Hey Food Box HQ Family! Today we're unboxing and reviewing Lomi, a remarkable little home composter.
After using Lomi for a few months now, I can confidently say that this compact home composter packs a powerful punch. Its ability to break down food scraps by applying heat over several hours and subsequently drying them out is pretty impressive.
Lomi offers three distinct modes: Eco Express, Grow Mode, and Lomi Approved Mode. Eco Express rapidly reduces waste for composting, Grow Mode produces nutrient-rich organic fertilizer, and Lomi Approved Mode specializes in breaking down specific products and packaging. Particularly, Grow Mode, which operates at the lowest heat setting, is perfect for individuals lacking access to green bins or outdoor composters.
One standout feature of Lomi is its activated charcoal inserts, which effectively control unpleasant odors. Surprisingly, these work very well at cutting all smells when the machine is running and when the top is on.
The machine efficiently grinds and dries various food scraps like lemon halves, avocado shells, coffee grinds, onion peels, and more. Unlike some other composters, Lomi provides clear instructions on what can and cannot be composted, making it extremely user-friendly.
If you're worried about the smell like I was, don't.The inclusion of charcoal inserts significantly contain odors. In fact, unless I open the lid, I can't smell anything.
However, it's important to consider a few downsides. The lid design of Lomi can be a bit finicky and requires precise alignment to lock properly (as you can see in some parts of the video). Additionally, due to its larger size, Lomi eats up valuable countertop space for placement (which is why we have ours in a room other than our kitchen). Also, if you have the outdoor space or need more compost, this little device may not be the best option for you.
Lastly, it is worth noting that the initial price of the Lomi composter is around $500, with refill pods and charcoal costing an additional $50.
If you have any questions about Lomi, feel free to leave them in the comments below. We're here to help!

Hey Em! Another fabulous video and I LOVE the new style of the videos! That Lomi sounds really cool...wish it wasn't so expensive BUT I definitely see the appeal. I wonder if it's on Amazon and you can make payments? Thanks again!

Thank you!! Yep I've seen it on amazon amzn.to/3IT3CQA
Still expensive :/. A lot of these home composters are a few hundred bucks, hopefully they come down in price as they become more popular.

@@FoodBoxHQ That would be great b/c we JUST started composting here at our apartment this year and it's been working wonders on the plants! So to get it even FASTER composted would be amazing!

You mentioned that you use it weekly, do you store the food waste inside the unit or do you have to use a separate container?

Don't put the "dirt" in plants, it hardens and molds.

It’s great for houses with septic tanks. You can’t put food down septic tanks

The amount of carbon to make that contraption and than the amount of energy for it to do it's job . I don't know if that is beneficial for the eco system in anyway. Seems gimmicky.

If you have the ability to have an outdoor compost, I definitely recommend that instead. For those in apartments, this could be beneficial.
