    What varieties you have. Ther are many but most grow well up to zone 8. On 7b I’m growing wonderfull, Parfianka, Grenada, and salavasky varieties now on their second year. They die to the ground and come back. I hope they acclimatize to my area. Some Russian varieties like Parfianka should do well.

      Yes they are beautiful, both flowers and fruits on the tree. I planted lots of them a while ago but only some will make it in zone7a. The beautiful white variety and the Wonderful variety will not make it here. Both of them died in hard winters.Stick with the Russian varieties if it's this cold.

      I don't grow many trees from seeds, but there are some that you can and have fruits pretty soon too. Like Loquat and Guava.

      I’m starting my QUAVA seed and Pomegranate seeds this week... planning on seeing if I make them more cold hardy... lol. I have more than enough seeds, to do the experiments! We should all start doing this and hopefully we are all successful.

    Are you VA as in Virginia? I'm in central VA and we LOVE pomegranates. Wondering if there are tips and tricks you have to growing them. Your pomegranate trees are the most beautiful I've seen. Amazing!

      I am in Northern Virginia, so you are a little warmer than where I am. Not all pomegranate varieties will make it here in zone7a, stick with the Russian varieties for cold hardiness.
      The beautiful white and wonderful varieties will not make it here, I had two mature trees for 4 years and died the 5th when they were hit by a hard winter. Plant them close to a structure for added protection. Mulch the base well in winter first couple years.

    The pomegranates, grow without covering them in the winter?
    (I left you another comment and question, on another video too) I’m starting my seeds now.... so very curious to know if my seedlings will make fruit and when (age of tree) should I plant them outside , in the ground? Zone 7B, Gloucester Va.

      @@jimmyva4407 Would any zone 7 variety work? I'm also in NOVA

  • @will2913
    @will2913 2 роки тому

    Does it rain a lot in NOVA? I imagine it’s very similar to my area in Hampton Roads. Is your native soil well draining? My couple of pomegranates I got last year rotted before fully ripening. Not sure why. Meanwhile your pomegranates look so healthy!

    • @jimmyva4407
      @jimmyva4407  2 роки тому

      It does rain a lot here in NOVA from April to June and clay soil so not draining very well. So years I get fruit rot around October, I stop watering around then.

      @@jimmyva4407 Mine didn’t make it past July. I think I will try a couple of Russian varieties and try to plant them in a raised bed for better drainage. Do you normally harvest that many fruit?
