I am 73 years old and have been using the Svea 123r since the 1960's. I figured out a neat way to start it. Just tear off a small piece of paper towel, toilet paper will not work. Roll it long ways between your fingers. Then open the fuel cap and dip the rolled paper towel into the ful and let it soak up some gas. Put the rolled paper towel in the preheating cup, being careful not to let it get near the fuel cap so you don't burn the o ring. Jut light it and open the vaqlve when it gets hot. That way you don't have fuel running down the outside of the stove.

I have two M1950 stoves that I just ordered some spare parts for from OldColemanParts like you suggested. Super service. Camp fuel is $22 a gallon up here in Canada. I am trying to build up a stockpile of fuel for all the stoves and lanterns I seem to be finding. Great test, but I would go Coleman, unless weight was a big issue. Thank you for the video, Brandon.. Nice brass polishing.

Thank you! They are indeed both good stoves, each has their plus and minus, agree with you on the coleman if weight isnt an issue. And 22 a gal, wow, I thought coleman fuel being 13 a gal was spendy, yikes. Thank you for watching!

I have svea stove for 50 years, still nothing wrong with it.still use white gas premium [93-94 octave] unleaded. Didn't clog my tiny hole.didnt reccomend you try it.
Now I'm using Coleman gas from now on. You really needs a very very tiny pin to clear nozzle.
    Still no problem at all.
Highly recommended to buy this forever. *****[5 stars]

I got the 1943 coleman military 520 that is the one before the shiny 530 , I got at the swap meet for $5 because the big knob was frozen... got it loose and it works perfect now!...It is bigger than the svea but almost triples the fuel capacity and I heard it can run for 3hrs on one tank full... treasured time pieces that I still use! cool video!

One of the best demo videos I have seen, I have the Coleman 502 it is a great stove. Both of your stove are very good stoves it all depends on the users needs. I myself would go for the Coleman military style 530, yet as the old saying goes; beauty in on the eye of the beholder. Gracias for a very well presented video.

My Svea 123 rocket is still going strong after 47 years. Only thing I replaced was the gasket on the filler cap in the 90's.

If you add the eight seconds that the coleman got as a head start to the other stove, i think you will find they ended about even.

You're supposed to use the tip cleaner to control the flame on the coleman. That value is just a on off for the fuel. The tip cleaner regulates gas flow.

Hi there from a South African living in Switzerland .. just happened upon your Channel.
    A great review 👍 .. thanks.
Both are beautiful stoves .. in my opinion, one more of a 'Base Camper' and the other for out on the Trail (the SVEA traditionally the 'Stove that Climbers Loved to Hate' 😁).
Born 1950 .. I love 'Old School' .. and that 'Roar' is Music to the Ears.
My first intro (in You Tube) to the Coleman was via the (fellow) 'Old Timer' in 'Logcabinlooms' .. and which really piqued my interest therein.
I have the SVEA's Sister .. the Optimus 8R Hunter (same Burner Mechanism). Bought new in the late 70's (Camp and Climb, Braamfontein, Johannesburg S.A.) .. in regular use and still going strong. The only maintenance ever was the replacement of the Graphite Gasket in the Burner Control Stuffing Box.
In fact .. watching this Video .. after the Pooch has had her Walk .. I'm going to rustle up a Brunch with the 8R on my 3rd floor flat balcony looking out on the Rhine.
😏 .. I have a Forest right behind me .. however, weekends it gets to be quite busy .. even more so with the current Covid Lockdown and all 🙄. Being retired, I have the week at my disposal for the simple pleasures 😊.
    Take care ..

Phew! Thought for a moment the old Coleman was going to be outdone but American design and manufacture won through. The grand old beauty is as classy as ever. USA! USA! The Svea is not bad though.

The Stanley Adventure cook set works really well with the Svea 123. On other stoves, the Primus 96 for example, I find the pan supports are a bit too far apart to support the Stanley pot safely. As for boil time...who cares - it is a great stove which is very easy to use. If you do want to compare, I think using the same pot for each test would be better test for boil times.

The stanley cooksets are among my favourite to use, as for the boil time thing, just thought it would be something fun and to try them with the cups they came with originally. was fun making this vid though and thank you for watching these two ole gals that can still perform amazingly!

I was concerned that making that much noise might have alerted the enemy during WWII.
With that rocket noise, now I see they would have run for cover
