I was raised in a Christian and Jewish household - we were a family who looked perfect at church but had many flaws in the shadows, and going to Church never brought me closer to Allah.

I am people of the book and am grateful that I can find these books online. The Qu'ran is a wonderful clear book and the Surahs help to understand Torah, Psalms, David and the Gospel. The plague of gnats is the miracle in Torah that Pharaoh's magicians could not duplicate.
"Indeed, Allah is not timid to present an example - that of a mosquito or what is smaller than it. And those who have believed know that it is the truth from their Lord. But as for those who disbelieve, they say, "What did Allah intend by this as an example?" He misleads many thereby and guides many thereby. And He misleads not except the defiantly disobedient"
To be the people of the book you must first have access to the pure book.
What book were you referring too ?
To answer that question you must first tell us all who told you that you must first have access to the pure book? Did God reveal that or did a man reveal it?

i wonder why reading this in English gave me goosebumps
it's like when i read it in Arabic i just read it for the sake of reading it, without actually trying to understand what it means

Just read in the language you understand the most. The Quran is given not to read it mindlesly, its given for you to understand it and fix your life acording to it.
