I have been collecting quotes for more than 5 years now, every book I read I searched and wrote down all good quotes, same with the movies and series (anime especially) and personalities, but I wasn't able to find a single one that was worth of writting down in Monster. Don't be so arrogant. What is so deep about the first one? The third one is not even original, I have heard that one so many times before. Plus I don't collect every single quote there is. Just those that have some deeper meaning FOR ME... and hereby I mean it is very subjective, it always depends on the problems you have struggled with, on you own experiences. The ones you stated do not help me to put some foggy thoughts into words... I have just never done something so bad I would still regret. I didn't throw off his opinion, I wanted to hear some examples, because I wasn't able to find the good quotes on my own. And I spent a lot of time watching that show - gaining nothing from it. I was just curious if he had something interesting that I did miss. L and Tenma changing their mind... The reason Tenma changed his mind is because he didn't want to take a life, which is more than alright for a doctor, but after he did it for the third time it had nothing to do with a personality, it was just horribly written. The reason why L was changing his opinion about Light was completely different, however he never trusted him completely. He was only changing the % of chance Light could be Kira. And you always could fully understand why. The two were basically playing chess, it just made sense, I could always follow. The amount of plot holes was very little. If someone should have died, he/she died and the story went forward. Sure Johann was a symbol, that's why I wanted him to die. A symbol doesn't need a body. He should have died when the first chance occurred and the rest of the show should have been about people he influenced (that I think is the real meaning of being a symbol). The way they let him live was stupid, but I said enough about that already. EDIT: Just read the chess part in your comment - I didn't see that. From my point of view he was pointing finger and they were pointing guns. "...questions about evil such as what distinguishes evils from ordinary wrongs? Is hatred a necessarily evil? Are some evils unforgivable? Are there evils we should tolerate? What can make evils hard to recognize? Are evils inevitable?" Those are all good and deep questions I agree, but it doesn't change the fact that Johann was a murderer and that letting him flee will cause just more pain. They even didn't have to shot to kill him, if he wouldn't be able to move, the police would arrest him and that would help Tenma to clear his own identity. There were just some many things that weren't logical. And all of those just devalued the meaningful parts... obviously not for anyone, because the show has a very high rating, but for me it wasn't enjoyable at all and I usually like mainstream anime like this. Black and white - Hereby I mean every time a new character occurred you could say just from the first thing he/she did whether he/she is going to be good or bad for the rest of the story. The only exception was Eva, but I disliked her personality and that's why she wasn't interesting for me even though she did things I wasn't expecting. The reason I watched it to the end was purely because of Lunge. All the time I was hoping he will figure it out, catch Johann and end the story sooner than I will die of boredom. Only in his action I could see logic.

I have been collecting quotes for more than 5 years now, every book I read I searched and wrote down all good quotes, same with the movies and series (anime especially) and personalities, but I wasn't able to find a single one that was worth of writting down in Monster. Let me know some examples.

Fullmetal Alchemist had also some better - in my opinion of course! I also wrote down some from Berserk, Fate/Zero and from Code Geass.
Don't be so arrogant. What is so deep about the first one? The third one is not even original, I have heard that one so many times before. Plus I don't collect every single quote there is. Just those that have some deeper meaning FOR ME... and hereby I mean it is very subjective, it always depends on the problems you have struggled with, on you own experiences. The ones you stated do not help me to put some foggy thoughts into words... I have just never done something so bad I would still regret. The first one has a deeper meaning just for Johann and people who had as fuc*ed up childhood as he had. The truth is I really disliked this anime. The atmosphere couldn't be more closer to me than that - because I am from Czech Republic, I lived in Germany for some time and currently I am studying medicine with the goal becoming a neurosurgeon... Still I wans't able to follow the struggle they had with each other. Either kill or let live. Don't change your mind 3x. Johann should have been killed so many times.. The show suffered because of this. It would have been so much better if they had gone more into the direction that Johann preached his thoughts some other people and they are doing the same things he did even after he died.

Johann's "immortality" drag the whole series down imo. They didn't even tried to think off some smart ways he could escape. Only thing he did was walking straight forward pointing his finger at his forehead... and the saddest thing about that is that this actually happened more than two times. Totally black and white characters, one could always predict what will happen and what will they do. It was extremely repetitive.
You are right, death is equal belongs to very frequent quotes. Steve Jobs said it too during his Stanford commencement speech, but the way they put it in the Death note impressed me quite a bit, that's way I did write that one down. But if you do think you would be able to do a better list than this then I recommend you to do it.
I didn't throw off his opinion, I wanted to hear some examples, because I wasn't able to find the good quotes on my own. And I spent a lot of time watching that show - gaining nothing from it. I was just curious if he had something interesting that I did miss.
L and Tenma changing their mind... The reason Tenma changed his mind is because he didn't want to take a life, which is more than alright for a doctor, but after he did it for the third time it had nothing to do with a personality, it was just horribly written. The reason why L was changing his opinion about Light was completely different, however he never trusted him completely. He was only changing the % of chance Light could be Kira. And you always could fully understand why. The two were basically playing chess, it just made sense, I could always follow. The amount of plot holes was very little. If someone should have died, he/she died and the story went forward.
Sure Johann was a symbol, that's why I wanted him to die. A symbol doesn't need a body. He should have died when the first chance occurred and the rest of the show should have been about people he influenced (that I think is the real meaning of being a symbol). The way they let him live was stupid, but I said enough about that already. EDIT: Just read the chess part in your comment - I didn't see that. From my point of view he was pointing finger and they were pointing guns.

Those are all good and deep questions I agree, but it doesn't change the fact that Johann was a murderer and that letting him flee will cause just more pain. They even didn't have to shot to kill him, if he wouldn't be able to move, the police would arrest him and that would help Tenma to clear his own identity. There were just some many things that weren't logical. And all of those just devalued the meaningful parts... obviously not for anyone, because the show has a very high rating, but for me it wasn't enjoyable at all and I usually like mainstream anime like this.
Black and white - Hereby I mean every time a new character occurred you could say just from the first thing he/she did whether he/she is going to be good or bad for the rest of the story. The only exception was Eva, but I disliked her personality and that's why she wasn't interesting for me even though she did things I wasn't expecting. The reason I watched it to the end was purely because of Lunge. All the time I was hoping he will figure it out, catch Johann and end the story sooner than I will die of boredom. Only in his action I could see logic.
