Lukla is a small town located in the Solukhumbu District of the Sagarmatha Zone in eastern Nepal. It is best known for its airport, Tenzing-Hillary Airport, which is one of the most dangerous airports in the world due to its short runway and location on a steep slope. Lukla is a popular starting point for those trekking to Mount Everest and other Himalayan peaks, and the town has many lodges and shops catering to trekkers. The area is also home to the Sherpa people, who are famous for their mountaineering skills and their role as guides and porters for mountaineering expeditions.
