It's only thanks to it being turned into the O2, which is a world class venue, that we don't hold this up more often as a colossal waste of time and public money.
What really sank this was how expensive and difficult it was for most of the country to visit it. Living in North Wales it at the time would have been multiple trains to get there, possibly requiring an overnight stay. If they had the infrastructure in place to get people there they would have visited.
The fun parts are them just not bothering with a creative director and instead having some weird council to oversee designs (which is of course why the theming was utterly disjointed) and thinking they could just open the dome and make the operations team learn the ins and outs of running the place on the fly. (Or trying to have all invited sponsor guests attend on one day alone) The rest sort of just snowballs from those initial mistakes.
The most obvious reason it was a complete flop was that it ran for year 2000 rather than 1999. Once the magical date had been reached, the public had no reason to care. It’s all in the anticipation. Seemingly nobody working on the project ever considered this!
I don't suppose you have the other 4 episodes? My earliest memory was when I went to the Millennium Dome aged 3 or 4. I can remember a surprising amount considering my age. The exhibition and the surrounding politics is something I am quite fascinated with. If you do have the remaining episodes you'll make my day.
Very interesting would like to have seen the other parts. I think I heard the Dome was to be sold off after the initial year but that deal didn't go through.
What a disgusting waste of money. I was 21 that year and I still remember how astounded I was at the money thrown at that vanity project of New Labour.
I'm still queuing for the body zone 😆🤣 I went to the Dome in I think... 2000? With the school, was still queues to get into the body zone and it wasn't too bad I liked it and enjoyed it as a 13 year old. The rest of the dome though was pretty boring, a lot of the attractions didn't work properly or were out of order. I still call it the dome instead of the 02. Also didn't they have a Radio 1 rave in there? 99 into 2000 Dave Pearce I remember hearing on the radio going mad, but where was that actually inside the dome?
According to Wikipedia "In 2001 Page married Jeremy David Orme, an accountant. In 2006, she was appointed vice-chairman[2] of the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England " I'd love to see how she worded her C.V. for that job.

The dome featured in The James Bond film The World Is Not Enough

Really regret not visiting
I was 10 at the time, it was great but I wouldn't have gone back.
Thank you VHS Video Vault....
Perhaps they should have asked the youngsters first..... A big indoor funfair may have worked..

I think this is the only one I've got, but if any others do turn up I'll upload them.

More famous for the millennium dome heist
26:31 that's my Porche!! I was there getting paid for loads of stuff no one used.
Doesn't matter how long you go on calling it a dome, it's not a dome, it's a tent. How could it have worked with that inaccuracy/lie in it?
Great, do you have any clips from The National Television Awards from 2001,2002,2003 and 2004 please many thanks
I was planning on spending the week at goodwood....BASTARDS!!!

I thought the show alone was worth the entire cost, it it was a shambles though. If i remember the body stank.
Will always be a white elephant and a tremendous waste of public money.
It’s still a sh*thole now….
Politicians couldn't organize a tupperware party. From the early 90ies its has been a shit show. HS2??
It's just breathtakingly shite.
It was always a crap idea.
