  • Today I'll be taking a first look and test ride of BMC's new 2020 roadmachine all rounder road bike.
    The roadmachine is part of BMC's endurance road bike series, and is more specifically known as their one-bike collection. This bike has fast aero properties, a lightweight sub 900g frame, balanced compliance, and fits tires up to 33mm, so it really is a perfect solution for those who like to ride and perform on a variety of terrain.
    Some of the biggest changes to the 2020 model is the increased tire clearance so this bike can be easily ridden on gravel and even CX races. In addition, the power transfer has been improved.
    I ordered one of these bikes (the 02 version) for myself and have been eagerly awaiting for it's arrival. In the meantime, I'm gonna take this bad boy out for a test ride and share my initial ride impressions riding in the beautiful town of Montecatini Italy.

    I've just recently bought a new BMC in a 54cm where I was a 56cm on a previous Trek Emonda I had. The 54cm on a BMC TeamMachine is still a 55cm TT Length which is closer to a common 56 than a 54. More important as well is that in my experience BMC don't do a 56 size, only 54 and 57. As all the geometry and details are usually achieved across all brands, if anyone is considering buying a new BMC (especially when coming from other brands), just ensure you get across the differing sizes.

    • @TwoWheelCruise

      Good to know. I'm definitely right between sizes, but noticed the bmc TT is usually a bit longer

Personally it became slightly easier to imagine it as I just had my first carbon bike ride experience just today :p I do wish for a special ride feel like this bike. Hope you're still enjoying your BMC. I bought the 02 three for the 2018 model year. It's a Shimano 105 bike. I just installed Sram etap on it. It took me a couple days to sort out but it was absolutely worth it. Its unbelievably good. I'll never be in a position to buy a top spec bike so I have to upgrade as I go.

    You have have done a good job showcasing the BMC bikes. I have all Specialized bikes (except for a Peloton which actually belongs to my daughter) right now including a 2020 Allez Sprint Limited Addition Frame but I am really liking the BMC bikes. The simple paint jobs are a welcome break from the busy Specialized paint schemes. I am really enjoying your vlogs the ones with your wife especially since it shows that we don't have to hammer every time we head out. We need more women in the Peloton to break of the boring guys club.

    I went from a 56 to a 54 a few years ago. Still ride the 56 occasionally but prefer the feel of the 54. It just feels faster, lighter and more nimble. I did add a longer stem. It seems my center of gravity is a bit lower also which, for me, means faster cornering.

    Great review. So jealous, the routes on your Italian trip looked awesome. Narrow bars are the trend now, the days of bike a setup with 42 centre to centre handlebars are long gone. Most road bikes these days are going 40 or 38 centre to centre, due to better bike fits, aero advantage and better for riding in a tight pelotons when racing in crits.

    • @TwoWheelCruise

    I used to ride a 54cm Scott road bike but I just upgraded to a size 52 SuperSix Evo and feel I'm able to control the bike much better. That Sram eTap AXS gruppo looks awesome but it's too expensive :( I could buy 2 Supersix Evos for the price of just the groupset 😅

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  5 років тому +2

      The smaller size felt really responsive and aggressive, I liked it a lot but still want some bigger bars. Agreed on the groupset, regular ultegra for my budget for now 😅

    • @rainZSlayer
      @rainZSlayer 5 років тому

      Two Wheel Cruise Even ultegra was a bit out of budget. Got a good deal on last year's Evo model with 105. Coming from a Claris, even 105 feels like Dura Ace to me. It helps that I've never ridden Dura ace 🤣

    • @nimaforoughi7266
      @nimaforoughi7266 5 років тому

      Two Wheel Cruise I’m deep into the 11-speed range right now, so I’m going to reuse the groupsets when I get a new frame set. The electronic gearing today is very close to perfect for me, so there has to be a big shift in technology or materials to make me consider an upgrade. Or old parts have to become really expensive. Note that the 105 octalink bb bearing costs as much as the Dura Ace 9100 bb, in Norway mind you. That’s about 20 years difference.

    • @rainZSlayer
      @rainZSlayer 5 років тому

      Nima Foroughi Don't all the modern Shimano road groupset use hollowtec bb now? My Scott with the previous gen claris had octalink and by that time sora and upwards had moved onto hollowtec. Shimano revised claris last year and brought it up to their current standards.

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  5 років тому +1

      modern 105 is really good.. I'd be perfectly happy with that, but I like the frame color on the ultegra build a lot more so I'm splurging a bit 😅

    Hey, great video! I have one of these and I am also into Gravel cycling. I have my eye on the URS but obviously it is quite a lot of money. Do you think this bike with 32mm tires would make a decent gravel experience?

  • @jamesclemons18
    @jamesclemons18 5 років тому +1

    Seems like everyone is using the same wind tunnel these days. Dropped seat stays, proprietary D-seat posts and integrated stems are popping up on every high end road bike. Placing a bunch of them side by side would be interesting. I run Ultegra Di2 on my Roubaix. I love it to death, but replacing one little wire tends to be drop-dead expensive. (Don't be swapping stems in a big hurry! LOL) Peace. The Adventure Continues....

    • @TwoWheelCruise

      If I were to go electric, I'd much rather go with sram and not deal with all the wires.. Still on cables for me though unfortunately..

      but BMC was quite an early bird on todays frame designs (see 2017 models)

  • @potstab2875
    @potstab2875 5 років тому

    What I am really waiting for, are thru axles and a trickle down of better rotor technology. The cooling fin tech on the high end shimano looks promising. Not that I really need a new bike though. That bike is super clean, but I would be concerned about the electronic sifters. What happens when you cannot get a recharge, the bike becomes a boat anchor? Gravel bikes have a more laid back geometry, a "snappy" bike is not usually preferred most people want a "forgiving" frame. A cross bike maybe.

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  5 років тому

      I was skeptical about the electric shifters as well, but they last really long and give plenty of warning before a recharge is due

    I’m happy for you! I’m guessing you’re getting a discount since you’re working for them, but I doubt it was cheap anyway. Please review your own RM after getting used to it and after, let’s say, 15000km and after 5years if you’re keeping it that long. I can see the wear on my own 5/6 year old BMC and I’m curious as how yours will hold up. One thing I’m seeing is some rust around some of the rivets in the carbon. Not unusual, but I think I’ll Adress it before it starts damaging the carbon through expansion from corrosion.

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  5 років тому +1

      I would say it's better in certain ways (more clearance + power transfer), but no need to upgrade if you're happy with your current bike

      I've got a previous generation rmo1 3, I feel the original is more road biased, the new one is jumping on the gravel road band wagon, maybe compromising some road usage, personally I only ride on the road so the new features are no interest to me, love the original

    If you said the larger size is more stable at speed, why would you decide on the smaller size?

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  4 роки тому

      more compact and agile. Most pro riders go down a size.

      Hi, sorry, all of the first gen Roadmachines had their initial UCI approval revoked, due to the seat tube being less than 25mm deep, in sideview, at the rear wheel cutout. That’s been changed for the 2020 model.

    • @TwoWheelCruise

      it can be yeah, but most people don't need that expensive of a bike. Racers will generally spend at least 3k on a bike though
