I was actually in TX on that date! visiting relatives (we came from IL) and I was 12 yrs old, 7th grade, had a flu strain and terribly sick. my mom's dear cousins took good care of me. and sadly, I did not know the Grateful Dead at that point in my life! not till I was a teen and my friend wore a Grateful Dead Tshirt to school, forty yrs ago! but got into them as soon as I came to N. California!
not the best version I ever saw, but I saw quite a few in the late '60's-mid-eighties.. I always thought Jer was at his best on this type of "western" tune, where he just picks throught the song; and I always loved him playing that travis bean guitar!
Wow. This was part of the ‘77 NYE run. This is Me and My Uncle!!! You’ve either: -never heard the Dead play this song -never heard the Dead. Mickey hart didn’t ruin anything. This is a wonderful version of this tune. Half time with classic ‘77 Bobby/Jerry?! Either you don’t like the dead or you don’t like music.
I’m in a GD tribute band and have played over 250 shows with just the band I’m in, let alone the dozen others. How is it you are so insulted to say this amazing band playing this proper version: “sucks”? What about it sucks. Your beef seems to be with Mickey and not this version of M&MU
Jerry Garcia was plain awful. Today, Dead and Co. play even worse despite John Mayer. What benefit is there playing down from his capabilities? Something stinks about this whole operation then as it does, now with massive corporate branding to do what exactly? Sorry. Garcia, a heroin addict, was allowed to wallow in his own filth, sold as hippies and freedom and anti-establishment when the Dead were none of that. Lazy, lazy, lazy. No real strength. Soy boy stuff. For real muscles, one must look to Weather Report, the ultimate jam band.
I really enjoyed 70/80's Dead as well as Hendrix, some Nirvana, most Alice in Chains and Clapton. Most on Herion I believe. Most people drink, smoke weed etc. Art is art. You like or you don't, so curiously, why did you go to this video and comment? I'm not saying your right or wrong, just curious. Have a beautiful morning 🌄
I so much love this song… They sound so good, what a band…✌️
My favorite performance of this song hands down, has a crazy disco feel
That ‘77 bounce
@@tompoynton that was Mickey's influence. I can't stand it in songs like this and Cassidy. Still '77 is one of my favorite years.
I like daydream uncle better
Yeah. The drummers play in fours and the guitars play in twos.
Damn fine tune. Covering this with some of my best friends in the world was definitely one of the best things I've done musically.
good god what a sweet performance
Love this so much can't wait to share it with my grandchildren...
77', what a great fucking year!
Forever grateful!

The awesome music lives on!

a hollow jack and the winner takes the hand?
Dale G. It’s “high-low jack” check Dead.net for official lyrics.
@@daleg.9673 It's usually called "setback" now.
such a great version of this tune
Bluegrass disco with two drummers? Interesting...
Sucks. Leave it to Hart to influence the ruining of a classic.

Still find it hard to equate this with John Phillips
Can't hear Phil 😢
Nothin’ like a Dead Show
Me and my uncle
Yeah, it was '77 that I 'got' it
👌
🍻
Dang if I wasn't there near the front.
oh hey
Bobby fucked up the words...but he still left his dead ass there by the side of the road.
I think sunshine daydream uncle is way better but this isn’t too bad

Sure rip on Jerry but leave out Jaco bombed out of his mind murdered (never solved) in his hometown
@@jamescullen4415 Yes, Jaco's case was solved.
Why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel?

Well, that’s like your opinion, man.
