15 years on & the film somehow started to feel like the storyline itself. Like wine it gets better, more beautiful and charming with age. On a bad day, it's soothing to acknowledge uncle Henry's words while listening to this song: You'll come to see that a man learns nothing from winning. The act of losing, however, can elicit great wisdom. Not least of which is, uh... how much more enjoyable it is to win. It's inevitable to lose now and again. The trick is not to make a habit of it. Drink? :-)
This is my favorite movie of all time. I've watched it probably 10 times. If I'm having a bad day or a bad week I'll watch it. It always takes me to a better place. I love the soundtrack. It makes me want to drink wine in the sun and have a cigar.
I had a blessed uncle who raised me on a idyllic farm, he was like Albert Finney in this movie, he was a friend a rascal and an uncle, I grew up not realizing how blessed I was, I miss him now and he lives on through me I tell my wife stories about him and drink his favorite whiskey he was larger than life and so intelligent but never a snob or a bore, he died and hilariously there was a lot of weeping ladies at his grave, I was shy had a stutter he learned me to not take things so seriously x I miss you uncle Georgie pudding and pie who kissed the girls but in this instance did not make them cry x yes this film is wonderful x
When the madness of the World begins to weigh on my soul, I watch this movie....or even just listening to the soundtrack takes me back - sun on my face....vineyards in the distance....lavender, cicadas....the magic of Provence never fails to cure!!!!!!
not many movies are able to keep my soul warm even for days after watching them. this is one of them, might even be the best one. the emotions this movie makes me feel are indescribable. it makes me want to live life to the fullest. isn't that the best thing a movie can possibly do?

Just watched this movie again for the n-th time. I definitely could smell the lavender and the scent of the dust rising from the dirt road from the Château La Canorgue. Also the sun caressing my face through the trees leaves from Place de l'étang in Cucuron. Each year asking myself why don't I just go back and make an endless summer for the rest of my life in a Provencal way.

Anglo-borghese Boncompagni All so very true, sadly this is as close as I can get to going back to those halcyon days, but the love is with me always and so is she. This music and the film are pure nostalgia, bliss and times so wonderful.

La Siroque is actually Chateau La Canorgue in Bonnieux, France. Would love to go, but way to expensive. Vietnam vet on meager disability. Loved this so much. A masterpiece to me. All humans should see this. Lights up your soul. Reminds of childhood & Tennessee vacations. Didn't go back for many years. When I finally did, all I had were such fond memories. I could go on & on.💕

This makes me think of growing from a boy to a man. My first apartment, my first job, car, and my first love. Everything was so grandiose, to me, and amazing. But it was still delicate, as was I, and it was a big upheaval. Fun, though! 😊❤️
I can watch this movie over and over again ❤ infact this movie is so relaxing that one just feels like leaving all the unwanted rat race and living a simpler fuller life which of course is being practised by me now being 40. Working in limit, heading off for small getaways every now and then.
This was an absolute favourite film of mine & my late Wife's, if there was ever a film to get just lost in then this was ours... I'd sort of used the whole film as a 'Theme' for Christmas one yr & bought her a number of items that you could associate with it, a model of Max's Car, Tennis Balls from Max & Duflot's Tennis Match etc etc

This movie is really nice. I had read the book before I saw the film as I like a lot Peter Mayle's books. It makes me nostalgic every time I watch it, as the first place where I lived together with my current boyfriend was France.. It was like a long honey-moon and it was nice although it was not in Provence that we lived. And Peter Mayle wrote also about this same movie in another one of his books. I miss him and his stories from Provence. But I have at home an olive-tree and a fig-tree from Greece and a nice pot of lavender which make me feel a bit as I'm on a nice Mediterranean holiday, west or east of this sea, if I just close my eyes. "A good year" to everyone & stay safe!
