I got a lot of movie licensed games as a kid, like The Cat in The Hat and Finding Nemo. They were mostly trash but this one stood out. It didn't retell the story of the movie but was basically a epilogue. The gameplay was crazy fun and by far the multiplayer mini games were the best part. All the neighborhood kids either wanted to play bumper golf carts with me or wanted to borrow it for a family get together
About a year ago I decided to dust off my ps2 and finish the game, turns out I left it on the last level without even realising. My ps2 returned to its slumber pretty quickly. Might have to dust it off again
@@katefeider In that regard they're just copying Disney. The idea is to go with something that's already been tested, something that gives you a high degree of confidence it'll work. The difference with Dreamworks was that it picked more obscure stories than Disney with its well-known fables
I've watched the film at least 20 times and I never knew RJ was voiced by Bruce Willis. I also played the game at least three times over. The golf cart minigame is fun, at least.
This was legitimately my favorite game as a kid. I loved the movie and this game wasn't just the usual play-through-the-story movie tie in game, it was a _sequel!_ The gameplay was really fun, the writing can be pretty witty at times, and those minigames were some of the best. Another Dreamworks game I played a lot was Madagascar. It was a lot more generic but my favorite part was the golf minigame, I played more of that than the actual main part.
Holy sht same haha I played that golf cart derby mini game with my grandpa for hours. One of the only and greatest memory’s w that man so I’ll defend those games till the day I die
@@koopahfolfif you have a wii they're relatively easy to softmod. Mine has lots of gamecube and wii games as well as the whole virtual console library on hard drive and sd card.
Interesting fact: in the game, Vincent the Bear is voiced by Jess Harnell who voiced wacko from animaniacs, the smuggler from ratchet and clank future.
I remember playing this game. I loved it so much. Until one night, robbers broke into my house and stoled my Play Station 2. And Over The Hedge game was inside it. I didn’t even finish the game. I cried so much that I asked “Santa Clause” for another one. Instead he gave me a Wii which was cool, but I didn’t get Over The Hedge game.
Finding this channel made me realize how many movie video games I played as kid. I literally suppressed it. I think I played most of them with my brain turned off.
According to Jeffrey Katzenberg (CEO of Dreamworks Animation), they were very close to making a sequel to the film, but the plans were canceled due to the box office results😔
Dude so many good memories playing the mini games on this game as well as story mode nostalgia or not it was damn fun and I’m so happy y’all picked it!
My pal and I stared playing this a week or so ago; its hella fun. I love when movie games become the sequels we never got. Only rant I have is they make a bluejay model but no cat? "This face was breed for beauty, I cannot smell"
Fun fact: According to Jeffrey Katzenberg (CEO of Dreamworks Animation), they were very close to making a sequel to the film, but the plans were canceled due to the box office results😔 So who knows, maybe this game was the possible script for that sequel. But we will probably never know
this game brings back such nostalgia of me and my littler brother co-oping, I was so delighted to see this come up in my feed and bring that feeling back
I have golden memories of me and my sister playing the bumper carts smashing into each other. And playing through the levels together. We didn’t have a memory card yet so occasionally my dad would leave it running so we could continue where we left off.
the first time i saw the movie i was a small kid waking up from a nap on the couch and it was halfway into it. For years i never saw anything about it again and thought it was a fever dream
The Over the Hedge game had the right idea of not just adapting the movie, but adding onto it AFTER the movie, rather than in it. The Cars game also did the same. Though, one game that actually did the whole "adding in the movie" thing well was the G-Force game, that one's actually a hidden gem. I played it a while back twice after not having done so for a decade, it's pretty fun and a nice blend of platforming and 3rd person shooter. As for this game, I haven't played it in a longer time, so I don't remember much, I do remember liking it though.
I don't get how even though RJ manipulated the other animals into helping him steal food for the bear you're supposed to like him just because he betrays the bear at the last second and shares the food with the other animals. He still used them and stole from people.
i love this game, but i've never been able to 100% it because half of the collectibles were out of bounds or behind invisible walls, basically unaccesible
Sometimes I’ll forget I have memories with some of these licensed games until mindpulp does a video about it. I think the bee movie game would be a good play for the channel
very good very mind pulp btw this was uploaded on my 17th bday (july 1 2021) anyways keep up the good work! love your videos! edit: i fixed my typo on misspelling the word up btw!
I just wanna say thank you for playing that song a lot, Gay Bar by Electric Six, always brings back good memories and now that you guys play it, it’s always a good laugh! Keep it up! 🤟🏽👍🏽
my biggest complaint about this movie was that the turtles shell looked weird because of his arms coming out the top and so it looked like he was wearing a tube top
Idc what anyone says, both the movie and game were an absolute childhood gem.
There was a second movie!??!

Agree heavily
Oh, god: the hours of my life that I wasted playing the bumper cart mini game

Yeah man, the fact that it takes place after the movie was really awesome. It’s a diamond in the rough of licensed games
Agreed! Bumper golf carts was the most fun mini game, nothing better than four golf carts trashing other carts and killing each other.
This needs to be backwards compatible this YEAR!
I don't remember ever seeing the movie but I remember playing golf or at least the golf clubs in this game lol
this game actually wasn't that bad. i still remember playing it all those years ago

Me too
It actually was fun for me as a kid. It felt like a sequel instead of a retelling of the movie. Probably one of the movie based games I'd play.
Game was fun as hell compared to the Shark Tale game.
Makes you want to throw the game Over The He… ah forget it…
Oof I was gonna say that
You better be one of the top comments when I come back.

@@JacobPlatinum yeah
I’m also a fan of Caddicarus. And he’s more interesting to watch because he has more videogame systems than just a PS2.
The game basically starts out at the end of the movie. And at the intro, Hammy the Squirrel was going NUTS.
@@mango-jango9995 the ending part was a pun

Wait a second…..I didn’t know Over the Hedge is based off a comic.
I never knew that either. I guess Dreamworks bases all of their animated movies off of written media.

Im pretty sure it was based on comics that a group of people who worked at DreamWorks made
i know that years before this video came out
