Very nice colourful take on this region. I find it hard enough processing images and I'm not colour blind! - certainly would never know it from your wonderful images.
Hey Russell! - Beautiful end image mate, nice to have a few chill sessions! I didn't know about your colour blindness, that must throw up lots of unique challenges. Keep up the great work, and pre-congratulations on 1000 subscribers mate!! :-) ATB Luke
Loved the final image, starless was so cool.. sometimes just going out and imaging and not having to worry about cameras and getting a shot for the video is just what is needed to clear the mind and just help to relax... Great video. Clear Skies..
Thanks very much mate, really appreciate. Yeah it was actually pretty nice not to have to worry about making a video, although I did the regret after I had packed away the scope
Great image Russell! I would have never guessed you were color blind. One tip for handling magenta/purple colors in SHO images. Remember that the opposite of magenta is green. So you can invert the image.. then use the SCNR tool to remove green, then invert the image back. You can also apply masks/range masks to the inverted image or use curves to control the green instead of the scnr tool. Great for creating subtle transitions between colors.
I love your take on this image Russell, colors and all! I think as photographers and artists we have the leeway to make subtle changes to color palettes as long as they are tasteful and this is awesome! Grats on almost hitting 1k subs and thanks so much for the shout out!
Thanks very much mate, really appreciate it. You’re welcome, that video really helped, especially as I struggle so much with the colours 😂 cheers mate, Can’t quite believe I’m close to 1k subs
I liked the final image quite a bit! The starless did seem to be a little too saturated on the left of the image, imo...but you knocked it back nicely on the final. Excellent osprey images too...I really like those a lot!
Thank you very much, really appreciate it 👍 yes, I have a tendency to push the colours slightly too much, so often just knock it back in lightroom slightly
What a fantastic shot Russell, so long as you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters! And your Ospreys shot are incredible mate! Great work, keep it up! Soon hitting1k subs and we’ll deserved 👍
Great shot mate! I too am learning the same. One tip: to get rid of the magenta stars, you can invert the image and then do an SCNR on the green channel (inverse magenta = green) then in-invert it back again and it should be gone. There’s also a script called “dark structure enhancement” (or something close - can’t quite remember) which does a great job of bringing out the shadows/structure towards the end of processing, Pixinsight is such a massive app, but I’m finding the more I use it the more comfortable I am becoming…
Thanks very much Duncan, thanks so much for the tips I’ll give them a go. A few people have mentioned inverting the image and running SCNR for the stars. I’ve never heard of dark structure enhance though, so thanks. I really appreciate it 👍
There is a process under scripts, utilities, called correct megenta stars. Run that script as is and it will correct the pinkish hue of your stars in this image to a more natural color
Im in the middle processing a close up of the Butterfly and having a hard time trying to get it right. Awesome image Russell. I think an image is all about what story you want to tell and if you like it then that is all that matters. By the way I love all the different colours in yours. Nice video mate!
One of the things that happens when you do the SHO combination is you get magenta stars. There are a couple of ways to address them. The easiest way I've found is to use the script "CorrectMagentaStars". You can actually do the same thing manually as the script. First, you invert the image. Then you run the SCNR process. Then you invert it back to original. Voila! Magenta stars fixed.
Yes it works perfectly, I purchased an EQDIR cable so I didn’t have to use the hand controller, but the Skywatcher mounts work flawlessly with the Asiair
@@TheHelicapt yeah it should come with the USB connector, if you pick up a cheap EQMod /EQDir cable (I’m not sure which you need for the EQ6-r pro) then you should be good to go. If not, you can connect through the hand controller and it should work well but you’ll have more wires
Very nice indeed. You can fix the haloing in PI using the GAME script to make a mask and then using the curve tool to dim the halo - think there is a youtube video on it. Far from perfect, but an example can be found on my astrobin account: www.astrobin.com/full/972elx/0/ - there was a significant halo in the O channel before it was reduced.
Nice one Russell, great work ,thanks for the advice on the 2600 back focus, worked
Thanks David 👍 that’s great news, glad you got the backfocus sorted! Hope you enjoy the new camera

Cheers Luke, yes it was nice to not have to think about the video for once 👍
Absolutely stunning. The Starless version looks amazing.
PS: Missed your dog this time in the backyard.
Thanks mate! Haha sorry I’m sure Alfie will be back in the videos soon 👍
Very nice Russell, I like that. You’ll never guess who taught Joe colour masks 🤩lol. Keep up the great vids mate, almost there
Thanks very much mate! Can’t believe I hit the 1k mark! Haha you guys know so much about PixInsight…well thanks for the colour mask 👍
@@RussellsAstrophotography well deserved mate 👏👏. Compared to some we know very little lol

Done it in Hubble pallet and HSO
Does the asiair plus plug and play with your eq6r mount. Is there any software required to update on mount ?
