@@MylesMarkevich Tom knew this was, at the time, my favorite composition of his. I had asked him the day before about getting a recording of him playing it, and he kindly obliged. I keep coming back to this one over and over. Such a nostalgic, Light-hearted sound to this rag, reminds me of as a kid going to disneyland or the fair with my family.
@Cj McCollum I don't know, man. Have you seen any of the updates? He seems to have plateaued and may even be getting worse. Last I heard he couldn't even speak
@@nexongn This was a good few months back. They finally relinquished to let him finally transfer to a therapy facility. It hasn’t been a year since then yet so we’ll just have to sit and hope for the best.
Man his health comes first, we already have so much documented music from him. Tom Breir coming back to play would be nice, but i say recovering is better.
I remember being incredibly jealous and insecure about his playing, but I would listen to all of his songs and any videos with him. Now after I heard about the accident I felt so regretful and mean. I now wish he can become healthy so I can hear his music once more.
Not many people would have the courage to be honest about that, when I feel myself feeling jealous I check myself and realise I have fallen into the ego, meditation usually helps.
Actually, this was recorded by me. But foundring (Kylan) is a great guy. I played piano with him here in Sedalia and in Santa Cruz CA at a festival that Kylan ran for a couple of years. I highly recommend his channel to anyone who enjoys piano music.
It took me a couple of weeks - the continuous 4 and 5-note chords were a little problematic for me at the time, especially since I was still a teenager at the time and my hands were not fully grown. With that said, this is not an incredibly difficult piece. If you can play the Maple Leaf Rag, you can play Just Peachy - it's more challenging, but not overwhelmingly so.
@@ericmshore no offense buddy but I've never seen a video of you playing it with anywhere near the speed and consistency of this performance. If you are going to claim that it's not very challenging you should at least be able to play it cleanly
Both have a medium tempo Fox trot rhythm, and more obviously, both feature a gospel harmony with this kind of progression: I-iii7-vi used a lot, and vi-IV trading also used.
Seriously, could be they're getting to bleed. I've heard said that Tom did play hard enough sometimes to stain the keys and get them slippery - enough so other players always had the keyboard cleaned before they started the next set - if just so to get rid of the sweat. Then again, that could be just one o them ragtime folk tales.
Sweat I can believe, but blood?? The only way to bleed on the piano key is if you cut your finger nails really short and then you bang hard on the keys and you bleed in between your finger nails and your flesh...happened to one of my friends before...anyway, you are likely o break a few strings before you would bleed on the piano keys...playing Chopin
Nope, this was not sped up at all. This is actually a bit slower than he takes the tune in other performances. See the video description for another in which he plays the tune much faster (also not sped up).
If you enjoy this, check the video description for links to other performances of the same piece.
This song title is exactly how I hope Tom Brier is feeling today, and everyday.
Not after his accident sadly 😢
@@creeke_alleyI believe that’s what he meant, like “I hope he’s feeling good all the time” not “only before the accident.”

No kidding. Tom is truly gifted and it was a surreal experience to stand next to the piano while he played.

Through his performances, Tom inspired me to take up and persevere with piano. He has a special place in my heart.
he's the reason why I learned piano in the first place lol

I feel like I can overcome any adversity with this in my arsenal. Thanks again.

this piece is so good 😱
My favorite original by tom
just noticed that piano is rocking a lot as he plays it lol XD
It's bopping to the beat
It is probably nervous because of who is playing it
It occurs because there is not a lot of support for the piano; that is to say, the piano must not be very sturdy.
I seem to recall this festival sets up portable temporary stages around town, and most likely this piano is one of those.

Great Job!

Reminds me of Too Many Spoons in the first 2 sections.
It surely does! I hadn't thought of that before you mentioned... but YES
Learning this now and 4 note chords... 4 note chords everywhere. But I'm determined.
Don't give up! :-)
How's it been?
Trust me, I've seen worse! Try learning "Perfessor" Bill's Crocodile Stomp. It's a real doozy!! Tenth chords all over the place!

iTunes has Tom Brier songs for download. I've downloaded a few myself.
Many of his compositions (including this one) can be downloaded on MuseScore, if you get a subscription to that.
