i5-4670K AT 5GHZ OC On a $30 Air Cooler, oooolala

- Опубліковано 16 жов 2024
- Welcome back to Tech YES City this is video showing that my chip was able to overclock to 5ghz on normal conditions with a $30 air cooler (Enermax (aka Enerjizz) T40). The chip has been delidded and ambient temps were 17 degrees celcius. Also CLP was applied to the core and PK-3 was applied on the heatspreader (both with the spread method).
The motherboard used is a z87-g45 gaming, and is a great value for money board.
After playing around with settings on the bios, the core ratios did not work properly so this is a legitimate 5ghz on all cores on air. As a side note I do not recommend taking these things over 1.4v unless you have some spare change to buy another chip in case your current one bricks.
If you have any questions let me know and one good thing about this video was it opened my eyes a little bit as to why people might be getting bad overclocks on haswell, so I will make making a more in depth tutorial for you guys on how to get the most out of your Haswell chips.
Look forward to giving you guys another video soon also with a quick announce on when the live will be happening also.
De-lidded, That's the factor that makes it possible. I'm on a normal 3570k at the minute and I'm planning on upgrading to the 4770k in the very near future, I've been watching loads of delid vids but I don't know if I want to chance it myself as it's taking forever to save up for the upgrade and if I mess up replacing it would take ages, I may try delidding the 3570 first. That's probally the smart thing to do.
i am getting less than 70 degree on 4.2ghz i have hyper 212 evo.should i go 4.4?
Yeah the delid is neccessary for stability, you probably won't even get stable at 4.6 cause it will just get too hot before it can disperse the heat to the cooler properly (it was the problem I was having and it was the main reason I decided to delid).
Depends, what clock is that at?
That is just awesome. And especially using an air cooler and laughing at the $30.00 price.
And they say it can't be done. Nothing is impossible it's just imposable. Who out there is willing to do it.
Great job
Hey Brian, if I'm stable at 4.5GHz 1.215v, where should the ring ratio voltage be at? With auto ring ratio voltage I'm unstable if I bump it up to 39. This is in reference to 4 cores not 1 btw.
So, can you run your Haswell with different clocked cores? And how much is the power consumption increase for a 1.4v overclock? Poor thing must be cooking, lol.
Since the benefit from overclocks is ingame maybe 5fps, I only recommend "Overclocking with brain". There's a sweet spot where you get a good OC with no insane voltage increase. Btw. Intel says the maximum save voltage for Haswell is 1.265v. ^^
wow thats really good voltage for 4.4, when did you purchase the chip? I guess the new batch of chips are looking a lot better.
I know this is fairly off topic, but what's your preferred OS? I can't seem to decide on one for a budget gaming PC.
Thanks, 73 on just normal clocks? What ambient temps are you at? That is pretty high, today I tested 4.6 on prime just to see and I didn't even go over 60degrees.
NICE! I tried to get 4,7 @ 1.38 volts but temps go to high for me (>80°C) so my question is how much would it help to put the cooler directly on the die?
maybe i have to get some decent water cooling not sure?
Yeah, that's just at stock clocks! In idle it's at 30C. I think the room temp was normal, so like 23C-ish. I've ben told Haswell runs really hot, but this seems too hot, when I used the stock cooler it used to go up to 100C whilst playing BF3! I used Prime95 LargeFFTs for max. heat, do you think I got a bad die or is that normal?
Hey did you remove the thermal grease between the cpu chip and heatsink? You did it with your 3570K
wow, good job on getting 5GHz.
I have an i7 4770k but when I run Prime95 (large FFTs) it goes up to 73C!
Do you think it's suitable for overclocking?
I use a Macho HR-02 and a Z87X-UD3H.
Thanks!
I'd love to see that advanced guide - my haswell runs at 4.4 24/7, had it to 4.5, but I feel as if there's more there to be had, as the temps and volts are within acceptable ranges . Thanks for the work!
Thanks to your tips Bryan I got my 3570k ivy bridge to 4.6 at 1.19V maxing at 80C on Antec 920 cooler on silent mode.
Finally got a new CPU cooler. Want to overclock but I can't access the BIOS? Been having this problem for a while now, even prior the cooler install. Can't hit DEL in time, boots in to Windows in like 6 seconds and THEN my keyboards turn on. Same motherboard as yours with (4670K)
i have mine at 4.3 using your 4.2 tut in prime 95 max was 86 degrees though in aida64 stress test it never went over 70? im using scythe ashura in push pull do you think i have a more headrom
Might be better, but my temps are really good at the moment and I have cold air blowing down from the top, also I wouldn't want hot air blowing onto the back of my graphics card.
oh my, what ancient version of the YES man did I just find!
gotta say though.. you haven't aged a day. and personality wise, if anything you've become more youthful :P
though tbf maybe that's just some insanity getting to you... :P
Yeah I think that might be because of one sluggish core, hopefully I can get the guide out soon enough so you can get those other cores up to speed!
Same mobo and CPU here but with a Hyper 212 evo for air cooling. I need 1.24v to get to 4.4GHz stable (and to pass IntelBurnTestv2 @ 'Maximum' stress). Think I should try again for 4.5-4.6GHz? I did try and fail in the past. Also, is it necessary to stress test at max - the most intense thing I do is gaming.
awesome... now i m at 4.0ghz and my temps are 60 celsius tops, what should be my limit? like 65 celsius or less?
Lol this was just for fun and games, my normal OC is @ 4.6ghz. I was told by someone who works at intel that up until 1.4v is fine for the most part, however past 1.45v is when that chip can face some serious damage.
I would like do delid my chip but I'm afraid to damage it. I did watch your how to delid video but could you show us how to apply the thermal paste? That's the part that I'm not too sure about.
why am i getting these low temps ? i got my cpu to 4.4 ghz and i still not heating 70 degrees btw i lowered my voltage to 1.140 i saw it in 1 of your videos be4 it was 1.150
Yeah I will have to run some tests at 4.6ghz across various apps see what I can come up with.
Yeah see I think the ring ratio has its own sweet spot (I would have to test more, but I know having it at the same speed as your core is bad), try bumping the ring ratio up and giving it a bit more voltage, for me 4.1ghz on the ring at 1.1v is the sweet spot there, and higher and I got blue screened on my overclocks.
Should I still delid if I can max 55 degrees Celcius after 5h crysis 3 maxed out
what vcore for 4.4ghz? my mobo is z87 hd3 btw can it handle?
Yeah should be fine!
I've got the same motherboard (MSI Z87-G45 gaming) and also a Intel Core I5 4670k. I run it at 4.4 Ghz on 1.13 Volt (in CPU-Z it's 1.132V) with a Seidon 120M Liquid cooler. everyday use my temps are round 38 °C. when usage is at 100% they go up to about 58°C
Is it safe to assume 1.6v on a core 2 duo e8400 is a bad idea? (although I did get 4.8ghz)
what are your temps ?
60C max
robert graydon then i guess you have won the silicon lottery
1,6v is to damned high wtf
I will be getting a watercooler on this CPU, does this mean I will be able to OC it to 5,1GHz? And if you're gonna ask, 5,1 because my friend has a 4790K at 5GHz and i want to beat his clockspeed to show him he wasted a 100$ ;) A reply would be very much appreciated
Depends on if you won the silicon lottery or not.
i need some help with overclocking my intel i7 4790k to atleast 4.7 ghz or 4.6 i do have aio watercooling
what's the point of your 4.8 or 5 ghz overclocking? I mean you and me both know 4.7 4.8 4.9 and 5 ghz is all unstable so are you trying to show you can boot into Windows?
@@QueueTeePies who cares if he still cant use it, its still totaly unstable! You cant be sure even using 4,8ghz
Was done in the morning at 17 degrees ambient (no aircon), dunno felt like saying oooolala since it was a pretty decent achievement to get 5ghz on a $30 air cooler :P.
That's not a suicide run, i had my 4690K @1,60V with the radiator in a bucket of snow, it did XTU @ 5,1 and Super PI 1M @ 5,3GHz and it still works fine.
But please , have some mercy on that snow !
Yeah haswell's temps are mainly correlated to voltage I found.
I5 4670k @ 4.5ghz and GTX 1070 bottleneck? Is the cpu still worth it on a budget?
Nexii No bottleneck and yes it's worth it.
Im rocking GTX 1080 with i5 4670K. You will get bottlenecks only in games like Assassins Creed Origins, etc. Its still a beast!
@Mithrandir What is your Voltage? I've read so many timey that you should go over 1.25/1.3 but I can only reach 4,4ghz at 1.25V
@Mithrandir Wow! Im going to have to try to get up to 4.8 . Im steady at 4.4 on my 4670k, but I still feel like the CPU is the bottleneck. it maxed out almost all the time when playing BO4 multiplayer, with most of my settings on low ( GTX 1060 with 6GB).
At 4.4ghz Im getting a decent amount of of heat.using a Cooler Master Seidon 120XL, I sit 50-55 at idle and about 60-70 while playing. Benchmarking it , I can get up to 112, which im surprised the thermal protection didnt kick in. Ill try and redo the thermal paste and see if it helps.
Thanks, dude!
Same for yours, dude!
Great vid keep um up need more of these!!
Whats your monitor?
Thanks, Bryan!
I do as u do but when i boot up my pc its only at 3.4 ghz pls help
hey,can you send your oc profile? i really dont understand anything about overclocking.i've 4670k and g45 as you.thanks
try reseating the cooler, 212 evo should do 4.4 no problems.
Is it ok to have my CPU AT 1,400 VOLTS with a h100i and my ring voltage 1,375 at 3.60Ghz ?
intels safe voltage is 1.300v and i would not recommend passing that.
I should do what to my cpu? And how do I do it?
Why do you need a faster CPU?
The sweet spot for this haswell 4670k is 4.4 Ghz @ 1.215 volts ! ( i have it on a MSI GAMING Z87 - G45 Motherboard )
I have it running on 4.4 Ghz for almost 2 years now . Best chip i have ever bought !!!
Do you think 4.4ghz @ 1.215 volts on Z97 Gaming 5 would be good?
Every chip and motherboard is slightly different , but yes , it should be around that , maybe on yours it is on 1.210 or 1.220 volts . Just try those settings and find out , what setting works best for your setup .
Ok thanks for the response man. I've overclocked before and it just went well. Copied someones settings and my system ended up being stable.
lol, dont delid your own cpu, let silicon lottery do it with a warranty, 10 degrees C is minimum
Im able to do 4.4Ghz with 1.174v. With max 60c in stress tests. (Z87-A) There are some chips that cant even do 4.1 on 1.25v. Its all about that lottery.
Yeah it does it easy. I have the same cooler. I haven't messed with it much but whenever I try to do 4.6 it never works.
Are u in Australia?
How quite is it
Looking forward to the new Haswell overclocking tutorial
i have an air cooler "evo 212" and my 4670k is on 59°C i just watching videos, thats a good temp?
Defo not, if its at that temp simply browsing youtube , imagine the temps gaming will put it to
sorry misscliked, is 49°C temp
even then 30 - 40 is the range i would recommend
yes i was wrong XD, its only 32° xD
lol, thats a good temp :)
power supply?
Try rendering a video and see what temps you get, aida reported lower temps then me actually rendering a video (a real world task). I mean 4.4 sounds like its a good spot for your CPU. Also if you want lower temps then I recommend delidding, these things get so hot internally that delidding just helps with stability at these higher clock levels.
i have actually 2 of these, with 2 differets board, one is this one you use. I cant get higher than 4.2ghz (can boot 4.4ghz but crash in game everytime) , also on second board(cant remember name now), i got actually running 4.6ghz , but still keep crashing in game. This one is stable at 4.4ghz but my voltage is 1.555 ;( ... strange chip
Hey Brian, I haven't made a video of my build. Just took a few glamour shots. Though I could just send them to you or post them on instagram and tag you? I think you might like it. Got a Z87 Mpower with i7 4770, 16GB of Avexir core series, Kingston SSD and a big cooler from Noctua. Went with a black and yellow theme. All inside a Fractal R4 case.
I want to try it someday lol and maybe do a guide for you guys :P
Hey Brian, nice work. I would to show off my build to you if possible please?
Do the temps when playing CPU intensive games like crysis 3
I can't OC my cpu i5 3570k over 4ghz becuase it gets really hot I use Coolermaster 212 Evo
good job, dude!
try upping volts maybe?
on 0:20, its better to push the air down the other way, cuz of graphic card.
no air flow = no cooling.
i Bought it the 29th of june, so i've been running this for quite a time now.
hummm, thats kinda strange? I would think that you could get at Least 4.3GHz on that cpu.
forgot thx for the awsome videos!!! sadly i cant find the setting to oc only one core (core 0 is much cooler than the other ones)
Oh thanks for the tips and btw it seams real temp isnt trustworthy after all i runed pr95 again and monitored with core temp the max was 68
1.4 volts only tickles a FX-9590.. So inefficient
*****
Yeah unfortunately I had no say in the matter when it came to which processor I was going to get. I ended up underclocking to 1 GHz so my cooler would be quite but I might as well just be using my old DELL at that point
*****
I did not. I underclocked the AMD FX.
*****
It is possible to overclock a DELL if you have the PLL chip model. I overclocked my Optiplex 780 from 2.93 GHz to 3.2 GHz without increasing the voltage with a software overclock
*****
I believe they still update new PLL chips on it. The DELL computer I overclocked had a Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 and I have read about people overclocking the quads as well to something like 3.4 GHz with pin modding
i get 5ghz at 1.28vcore 4770k *-*
but got temp problems and im afraid of delidd ^^
nice, hope i can find something new and try with your coming guide, i've got 4670k (not delided) with H80i @ 4.5 (fixed cores) stable on just above 80 degrees celcius, but 4.6 is fuckin impossible. soon as i push the cpu over 1.22-1.25 v is goes balastic to over 90 celcius on prime95. anyway thanks dude! you helped me understand more of the z87-45 config.
Yeah sure man, post a vid then link the watch part here!
now i am even getting lower temps than it was be4 on 4.2 ghz coz i down the voltage\\?!
+Prenz T download msi fastboot and click go to bios, your pc will boot into bios now
I can't even get my 4670k to 4.5ghz! :((
i got 4ghz on 1.026volts i hope i can go higher when i get a decent mobo.
I find this hard to believe. I can't even get mine to 4.6 with the stock cooling
stock isn't worth the medal its crafted out of
lucky people. can barely get mine to 4.4 @1.4 volts
s23a700d 120hz onitor from samsung.
Where's that intermediate guide man??
now to think about it, my kingston ram run at 1.65V...
voltage kill the cpu, not heat. your getting 1.390V, thats a lot :) not sure if it will destroy your cpu in a year but I think it might have long term effects maybe...
I have it on 4,8Ghz, Its amazing, stable O_O
voltage?
i have mine at 4.8Ghz stable at 1.282 i can lower it to .1279 but i gave it a little bit extra
Don't complane guys...... My 4670K needs 1.25v to run stable at 4.2ghz......
i think i am one of the lucky ones my chip is gd!
Turn turbo boost off
Mine hits 70-80 degrees at 3.8 GHz... With a Hyper Evo 212... The fuck?
During stress testing or during gaming?
holy shitballs! mine gets those temps running prime 95 only thing is mine is at 4.5ghz
Ken Pachi Le DooD
For me those are the temps I get within seconds of starting a Prime 95, I have to rely on intel burn test to stress my system.
zwabTheRealOne Maybe its just that you had bad luck and got a crappy cpu. Don't know how long the warranty with intel is but I would get in contact with them and ask for a replacement. What is the ambient temp in your room?
zwabTheRealOne Might need to do a freshcoat of thermal paste and reseat the cooler. Clean off the thermal gunk from the CPU and heatsink, put some new stuff.
My 4670k wont even do 4.7
Hey can i get the same overclock ?
This is my spec,
Case: Antec ISK600M.
PSU: Antec HCP 1000 Platinum.
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97MX Gaming 5.
Memory Ram: DDR3 Kingston HyperX Savage 2 x 8 Go @ 2400 MHz CAS 11.
CPU: Intel Haswell Core i5 4690K
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H80i.
Graphics Card: Zotac GTX 980 Ti AMP Extreme Edition 6 Go.
Storage: SSD Crucial MX100 512 Go SATA III + Seagate Barracuda 3 To SATA III 64 Mo @ 7200 trs/min.
Monitor: 28" Acer XB280HK G-Sync UHD 4K.
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits.
I would not recommend it. I have the same CPU with H100i cooler. So fairly simular to yours. I have been able to run 4.8GHz at on all cores, but not stable. And no luck with a singel core running 5GHz at 1.4V. Such a high voltage is very risky, as it has no problem rising to 100+ degrees C. with prime 95 or AIDA 64. I'm running at 4.5Ghz at 1.23V at the moment which is very stable, so you don't have to worry about getting to high temperature or crash under load.
1337ghomri my bios shows for 3.5ghz 1.1v so for 4.5ghz 1.23v is like v8 engine running on scooter carburetor :D
I have mi i5 4670k @4.6 with 1.195VCore with 212 EVO
+Alfredo López Max temps?
80°C under full load and 33°C idle
I know I got a great chip
cheap motherboards (under $100) dont overclock well
WOW, 30 bucks.
maybe its your motherboard
eu consegui 4.4 Ghz com 1.280 V no meu 4670k + Um H100i
WOW!
Achei q ia mandar um faala galera
Hi! I have the following specs, can i overclock? pcpartpicker.com/user/merlek/saved/xHLp99
Merlek Wow that is a shit price for that build, and good luck running an OC on that mobo.
