Nope, this was not sped up at all. This is actually a bit slower than he takes the tune in other performances. See the video description for another in which he plays the tune much faster (also not sped up).

Thank you! All of the videos of me playing piano are old and out of date. Now I live on a farm in the wilderness and don't attend festivals so much. I'm in the process of setting up a home studio, to record and upload music. Are you a musician too?

@@ericmshore I'm a "musician wannabe." I played piano for my high school choir, but that was 60 years ago. My piano sat lonely in the corner for most of my adult life, but I began practicing again a few years ago. After moving 2 years ago, I just got my piano back out of storage so I can resume practicing. I met you in Santa Cruz. The " Santa Cruz Ragtime" youtube channel is a channel I set up to highlight as many of the performances as I could. Sorry, the video on your performance wasn't too good. (Someone left a question for you on the Santa Cruz video.) I just subscribed to your channel, hoping to see performances from your home studio one of these days. I'd be in "7th Heaven" if I could play anywhere close to as good as you!!! :D

It took me a couple of weeks - the continuous 4 and 5-note chords were a little problematic for me at the time, especially since I was still a teenager at the time and my hands were not fully grown. With that said, this is not an incredibly difficult piece. If you can play the Maple Leaf Rag, you can play Just Peachy - it's more challenging, but not overwhelmingly so.

@@ericmshore no offense buddy but I've never seen a video of you playing it with anywhere near the speed and consistency of this performance. If you are going to claim that it's not very challenging you should at least be able to play it cleanly

Actually, this was recorded by me. But foundring (Kylan) is a great guy. I played piano with him here in Sedalia and in Santa Cruz CA at a festival that Kylan ran for a couple of years. I highly recommend his channel to anyone who enjoys piano music.

Both have a medium tempo Fox trot rhythm, and more obviously, both feature a gospel harmony with this kind of progression: I-iii7-vi used a lot, and vi-IV trading also used.

BUT- Tom’s piece came first, I’m pretty sure (it’s 1992 I *think*, and the other one is 1994/95)

Not many people would have the courage to be honest about that, when I feel myself feeling jealous I check myself and realise I have fallen into the ego, meditation usually helps.

No kidding. Tom is truly gifted and it was a surreal experience to stand next to the piano while he played.

@@MylesMarkevich Tom knew this was, at the time, my favorite composition of his. I had asked him the day before about getting a recording of him playing it, and he kindly obliged. I remember after this, whenever I'd be at one of his sets in Sedalia, he would play this for me. Such a kind and considerate man, always.

So great to read how it went. I really wish I got to know Ragtime sooner :'-(

@Cj McCollum I don't know, man. Have you seen any of the updates? He seems to have plateaued and may even be getting worse. Last I heard he couldn't even speak

@@gregatron11 yeah, his family didn’t get him adequate speech or physical therapy, but I think he is getting it now

@@nexongn This was a good few months back. They finally relinquished to let him finally transfer to a therapy facility. It hasn’t been a year since then yet so we’ll just have to sit and hope for the best.

Man his health comes first, we already have so much documented music from him. Tom Breir coming back to play would be nice, but i say recovering is better.
