is bloody awful. That lets him hide sloppy playing.
    Watch Yngwie and then watch Vai again. If you have musical hearing, you will cringe at Vai.

      I liked Yngwie’s better, but with respect to your opinion, I think Vai was just making an effort to be sympathetic to the song, which unfortunately, Yngwie didn’t really do. I think he overplayed a lot when he was with Alcatrazz. Guaranteed that this is not Vai’s best playing or tone by miles, but this is a Blackmore song and he did what he could with it. I don’t really think he was sloppy here, it just wasn’t his comfort zone so it sounded off.

    • @johnp.johnson1541

      @@MusicissuperiorEVHROX316 It is not a Blackmore song as well. It is a Russ Ballard song.
      ua-cam.com/video/9YHRTl8YdcI/v-deo.html
      Also, Graham Bonnet was a goofy pop singer like Ballard. Ritchie gave him rock cred as did Schenker.
      Yngwie made Bonnet famous with the Japanese.

      @@johnp.johnson1541 I’m aware “Since You Been Gone” was originally written by Russ Ballard, but I meant that the song by nature of guitar work was more Blackmore than Vai, hence why Vai struggled.
      Also, it’s fine if you don’t like Bonnet, but please don’t discredit him; he’s still got a good voice. Besides he was mistreated by both Blackmore and Malmsteen. I don’t know about Schenker, but the other two were awful to him.

      @@MusicissuperiorEVHROX316 Did I state anything about Bonnett's singing?
      Bonnett was a shit to Yngwie. People went to Alcatrazz shows to hear Yngwie and not to hear Bonnett. At the time, 37 year old, hard-drinking Bonnett could not handle how 20 year old Yngwie was getting all of the attention.
      The "Switching Off Yngwe's Amp" incident is well-known.
      Bonnett would be in the RnR HoF had he let Yngwie drive that band. If only Alcatrazz recorded four LPs with Yngwie. That would have done it.
      Oh and Bonnett derailed Impelliterri's career.

    • @MusicissuperiorEVHROX316
      @MusicissuperiorEVHROX316 29 днів тому

      @@johnp.johnson1541 My apologies for misquoting you about Bonnet.
      However, there’s several different versions of that story. Jimmy Waldo and Gary Shea denied that anything happened at all, Malmsteen says it was Bonnet’s bad behaviour, and Bonnet says it was Malmsteen making a fuss and getting violent after Bonnet supposedly accidentally unplugged his guitar amp in the middle of a solo when he went onstage to go to the bus. I’ve seen several videos where Malmsteen is overplaying and jumping in Bonnet’s way while he’s trying to sing lyrics, and given what I’ve heard about Yngwie’s behaviour through his career, I think the story of him attacking Bonnet is feasible.
      Doesn’t matter what we think about Yngwie, or how good he is, or whether he drove the band or not, you don’t play leads while the singer is trying to sing the song. Of course it’s no more acceptable to unplug the guitarist’s cable in the middle of a solo, and yes Bonnet had some real bad alcohol problems at various points in his career, but nobody seems very sure what really happened; it’s like people are either with Bonnet or Malmsteen on this issue.
      Also, I’m pretty sure that the decision for a change in musical direction in Impellitteri was made by Chris Impellitteri himself, because he wanted to do a tribute to what Bonnet was well known for. Yes, Chris was never thrilled with the Stand In Line record, but he allowed that change with Bonnet and just didn’t speak up because he was a bit young, and wanted to stay true to his new bandmates.
      Bonnet certainly has his faults, believe me; I don’t think he thought very highly of his other Alcatrazz bandmates at first, which I was not at all impressed by. But Yngwie’s not a saint either.
