Just a few clarifications: they're 10 GBe SFP+ ports, not ethernet ports. The adapter is an M.2 to U.2 adapter, not a SATA adapter. And once you enable U.2 for the far most right slot, you should not put an NVMe in it, unless you'd like to make it a brick, since u.2 requires 12 volts to power the drive. Also, this has been tested by ServeTheHome with 48 GB DIMM's of nonbinary DDR5, so it can support 96 GB. I know you mostly focus on gaming, but this is a homelabbers dream mini PC. 3 of them would give you an awesome HCI cluster on Proxmox. Also, happy new year!
ETA: PCIE x16 means a single slot gpu
Homelabber: But can I bifurcate it for 4 more m.2 drives?!
😂
Your confusing layer 1 port and media types with layer 2 protocol. Sfp+ can be used with any number of media type modules but they are all still Ethernet. The original Ethernet is actually bnc which uses a coax cable.
He still telling shit
what NICs are they? Realtek, intel?
@@psycl0ptichopefully not realtek lol
Feels like one of those pieces of tech that are always written of as a business expense but are kept home.
ETA Prime forgot to mention when listing the ports, but those 2 in the middle are full speed USB4 40Gbit ports. So this system suddenly became much more attractive to me.
It's really impressive how small those things can be, even with a dGPU installed. Crazy!
I wish my ex found small things impressive
@@pepito69 🤣
Dear @etaprime , Thank you for all your videos, wish you even better 2024.
Two weeks ago, I got miniPC with AMD 7840HS APU, also thanks to your videos about it. And that thing is a blast. For 550USD I have a machine with 32Gb DDR5 5600 and 1Tb SSD.
Here are my benchmark results:
Geekbench 6 : SingleCore: 2624, MultiCore: 13034
FurMark: 33FPS (pulling around 48W)
3D Mark Nigh Raid: GPU score: 36186 CPU score: 14546 (seems like AMD cpu is stronger, but of course iGPU is not vs actual graphic card)
3D Mark FireStrike: GPU score: 8378, Physics score: 27789, combined 2952, good for 60+ FPS in BFV @1080p Ultra settings
3D Mark Time Spy: GPU score: 2976, CPU score: 10484, not really far off that MiniPC
Tomb Raider: 56 FPS for the same settings.
Amazing having those SFP ports on there. Could be real handy machine.
It's one little m.2 card away from being a beast of a file server.
Happy New Year ETA!
Always enjoy your videos, but I have one small request: can you call out HDMI 2.0 vs HDMI 2.1 ports? With 1440p and 4k being so common, understanding the limits of the port at a glance would be very helpful!
This unit is HDMI V2.0
Happy new year eta & everyone 🎉🎉🎉 May this year be crazy awesome😊
The HDMI port is HDMI 2.0 max out at 4k@60hz so if you want higher refresh rate you will need an adapter for the USB4 type C. Also the second eth is vPro capable so you can remote into it like IPMI but you will need a dummy HDMI plug or connected to a monitor.
Also there is a little switch to toggle between U.2 and M.2 for the first m.2 slot. Do not forget to toggle it back to m.2 if you choose to install an m.2 nvme otherwise you will brick the drive.
The 3 m.2 slots are not all the same, the first one is PCIe-gen 4 4x the second one is PCIe- Gen3 4x the last one is PCI-e Gen3 2x.
Power envelope can be adjusted in the BIOS, it will dial down once a PCI-e card is installed but can be dial up again.
The WiFi card is MediaTek not intel.
Happy new year from Rome Italy! 🎉🎊
To the point as usual. Good info, good video.
It's such a small unit I'm worried about the temperature with extended high performance use. I'd like to see someone do at least a 24 hour stress test and see what the temperature is for each 15 minutes of the test. I'm thinking the NVME drives are gonna run real hot with what appears to be a small fan and it doesn't look like it's even ducted. It would be interesting to run a clustered video management system with 60-75 4k cameras.
Happy new year ETA 🔥❣️
Thanks lot for useful information, especially regarding GPU.
Nice mini workstation 👍 with i9-13900H (14c/20t) + RX6400, showing decent power consumption at-the-wall. Guessing maybe it is not quiet. (I remain p4r4n01d about ITD Intel Thread Director though I probably should not be.)
*Another incredible year of content from you ETA -- THANK YOU* 🎉❤
Kindest regards, friends and neighbours.
The big advantage of this system is the dual sfp+ ports. This makes it very interesting for a home lab virtualizatuon system.
Happy New year ETA prime 🎉
Very good, channel. I love new technologys.
This with a usb 4 gpu enclosure would be very cool.
That is absolutely insane for the size. I want one
Mini PC is the future 🔥🔥
They make more sense than a laptop for most consumers.
@conchobar Yeah, I'm seriously thinking about getting one of the mini PCs mentioned on this channel (or future ones) that can I can game on when it's time to replace my current gaming laptop. I already have a 1440p monitor the laptop is connected to, so why not? I'm excited to see these mini PCs get better & better!
@@conchobarnah not really they still use more electricity than laptops.
The only problem is the portability and temperatures. But laptops do have temperature problems as well.
@@briankingham175try checking the 4060 mini ITX build from this channel. It has good performance but it's slightly worthless for the price. It's expensive to make it and you'd be better off buying a used GPU and getting a better power supply.
this looks cool, I wish they could make the case a little more taller to support a dual slot gpu
This thing is insane. I love it
yes i would love to see the a2000, would really like to see Ark SE although i know you never run that. Keep up the great work!
In addition to see your testing treatment on this machine with MORE graphics power, I’d like to see how it fares with LESS. Can you do a video testing it as it ships? Using the iGPU?
I’m new to the channel and greatly enjoy your videos. You have a way of enthusiastically presenting but with no hype. Please keep up the great work.
Happy new year!
Man, a 30TB U.2 and an A2000 + 10Gb switch would make this into the ultimate mini Plex Server with Transcoding.
Would a a4000 fit
ETA said the A2000 wouldn't fit, would love confirmation on this
@@JimmyJoeMcGurl short circuit had a video with them putting a a2000 inside of it live.
@@Spencerwalker21ah thanks so much man, gonna check it out. The one thing I just noticed looking around UA-cam is that minisforum posted a video of this 3days ago showing an A2000 going in but needing a cooler mod to make it fit. Also of note is that I looked around the internet for a cooler mod for a while and there seems to be no widely available one to purchase. Some people made them on forums, but I didn't see the one minisforum used anywhere. Would be cool if they sold it as an optional add-on or something
Happy new year 😊
Love the rx6400 it fits
This looks great 🙂
This PC could be cool with a modded case for a dual slot GPU.
Love to see tests of a GPU specifically for video editing...
happy new year
I have that very same rx 6400 card in a lenovo thinkstation tiny pc with a Intel Core i7 10700t, and it gets pretty toasty in there.
I got a mini pc with a ryzen 7 5700u and 16gb of 3200 ddr4 runs pretty well actually. It's a 2nd pc to my alienware desktop
Hopefully we can revisit this mini pc with some other gpu options, as well as egpu performance. I'm curious about how u will shoehorn the A2000 in
What keyboard is in the thumbnail for the video? I like the color scheme on that thing
The RX 6400 is impressive provided you use a pci 3.0 slot at the very least.
A 24TB Emulation and games server, smaller than a limited edition, late 90's - early 2000's, midnight release of Unreal Tournament? Damn!
This is awesome. Is it possible to throw in the LP 4060 in there with/out undervolt?
I'm drooling to get this for my homelab but I can't justify it. My Raspberry Pi5 is doing a great job with CasaOS for now while sipping much lower power. 😅
I bought one sight unseen 4 days ago. The moment i saw Dual USB4 and DUAL SPF+ i bought one! I was hoping to see a video about it. I plan to run ProxMox. Would love to see an external GPU using a PCIe extension or riser cable, would love to see what a 4090 with external power supply and some 3d Printing could do! Thanks for the video.
For sure. Even without a GPU in that slot it's still a networking beast. Imagine if you could get an m.2 card in that slot for a really tiny all-SSD storage server. The Intel iGPUs are little beasts for transcoding as well.
@@DigitalJedi Yeah this will be great as my on set backup computer for footage. An 8TB Raid 0 would be awesome in that slot for those kind of days.
@@PNW-JT Already have a Meshilicious. It still takes up a lot of space kinda. This will be my on set footage backup/Server/NDI Streamer for my films. The 4090 will stay at home unless needed for AI or Unreal Engine on set. Although UE might require more than 1 PCIe for Genlock but we'll see what we can do when i finally get it in my hands. If i really like it i was also thinking Cluster at some point but i don't think i need it or understand what its for exactly other than having super reliability.
I think you might be able to do this with the GZOSMETA EG01 PCIe Gen 5 x16 enclosure kit from Taobao. The enclosure kit includes a half-height PCIe x16 to MCIO connector card and some MCIO cables and can connect to the MCIO connectors at the enclosure.
Are you running Windows 11 Home or Pro edition? Reason I ask is, when I tried to upgrade my UM790 Pro, I am advised the Mini PC does not meet the minimum requirements (lacking support for Microsoft TPM 2.0. AFAIK. Also, what other higher end GPU cards could you recommend if to go higher then the Radeon 6400? Thanks.
Looks like a perfect SSD nas!
Just set up my Venus UM790 Pro this past weekend and it's great. But my goodness. There's no way to keep ahead of the technology.
Thank you for the idle power draw measurement. It's hard to find, sadly. Although I'd have been interested to know the idle without the extra GPU, and maybe also with disabling the 10G ports.
Have you considered looking at the GZOSMETA EG01 eGPU enclosure kit and test with a bigger GPU?
You didn't mention the dual USB4 ports on the rear. Were they disabled for this model? That many USB3 or better ports on the rear looks great to me, as well as the multiple internal M.2 slots. I archive my professional video footage I shoot for my clients for years, so seeing the option to have several large (and VERY FAST) internal long-term storage drives with multiple external RAID connections on the rear looks very appealing to me.
I'd like to see a slightly taller one that could handle a dual slot card. Would also allow for more cpu cooling and maybe even a socketed 65w ryzen cpu
I think Dell has a new single slot 6GB card on their site...ARCPro A40 and the A50 looks like the A2000.
Would the Nvidia Tesla p4 LP work here? Great machine, great video!
@ETA PRIME any chance you can ask minisforum about the A2000 compatibility situation? Seems a little misleading as the only way to fit an a2000 is to find a VERY difficult to source mobile version put onto a desktop PCB, or as they showed in a recent video, swap out the low profile A2000 OEM cooler for a single slot height cooler, which can't be purchased anywhere, and seems to be only able to be custom made. Thanks, hopefully you see this
3d print a top cover and try it out should even be good for cooling since the fans will be exposed to fresh air
on top of the frame gen driver for 6000 series this thing is a lil beast
Reminds of those modem/router in the form factor.
I would be very interested to see a high end GPU installed. I have this unit on order but wasn't sure what GPU would fit while providing the best performance.
This little think would be perfect for a small HPC cluster.
Hi ! Thanx for the video! Please can you give us a list of compatible gpu cards ? With links for buying ? ❤
Id much rather buy one of these over a latop! One of these and a small portable 15in screen is all I need 😍
I want this thing with a 4*M.2 bifurcation card for a powerful nano server.
Also at 1:03 this looks like it might be a U.2 or even a SAS adapter, probably a U.2 because it doesnt look like its a straight PCIe passthrough without a SAS controller on it, though it may be on the back side
Edit: 1:55 Oh dang, its a 4x slot, can only add 2 M.2 cards unless this slot supports 8x down to 2x2x2x2x which would still be more than fast enough considering there are 3 more on the back
@@PNW-JT It works with my 3600X, 4650G, 7950X and 12600k, it seems to be up to the motherboard not the CPU to support bifurcation.
I think even Atom processors support bifurcation though they only have 9 PCIe lanes to go around
@@PNW-JT want your mind blown?
On my 7950X server i have a 4X M.2 bifurcation card, and on that card i have 4 M.2 to U.2 adapters connected to 4xOptane 905P 1TB drives to act as cache and special metadata.
Wish PCIe re-drivers werent so expensive, or i'd get one of those 16x4.0 to 32x3.0 re-drivers and throw 4 more NVMe drives in.
3.0 is plenty fast for my needs, heck i'd be happy with 2.0 speeds as long as latency isnt reduced by much.
This model seems like an odd fit for gaming or workstation use to me. Seems like it would be a great fit with all the storage and network for a mini home lab server host. Maybe use the PCIe slot for more storage.
Definition of a workstation varies depending on your requirements. Some only need a low power Quadro or Fire. Also many firms doing engineering are on 10Gbe networks. By leaving the slot empty gives you options within its power profile.
Can I ask you if on the BIOS there is option to make power on after AC LOSS? Old Minis PC didn’t have this option. Thanks in advance
I would love this form factor but with a 8 core AMD 7000 or 8000 CPU and if the video card slot could fit the RTX 4060 low profile video card.
Please include noise test in future videos.
Dammit, I'm really conflicted now for a compact travel photo/video editing rig.
Trying to decide whether to get the AR900i that recently came out for $559 and spend $129 on a 3L case + PSU and have the beefier HX variant of this processor with a single 2.5Gb ethernet port.
Or get this case for $679 that's even MORE compact, with an H-variant CPU, but get some sweet networking ports that help with transferring photo/video and data between multiple NAS drives if need be.
How about doing a follow-up with an Oculink 8x adapter and an external GPU? See how this fares with a RTX 4090!
I think you might be able to do this by getting the GZOSMETA EG01 PCIe Gen 5 x16 enclosure kit from Taobao. Based on the pictures, the enclosure kit includes a half-height PCIe x16 to MCIO connector card and some MCIO cables and can connect to the MCIO connectors at the enclosure.
You should just pull the cooler and shroud off the bigger card and put a custom cooler on it maybe something that just disapates heat into the chasi
Can't wait for a successor to the 6400
I don't think there's a rx7400 planned, but with rdna4 supposedly not aiming high, we can hope for an rx8400.
What's the power draw on this thing? I got tired of paying $400 a month electric bills so I had to shut down my home lab. I've been trying to spec out a low wattage version ever since.
this is neat! 💜💜
Im glad this exists but we have to see how it compares to the 8700g because i can already see something even smaller but thicker with just the 8700g some laptop ram obviously the cpu part wont be on par but the gpu could be better
8700G should be 8x Zen4 so the CPU performance should be similar to the R7 7700. 13900H is 6+8 with similar power limits so it may be closer than you think.
I really wanna see it run a better GPU
I would love to try to stream and game on that.
If they would just make PCs like this about an inch taller, slightly more power for power supply and make all the m.2 slots Gen 4 these things would even more amazing and still super portable. May look at a more powerful single slot graphis card because this still could be a great mini pc.
There is plenty I don't like about it as well but I'm looking to build a 5L pc. I'm looking at the MinisForum mobos w/cpus like the AR900i, BD770i and I think the BD790i will be a beast but I like the AR900i because it has 4xm.2.@@PNW-JT
quick Q: what is the keyboard shown in the thumbnail of this video?
Wouldn't the rtx 4060 low profile fit in if you adjusted the cooler?
At 1:41
Rear I/O....
You failed to mention the two USBC connectors between the HDMI and the ethernet....
That PCIe slot only operates at x8 speeds even though its pcie x16 physical slot
I would definitely fab a new cover just to put bigger GPU in there.
Unfortunate there's no choice of CPU vendor. Intel 10nm process with "efficiency cores" is not for me. Otherwise, it's interesting, thanks for the look over.
I hope they release an AMD/Ryzen version soon.
Good external gpu candidate via nvme Oculink or thunderbolt
I was wondering what brand of memory and M.2 you were using for this unit?
Hey, did you measure the 21 watts in idle with an installed GPU? I’d love to use this as a home server with Linux but 21 watts in idle is actually quite a lot for me.
I've read in a forum post that vanilla idle (with 2 ram modules and 1 ssd) is 12-14 watts. But I'd be also curious to hear if it's possible to decrease it by bios tweaking, or by disabling the unused devices, for example wifi and 10g ports (if one uses the 2.5 G ethernet).
Would like to see the new A4000 Ada in there
I would like to see if you do a review with the NVIDIA A4000 SFF Ada 16GB GPU installed in the MS-01.
Can’t wait to see the a2000z could it do a 4060 lp 👀? Would love to see it
4060LP needs an additional 8-pin as it draws up to 115W.
gdi, I JUST bought four BD770is, picked specifically because I could use the slot for a 10G NIC because you can't buy Mini-ITX systems with 10G built in, and discovered that having the NIC in there causes the BIOS to get screwed up and the board to have trouble booting. and now you can't buy an MS-01 barebones. I love the homelab hobby but damn if it isn't a PITA to try to nail down the right hardware.
There is a low profile RTX3050 single slot gpu selling in Taobao China. Read some local reviews it's amazing, better than RX6400.... A2000 on the other might need some modding on the heatsink to get it into the chassis unless we'll just leave the case open while gaming.
how about an rtx 4060 low profile gpu will it work even if it has to be out side case with a pcie extender?
Wow this would make a KILLER Hackintosh with all those specs. 96gb ddr5 ram, 4tb nvme gen4 and space for more drives (though at gen 3) 2x 10gbe 2x usb 4 thunderbolts... Very nice. Though the heat and noise I wonder.
Would this pc work well with pcvr and a quest 2?
pricey, but would make for an amazing homelab
if you have a laser printer, you can modify the case :D
make it able to fit A2000
there are single slpt mods out there for the a2000, they will increase temps and noise but will fit nicely in this mini pc
What about a a4000 would that fit
@@Spencerwalker21afaik the a2000 and a4000 have the exact same cooler mounts, so a single slot mod would work
where do you even get single slot low profile a2000 from? I can't find any for sale.
Maybe you could use a larger gpu with a pcie riser
I guess it got wifi too? About 10Gb and 2.5Gb ethernet port, is there which I find it confuse on because I only got on my router is 1Gb ethernet, is there apater to convert to?
Does the front minis forum ms-01 audio jack require a trs or trrs connector?
Could be possible to install a Low Profile RTX 4060? if it needs more power then use a more wattage power supply?
Awesome video. But I prefer iGPU.
Looking out for more powerful gpu options
Could you do a video where you plug a egpu via thunderbolt? Is that possible?
