It’s so far removed from what djs do, that likening it to DJing is actually probably very disrespectful. Vjing is a lot closer to DJing than what an LD does, unless the vj has actually made the content they are playing back and effecting.
It depends where you are. Most concerts will preprogram lights. Where your going to see live lighting is in a club or somewhere with a DJ. I’m running lights live this weekend for a small band.
he mostly configures all the effects and stuff before hand you can even do it at home on your PC with the dot 2 program and then he selects what he wants to do on the screen and uses the faders to transition between the chases or presets. i never did anything this crazy so i could be missing stuff but its kinda that, the thing is knowing what will look good with the songs
One of the coolest things here is how he was controlling lasers too, I have only ever seen a separate person responsible for those. No doubt lets them be integrated much better when controlled by the LD
I saw this since i came to europe (netherlands) and i was so amazed! And so interssted! How do u become one? Which study should be followed for such jobs
There’s not really any studying that will help for lighting. I’m trying to also be a LD. What I’ve heard from friends in the production industry is just get your foot in the door and meet people. Take any job you can to get experience and be very willing to learn and teachable. Good luck
@@eosiswastaken that was not the point of his comment, he or she probably knows it isn't, it's just stating that it's a form of art so that it should be recognized that way

It’s actually kinda both since he has to know what songs will be performed in the concert and also has to see what the artist is doing on stage to make the lights react to the performance, it’s honestly a cool job to do
I'm kinda late to this but you can see at the left of the video there's a macbook with different waveforms, well, thats exactly whats happening at the DJ booth on real time (he can see when the drop is coming, how long is the track, when is the other track playing etc.), but that's not always the case, most of the time LJs work blind, so basically, reacting to the music.
You have thousands of possibilities to change the light and must know every song beforehand. With 95% of the songs, you simply know what's coming, as the individual styles usually differ little.
There are specific times where that actually happens we call it time code but when the DJ plays live we have only a general idea what they are going to play but the rest is manual.
For touring concerts with a setlist they are programmed. It’s called timecode the cues will all fire themselves at the correct time if it’s programmed right. But with a live act with no setlist the only option is busking
Start by going to local venues that have some light system, and ask around if you can either volunteer or work in the tech field with them. Once you've started, you'll get to know people and get places
Hello, I am also a lighting person. I am fascinated by your interface, so I really want to know how your interface layout is operated and what macros are used? Or a plug-in? Is there any, because I am so fascinated by your interface choices and I am so eager to get your reply?
Thats because the DJ changes the set every night, in some shows it is programmed but if its programed then you have to use a prerecorded set which some people don't like
You have pre-programmed individual things, such as that the lights circle, then you still have a flicker that you put on it, and the color. In principle, you have hundreds of possibilities that you can pre-program and in the end only have to put together to create a reasonable show. Of course, this is even more complicated

Lighting Operator, Lighting Programmer, or Lighting Designer.

I never thought it was done manually during the show. RESPECT!
Yup! Its done manually and automatically depending on the DJ or band on stage

Thousands of lighting companies out there, yet there's almost always a grandMA to be found at the FoH.

I always wondered how its so perfectly synced. There is no way it could automized.
It’s actually not too hard to sync it to midi you just have to pre program everything which wouldn’t work with a dj
always thought the lights are pre programmed to turn on at specific times / via sound
There are specific times where that actually happens we call it time code but when the DJ plays live we have only a general idea what they are going to play but the rest is manual.

I hate to ask but how much would you make for a gig like this?
I think he's just the resident lighting operator, club looks pretty big and he is using an MA, so, per night around 150€ - 300€ could be fair.
good bucks if ur all time fav to do things like these @@rbgnx
