    The illusion works best where there is one stone over two or two stones joined over one. In other words, no obvious vertical lines from top to bottom. Nice work and a great skill to teach to others!

    My project for this spring... a faux rock retaining wall for a raised tropical garden bed. Have been scratching my head for many days trying to concoct a plan on how to construct the foundation for my cement. Was going to collect used concrete pieces from old sidewalks, etc and build it that way, cementing them together and then going over that with the concrete I plan to create the faux rock look with but my BF has vetoed taking advantage of free materials from Craigslist. Hadn't considered doing it this way with rebar until now, when also researching how the hell I will build out the support structure for the future waterfall that will eventually connect to soon-coming garden bed. I wish there was more detailed information on the process of building the structure, and mixing the concrete. It looks easy here but I picture me starting this big project one wheel-barrow at a time, and the concrete just being so squishy that it won't hold a vertical shaped. Having a cement truck is an absolute no, before I even ask.
    FYI:
    I have never mixed up or used cement in any way before.

    I like all your work! But too big for me and too far out in Australia! Am hooked on this hobby with Ponds and waterfalls. Question is I have reeinforcing and burlaps galore can I make something with it? Rocks I have and can get more, cement I like to work with it, so can I do something in a small way with it? Would appreciate Your help. Nice hobby, done me well!

    Could I use this technique if I wanted to build a wall 30' high, such as for a rock climbing wall? Would I make steel structure and then plywood and then rebar and then the cement?

    • @macplastering
      @macplastering 6 років тому

      I think you would have to do it up in stages as it will take you time to finish it, looks wise so say 5 foot at a time but what you say sounds good keep the steel strong and mabe use wire mesh as well for extra strength

      2-3 slump and for every yard in the truck they put a bucket of some additive. Makes it harden up and look more like grout.

    • @valoruniversity
      @valoruniversity 9 років тому +9

      skyastradriver I recently made a retaining wall that was about 36" high. I used this mix. 2 parts Portland concrete (mixed 35% fly ash) and 1 parts fine dust sand. With this mix, I used 1/4 cup of plasticizer, 4 cups of acrylic fortifer. try keeping a 2- 1/2 inch slump when using this recipe.
