    A huge thanks for your videos in general, but this one was the best! My 92 Polaris 350L would only run on half choke. After viewing your video on Mikuni carb cleaning, maybe 10 times, I worked up the neve to try it. Your instuctions were clear. My Polaris runs better than new! I particularly liked your cleaning of the outside of the carb first to prevent carb from dirt and grime later. Again thanks, I owe you big time Ken

    You can just adjust the idle with the idle adjustment screw on the side of the carb. It is a large phillips screw with large ridges on it. Turn it in (clockwise) to raise rpm.
    Adjusting the needle will mess up the tune. Raising the needle will richen the fuel air mixture as you are revving it up. If it is too rich it will foul spark plugs easily.

  • @sixtyfiveford
    @sixtyfiveford  11 років тому +1

    The needle has a rubber tip to seal. Make sure the floats are moving. With the carb in half you can also pour gas into the bowl and make sure they float good. The float lever tab could be adjusted to high. To adjust bend the tab that touches the needle top up so that the floats press harder and engage sooner.

    If starter fluid won't make it fire it can only be a few things; your spark plug is fouled/shorted, engine flooded or you have low compression. I would guess the plug or flooded. Pull the plug and turn it over half a dozen times and install a new or cleaned spark plug (clean by heating the tip of the plug to cherry red with a propane torch).

    Been doing this stuff for 45 years (or more) and just had my carb appart for a cleaning and I ended up with a spare washer!
    i'm like WTF???
    Watched your vid and noticed they had a washer/spacer btw the main jet and the part it screwed into.
    Good vid brother. Thanks for taking the time to make it.

    The big washer is probably from the air box. It mounts between the frame and the air box and is held in place with one of the 10mm bolts.

  • @sixtyfiveford
    @sixtyfiveford  11 років тому

    Permatex #2.
    It just has a 2 on it and says gasket sealant. You can find it at any auto parts store.
    This is the only thing that I have found that is fuel resistant. Put it on and let it tack up. It will turn to a tar like constancy and seal up your bad gasket. Put the bowl back on and you should be good to go( I usually like to let it sit for a few hours before exposing it to gas).

    Yeah, these floats are a rare one. I think it allows for a skinnier carb by not having to deal with the arc angle of a float.

  • @sixtyfiveford
    @sixtyfiveford  11 років тому +1

    At 3:40 I am spraying out the "seat" and at 4:02 I am holding the "needle". If your carb is leaking out then the needle and seat aren't sealing. This can be because the float is sticking, debris on the seat/needle or the needle tip is bad.
    Shifting: All 250 Trailblazers I have ridden take a good 3-5 seconds to let the engine idle down before you can shift. If it jerks when you shift it into gear or is hard to get out of gear then your idle speed is set to high.

    Going to hit this sucker tonight. Just bought a 92 Trail Boss 250 4X4 yesterday. Bogs and will only stay running at low RPM with feathering. Hoping a good cleaning will do the trick.

      MolonLabeUSA Sounds like a dirty main jet.

    • @MolonLabeUSA
      @MolonLabeUSA 9 років тому

      sixtyfiveford puked it all apart and cleaned, and the Idol jet was fully plugged. Cleaned it out with some copper wire and carb spray and it made a big difference. Ran and idled. But, not it's hard to start until it warms up a lot it just randomly bogs and dies. Really want to figure this out.

    • @sixtyfiveford

      These do suffer when the engine compression gets too low. They will have a lot of symptoms that are hard to trace.

    I bought two cheap four wheels old and beat up i have been casually been fixing them on slow boring days but one problem i have had is finding the right choke setting.

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  10 років тому

      There's really no setting the choke. It is either on or off. As far as starting when cold. The choke should be on and do not press the throttle at all. Once the engine fires then you can give it a little gas.

    great instructions.. i have a 1986 polaris 250 after that was said and done on cleaning the carb there is a line that they say is a vacume line next to the idle screw that when i turn it on fuel comes out of there like crazy and spills everywhere. and the carb where the air intake goes had fuel coming out of it as well.????

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  9 років тому

      +John Tsarnas Sounds like your float is sticking and not sealing the needle seat.

  • @sixtyfiveford
    @sixtyfiveford  11 років тому

    That wouldn't have anything to do with leaking, but it should move freely. The cable needs a little lubrication.

    Hi, I just picked up a 2002 Trailblazer 250 that has been in storage since the summer of 2002 after only One 4hr ride by a woman who it was bought for who watched her husband flip his quad that day and get hurt badly. She never rode it again. Anyway, It obviously needs the carb cleaned. I have cleaned many many carbs of all types. Last time I did one on a T-blazer was 8 yrs ago. So my question is just removing the carb. I remember having to remove alot of the bodywork to get to it. Was just hoping you could remind me just what needs to come off and the order just to save me some time and grief. Thanks, Ian

    Question for you about the bowl gasket. Today I took apart the carb of a cheap bike motor to clean the float valve, and the gasket was deteriorated and some of the material was in the bowl. I removed/cleaned off the gasket. Now for my question. Can I use silicone liquid gasket for the bowl gasket? There is no way I can make a paper one because of the intricate shape. Thanks in advance.

I could be wrong. the only thing i did notice is that the throttle valve takes longer to drop back down once i let go of thumb throttle,like it is sticking have you any idea wtf it could be?

    Yes sir High watched your video did everything just like what you doing what I have is a trailblazer two-stroke it’s a 1999 looks quite a bit like what you have there I realized after watching your video that my small little air mixture screw was completely gone spring screw everything so I bought a kit because for some reason I couldn’t get a carburetor for two stroke they just kept saying for stroke so I bought me a kit I just put that on today watched your video again and I am getting nothing I do get spark come to my spark plug I am getting fuel to cause a spark plug is usually pretty wet but I noticed I don’t have that oil line for the two-stroke going in right in the side of the carburetor mine goes in to the combustion chamber right underneath the carburetor Is there anything you can add to that to my situation

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  3 роки тому

      If the plug is wet it's flooding the engine and will not start. To unflood the engine you can pull the spark plug, no choke, full throttle and crank the engine over for 5 seconds. Once a 2 stroke spark plug is fouled it has to be cleaned to work. This can be done by heating the tip red hot with a propane torch, or alternately cleaning it manually with carb cleaner and letting it dry.

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  9 років тому

      averyty96 These are picky about compression and if it is too low they won't start. Put a little(1 tsp) gas down the throat of the carb or in the spark plug hole to see if it will start and run for a few seconds. If not pour a little motor oil(1 tsp) into the spark plug hole. This will raise the compression for a few seconds and allow it to start/run if everything else is good.

    Hey good vid. I got a question you might know. I have a 2001 trailblazer 250. And I’ve rebuilt the carb twice. Atv was sitting for 6 years. First time I cleaned carb, lines tank everything perfectly and found it idles perfect when cold never needs the chock to start but after 20 minutes of riding vehicle had perfect top end but won’t idle and dies like it’s running out of gas then takes a while to start. After cooling down starts up perfect. Rebuild the carb again but replaced all jets, seals, gaskets and needles and retested. Verified the fuel lines were clean and had proper fuel flow but after 20/25 minutes of riding or when getting hot it’s dies like it runs out of gas at idle. I have to keep hitting the throttle to keep it alive at idle. Air screw is at spec, have proper spec fuel. Clean air filter and found the fuel take is not creating a vacuum either. I don’t know what to do anymore. I took it to a Polaris dealer and they said they couldn’t get it to duplicate and gave it back. Any thots

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  2 роки тому +1

      Dieing/running problems when hot can be a few things. Ethanol in fuel can cause this due to it's much lower boiling point. Essentially causing vapor lock. Spark issues from overheating coil can also cause hot running issues. A carb set too lean will cause an engine to run significantly hotter than normal.

    • @UpLoadedFromMyiPhone
      @UpLoadedFromMyiPhone 2 роки тому

      @@sixtyfiveford After verifying the coil and magneto were operating normally and are with in spec of what the service Manuel specified I got it figured out. I Performed a compressing test when cold and hot. I have 116 psi when cold then it drops to 98psi as soon at the engine reaches temps over 140°. The cylinder or cylinder rings are losing lots of compression at idle when hot. Gonna have to rebuilt. Thanks for your info and help.

    Awesome Video! Thanks. couple questions... 03 trailblazer 250... carb is identical to yours. I took it apart mainly because it just keeps leaking gas, even when it's sitting. I have a hunch it may be the needle and seat from what I read. My question is what parts are they and how do you know if they need replacing? Next, I have to wait a little longer than normal to shift from High into Reverse because it idles down slowly. I did notice one float is less freely moving. Thanks a LOT!

    I Have a question for you. I am tiring to get my 250 running and I have rebuilt the carb as per your video (outstanding job) after installing it correctly and tried to start it I could get it to start and it would start and only idle, if I give it any throttle it will just die out and then hard to start after that, So what else I can do or should I check?

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  10 років тому

      Your symptoms are the Main Jet. It probably picked up something from the fuel line or tank once you reinstalled it. Remember to give it ZERO gas when starting it. The choke circuit doesn't function if the throttle is even pushed a little.

    Hey, thank you for posting this video. I just cleaned out my carb. Now when I give it has, it bogs down when I punch the gas. Have you ever had that problem? How did you fix?
    Thanks!

      Bryant Woody This would signify that the main jet isn't delivering enough fuel to the engine. It is more than likely partially clogged.

    What is the hose from the engine to the carb called? The carb has been rebuilt but it seems to wanna choke out after your going 25 or so....also it almost dies when try to go in reverse. Any ideas? Thanx

    My 01 trailblazer is leaking gas through the exhaust. Any tips on whats going on. Also not related to the video, but i can pull start it pretty easy but it will not electric start. It turns over well and has a full battery, but just wont start unless pull started.

      Evan Schmidt Good chance the needle/seat in the carb aren't seating and a little gas is pooling up. Pull your spark plug and look at it. If it's dry and black then too much gas is going through the engine. The starters are notorious for getting water in them and either not working or turning too slow.

      It's been a while since I've been inside the gear box on one of these. First I would make sure the linkage isn't binding or the plastic fender isn't pushing on the lever. Other than that there should be a detent ball that holds it in high inside the transmission.

      Float/needle has some debris that aren't allowing it to close fully.

    @sixtyfiveford I can start my engine and everything but I have to give it lots of gas and I can’t let it idle or it dies. I have to keep my hand on the throttle so it won’t bog down or it just will quit. Any tips?

      Your idle circuit in the carb is clogged

    1991 Polaris Trail Boss 250 4x4. Rebuilt carburetor but won’t start on its own without spray.. should I take apart and clean it all again. I put it back just like you have. When I got it it none of the vacuum hoses were connected. I have no idea where they go. Not sure if that is why it won’t start. Thoughts.?

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  7 років тому

      The hoses are just vents and really not that important. As far as not wanting to start. The Choke system on these require that the throttle be fully closed to function. So flip the choke on, don't touch the throttle and attempt to start. Once it fires you can press the throttle to rev it.

    • @inkedgypsy9802

      sixtyfiveford thanks. Took it all apart again o.O sprayed it all out everywhere. Took forever to start with the pull start rode it around the yard 20ish min. Turned off tried to start again. Nothing. Pushed into the garage threw my arms up. Dunno if the choke needs to be adjusted or what. But since the starter has a short and lazy to take everything apart to get to it, pull starting is the way to go right now :(. Stuck. Not sure what to do.

    Hey quick question i did everything in this video and for some reason i put it back together and would not start, so i replaced the spark plug but nothing and suggestions would be awesome thank you

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  10 років тому

      Try a squirt of gas in the carb throat to isolate whether it is a fuel or spark issue.

      rollpaper1026 As far as the idle setting, just adjust it until it idles good but not to high where you grind when shifting into gear.

      Ka'Nyetria Tellis You need Spark, Fuel and enough Compression for an engine to run. So check for spark. Then check for fuel by pouring a LITTLE into the throat of the carb and see if it runs for a second. Finally would be to do a compression test to see if the engine is to worn.
