- Many are familiar with DreamWork's Over The Hedge. But what most people don't know is that the movie was actually based on a comic strip. And those that did know, probably had no clue the comic is still being run to this day. So this video looks over the differences between the movie and comic, as well as seeing how the strip has evolved over the years.
Crazy to think up until I became a teen, I always thought that this movie was a dreamworks original before I learned it was based on a comic strip.
Same.
I didn’t know it was based off a comic until now where I’m almost 20.
Open Season is another animated movie based on a comic strip no one has heard of before.
Really, I never knew that.
Comic was more hidden in sight than a ninja
Can't believe I'm getting Over The Hedge lore 20 years after the film came out
And the lore is still ongoing
@@Patbacknitro2I actually genuinely love the Bee Movie.
I remember coming across the comic strip during middle school around the time the movie was released. One of my teachers kept the newspaper comics sections at the back of the classroom and I remember enjoying them especially after the movie was released
"shrek wouldn't be the first dreamworks movie based on a book"
(immediately mentions httyd which came long AFTER shrek)
That was just referring to other DreamWork films based on books. However, what predates Shrek is the Prince of Egypt. I could've mentioned it first but I was set on making the joke about it lol.
I found out that fact through some behind the scenes stuff for over the hedge and in that film's commentary.
Over alll, i do like over the hedge, definitely a underrated gem.
I rewatched and loved it and got the GameCube game.
One of my most overplayed and explored DvDs when I was little.
1:47 I have never this comic strip before.
You can find it online easily if you wanna check it out, and as I mentioned it is updated daily. They're on par with other newspaper comic strips, so you should know what to expect going into it.
@@Patbacknitro2 👌🏻
I can't remember if it was a preview or what, but I do remember having a lovely chat in front of the theater afterwards with Michael Fry. He was quite pleased with the movie and I didn't see any reason why he shouldn't be.
I read the comic every single day.
The Prince of Egypt is based on a story from the book of exodus
he knows that, its just a joke
I feel like everything was secretly a adaptation of something, I recently found out Jurassic Park was based off a book...
Billy and the Clone-a-saurus by Seymour Skinner
never knew
BASED OFF A COMIC????
I LOVE COMICS!!!!
But seriously, after all these years? I already knew boss baby was based off a book and THAT surprised me
Are the characters more powerful in the Over the Hedge comics than in the movie?
also the ps2 game went hard :)
It's always fun to get movie games that act as sequels
The movie was peak ngl.
So we have RJ to thank for sinking bitcoin into the ground.

The Bible.
❤✝️❤️
its a joke
Where can I find these comics online
On the creators website. You can just look up "Over the Hedge Comic Online" and their website will pop up.
over the hedge was not a dreamworks original???!!! HUH???
Damn I love a ai voice telling me about over the hedge. Gotta love the slop
Nope not AI. I work with the amazing Nick Markgraf. He's provided voice work for several big projects, like Chainsaw Man and Attack on Titan. Very talented guy, I'm beyond thankful to have him bring these scripts to life.
yall arent helping anything by calling everything on the internet slop when you're just targeting real people and not people who actually use AI
@@Patbacknitro2 then why is he reading YOUR WORDS
why cant you just talk about stuff yourself
@@idkany293 cause my speaking voice sucks lol. You can actually hear my real voice in some of my early review. (loud house, teen Titans go, and Kim possible.) But I ended up giving that up and went looking for a voice actor to record my scripts. I put out ads on several sites and got a decent amount of replies, but Nick was the one who blew me away. His voice, as well as his mic quality and audio expertise, was unbelievable to me. At the time he was starting a ton of endeavours of his own. His own UA-cam channel, twitch, photography, etc. So he offered to voice my scripts just as another endeavor of his. And we've been working together ever since.
@@idkany293 also Nick isn't the only VA who's helped me make these videos. I also had the help of kittymews (who's voice you can hear in our Braceface and Mighty B reviews) and Dakota (Who you can hear in our Grojband and Pup named Scooby-Doo reviews). Unfortunately both people ended up having a lot of personal stuff going on, so we just fell out of touch after a while. But I'm still very thankful for them and the help they gave me.
Do shrek
This movie is based of a comic???
This used to be a comic?
Yep, and still is. The creators are still putting out strips daily
