The ever so GREAT Ignacio Berroa, 'and friends' ! ... I saw this wonderful 'instructional' video when it first came out ( ... yes, when 'videos' WERE actually VIDEO - TAPES!) thanks to a drummer friend / housemate who worked at Billy Hyde's drum store in Sydney bringing it home for us all to dig. It certainly WAS 'instructional', and was my first real introduction to Afro-Cuban music, particularly as fused with contemporary jazz. It is easy to put Danilo Perez at the front of the title now, but this was definitely Ignacio's show. The whole thing is 'gold', and introduced me to all these wonderful players. When I saw a copy of Perez' "The Journey" in a Cairns second-hand shop a year later, I knew it was coming home with me - I even 'fought' my partner for it, who intuitively plucked it out of the stack while I was rifling for more, saying "this looks like it'll be good" - 25 years later, it still IS !
There's not a player in this session that can't carry a band all by himself- you can just feel the confidence they have in themselves and each other...
The music of Faso is an inexhaustible source of sweetness. It allows us to plunge deep inside ourselves and at the same time resonate with our fellow man, Yé Lassina Coulibaly❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
When Changuito kicks in, a whole new beauty and colors and aggressive sounds, is developed. This is--by all means-- no bull shit folks. He knew percussion better than anyone out there, he was natural and creative. Changuito would squeezed unheard beats out his timbale!! What a master !!
Wow! This is beyond excellent- its terrifying. No wasted energy but the rocket takes off. And just when I couldn't take it anymore, Changuito takes it to a whole new level.
