The speed of rendering would depend on your GPU, how many samples you're rendering at, and the size/complexity of your scene

Not really. MI2 has a better rendering system so it will take longer to render. Lowering the samples is the easiest way to reduce rendering time, but may produce lower quality results.
If your computer has a dedicated GPU, you can try settings to make sure MI is using the GPU. I have a video on that here: ua-cam.com/video/t2nDkd8ec8M/v-deo.html
