I just rode the section starting at 6:05 on my dualsport today and OH BOY it was chunky even on a moto with suspension and big chunky tires. This would be a wild wild bike ride, one day!
Back in the early ‘90s I rode from the 22nd St/Craycroft area to Lake Patagonia. About 75 miles via the Sonoita Highway. The low gear on my 50th Anniversary Schwinn Paramount was 42/23. Windy too. It was a tough ride. Met some friends at the lake and got a ride home.
Loved Tucson back in 2000, I used to ride the Shootout quite often. I rode Tucson to Patagonia and back on pavement many times. It's awesome country out there. I love your way. Thanks for the great video.
Haha I recognized some of the spots on the loop immediately, was there yesterday. Also it looks you took the same dirt roads east into Patagonia that I did on a bikepacking trip once. Some of those “roads” really are rugged lol.
The Bike Path here in Tucson, Arizona #520 is breathtaking. It's like our 8th Wonder. Unbelievable. Incredible how it connects the whole city and surrounding areas together so beautifully. #GenuisMode
Dude we used to ride Tucson-Vail-Sonoita-Patagonia-Nogales and back to Tucson musta been like 165 miles but All on Road back in 91-92!! Good Job!! Yeah and The Shootout Ride was On even back Then lol
As a Tuscon native, GREAT VIDEO. Yes, our roads go from brand new (Gates Pass) to absolutely miserable (Mission Road over Sprint Hill). Yes, you'll need wider tires to go over the pass into Patagonia, but those 44s were just enough. Thanks for the warning about fueling and watering up in Green Valley. There's absolutely NOTHING out there until you get to Patagonia. Overstock is the word. Nice bike also. Hope you visited the local Cannondale dealers while you were here.
Was out there over the x-mas to new years time frame. Some great riding as you show here Ted. There is some gravel out there though that you need 50mm tires on.
Some really bad advice here. Riding Gates Pass and Mission Road is VERY dangerous for a road biker. There is no shoulder. People have been killed on these routes. Also, DO NOT take Highway 82 to Sonoita after you finish Box Canyon. It is a death trap. Sonoita to Patagonia is a pretty good shoulder. King is a daredevil and hopefully his crazyness will not kill him. DO bike Patagonia. DO bike Box Canyon.
This type of hyping up of locations adds to the gentrification and colonization of these places imo. Just say it's a cool place but is there a need to call it a "hotbed" beyond the attention grabbing title?
Tucson has some incredible bike paths that connect the city, you can do some major distance with never touching a road.
When I first read "Tucson to Patagonia" I was like, whoa, that's a lot to cover in a 9 minute video :)
I know, right? That's what I used to lure you in...
Ha! I had the same reaction! Then watchong the clip I was like -- why are there American flags down in Patagonia
@@TedKing1 Well played :)
Watching from a very damp UK while on the trainer in my garage. Not jealous of the stunning scenery at all!
I started on the Rene Herse tires after watching one of your videos. Such a great tire. Appreciate you
Right? If only everyone tried them, they’d realize that RH are the only way to go!

Fun to watch. Thanks for the virtual journey...Planning on it!
Blessed to call it home 🏡
I was looking for a review of these exact tires. Thank you!
Incredible terrain, love dessert riding in the winter of course. Killer panorama.
What a beautiful ride!
It's definitely a whole different environment than we have here in Belgium.
Hey don't give all of our Tucson secrets away!! 🙂 Just kidding, LOL!! Thanks for the wonderful vid. Great seeing my friend Zander in it too.

Very beautiful country, I fish Patagonia at times!
The bike paths are one of many reasons I plan on retiring there in the coming years!
Got me psyched for my adventure tomorrow after a hard weekends work 👌
Really appreciate your drivetrain choice. I've got similar ratio of 42t/11x46t
Good call. 42t 10/50 mullet here. Absolutely love it.
Love that part of AZ. Did a bikepacking trip Feb 2021 and the chunk is for real

Ahh great video!!! that music was so a throwback to the kill Phil video…

Thanks, glad you liked it!
Cool vid bro!!! It’s deadly hot in the summer time 🤪 glad your sweet lil mama was there to great you
went to college at the UofA before I was into biking, makes me want to go back and bring the bike!
Your guess on Mexico being 30 miles is almost perfect. Elephant head road to Mexico gate by rail is 31 miles from there.
Loving the edit. Keep it up. Thanks.
Get your hands on a few Sonoran dogs?!? Best hot-dogs ive had in my life!

Looks so good. Can't wait to head down for The Spirit World.
The dirty T is where it's at. Never leaving! Glad you had fun!
im a native tucsonian and this was a great video not only but impressive
Much appreciated. That’s the verification I need!
Tucson native here, too, and I agree!!
thanks for riding another unique part of the country! - route sure looks scenic but I don't know about that last (gravel?) section...elbow?!
Yeah, good elbow physical therapy, I reckon.
Dang, forgot the like the video, had to come back and watch it again. Very nice. Road shoes and salmon socks....
Thanks. Velocio makes the best socks
Patagonia is magical. Z&H make it happen!
Fact. Amazing folks.
NIcely done. I could have used so more video and voice over regarding the beers.
Maybe I do a beer only video. Hmm...
'the hip new place' about 20 years ago ted king. about as hip as the word gravel. a word.
Ted, great video and footage. What camera are you using for these shots?
Are those tires meant for road?
Ima bike rides also great video im from tucson bikelife u should try tuesday bike night ride
Great “fair cycling weather report”!
How have those tires held up? Which casing did you get?
Thanks for calling it out.
Tucson is rad. Great for bikes and trail running. #keeptucsonshitty
Did you cover this distance in one day, or did it take several days?
Oh, geez. One day ride, perfect.
Care to share where that dirt road is?
Link to the ride is in the video notes.
tuscon (bikepath) ftw!
I know where my next road trip is 🚲

Cycling Gates Pass solo = ⚠️ DANGER ⚠️
Why?
If you ride it before 9am on weekends, the traffic is usually pretty light.
This type of hyping up of locations adds to the gentrification and colonization of these places imo. Just say it's a cool place but is there a need to call it a "hotbed" beyond the attention grabbing title?
Good to see hipsters still spreading their pestilence everywhere…
RUGGED
No idea why you would want to do that. Tucson is a terrible place to live.
But your the Punisher
