  • In this video, I explained the operation principle of a YIG tuned oscillator and demonstrated the tuning of an HP 5086-7023 YIG oscillator (2.7 GHz to 4.2 GHz). www.kerrywong.com/2020/10/16/p...
    Check out www.kerrywong.com/2014/08/03/w... for a teardown of the YIG oscillator used in the Wavetek 907 microwave signal generator.

    From what I’ve read, YIG Spheres can be tuned up to 50GHz.

    What is the voltage/current range on the FM coil?
    The -10 bias. Is it -10 relative to +20v ground?

    • @KerryWongBlog
      @KerryWongBlog  3 роки тому +2

      The FM coil current range is similar to that of the main coil, up to 200mA or so.

    Accelerated/discellerated charged particles in a material, emit specific electromagnetic waves.
    I wonder if it works the other way around, reverse causality.
    Those specific electromagnetic waves would be absorbed in the material, as negative lumincess, causing accelerated charged particles.
    Do quartz generate second harmonics in the microwave range, as well?
    Do yattirium iron garnet is an anisotropic resonator, or isotropic resonator?
    Is being anisotropic resonator, makes this material special?

    Thank you Kerry for sharing this video, when I am measuring the YIG oscillators, I found out that if I connect a DMM into the FM tuning circuit in series will contribute to serious phase noise, do you think there is any method to isolate the DMM while measuring phase noise?

    • @KerryWongBlog
      @KerryWongBlog  6 місяців тому +1

      Perhaps you could try using a current probe?

    I'm wondering if the frequency changed much with orientation?

    • @KerryWongBlog
      @KerryWongBlog  3 роки тому +1

      The frequency doesn't change in any measurable way as the environmental magnetic field is very weak. However, YIGs are supposed to be mounted only in the way that is specified by the manufacturer (in this case it is vertical) as there are delicate components inside that may be damaged if mounted incorrectly due to external forces such as vibrations, etc.

    Please.
    Can someone explain how the -10dc biasing was done?
    He connected the( +)10dc terminal to the (- )of the 20v output on the power supply?
    Or
    He used an offset function on the power supply?
    I don't understand.
    Its -10bias relative to what?
    In other words, where is the other terminal of the -10bias, to create a loop with?
    I do understand that -10 is the mean average of a square wave with an offset of -20.

    • @KerryWongBlog

      Hi David, the +/- bias are with respect to ground (pin 8)
