  • Amidst a stay at home situation, the No Time To Die watches are sent to me for a full review...do they meet my high expectations? How are they in person? And most of all, do they connect me with the excitement and anticipation of the movie?
    Special thanks to Omega for arranging!

    David I have watched your videos for many years. I have seen you in various Tom Ford suits and review many Bond related items such as watches and shoes and everything Bondian. I live in England and as the Coronavirus situation here gets worse by the day I find myself watching all of your previous videos. Your professional relaxed and informative style with an obvious passion of Bond takes me away from the reality of what is happening here. Thank you David.

      Thank you, Gary....and that is why I keep doing them. I absolutely understand the topic is about things and items that may seem frivolous and unimportant right now, but we ALL need a little escape even for 15 minutes. This is an abnormal time and to consume some normal content is healthy and entertaining. We can all get back to being stressed after the video ends....

    I initially wasnt a fan of the bracelet due to really loving the bracelet styles of the planet ocean and the aqua terra but this review sold me on it and the watch looks great. I'm still on the fence about justifying spending 9K on it but its definitely migrated from not wanting to get it to really considering buying it. With the movie scheduled to come out in November, I'll give myself until October to make a decision. Excellent and comprehensive review and glad Omega reached out to you to rectify the unfortunate experience you had previously.

    Excellent review, David. But, as a brazilian citizen, I will not be able to buy a 9.200 USD Omega anytime soon... that means 46.000 Brazilian Real. Imagine yourself paying 46.000 money units for a watch. It is more expensive than my 2012 HD Heritage - it is obscene money here now. Anyhow, I will be rocking my blue Omega Seamaster 300 Professional... in quartz. At least it brings the feel! Cheers!

  • @mattsojourner03
    @mattsojourner03 4 роки тому +2

    I would not buy this on a NATO, buy it with the bracelet. You can always find a replacement NATO strap for way cheaper than you ever could the bracelet. Not a big fan of the faux patina. In the real world, that is usually an indicator of water damage, something I would not want on a dive watch. I’ve got to be frank and honest with you, fake retro is a bit uncool. For the price, I’d buy a no date Rolex Submariner. It’s a true icon, and if you ever had to sell it, the watch would hold its value. With all of these special editions that Omega makes, I feel it devalues the brand a bit. That being said, the Speedmaster Professional is really cool iconic watch, and has a lot of historical significance. Even if it’s not a “James Bond” watch per se. It’s recognized as a classic anywhere you go, unlike these countless limited edition watches. One thing I notice is that just about all of your watches look too big on your wrists. I understand the James Bond connection as the reason, and I would never argue that they aren’t beautiful pieces. I just find they detract from the elegance of the expensive beautiful suits you’ve acquired. Have you ever tried on a Tudor Black Bay 58? It’s a tad bit smaller, and I think would look great on you and in your collection. It reminds me very much of the Goldfinger Submariner. Plus Tudor has the same founder as Rolex so there would be some argument for it as a spiritual successor to that hard to obtain Rolex.

    I've wanted a Bond watch on a Milanese strap for years, and they finally did one (and it's a beautiful strap), but I honestly don't love the watch itself! It looks like a weird mish-mash of modern and vintage style to me. I wish they'd committed more in one direction or another.
    I still think the best Craig-era watches are the SKYFALL Aqua Terra and the SPECTRE SM300.
    For NO TIME TO DIE, I kinda wish they'd given Craig's Bond one of the new Railmaster models with the brushed metal dials in a nod to Fleming's watch.

    I saw this watch in Shinjuku Isetan in a 007-themed display case last week. It had a "Nato"-style strap but in grey-yellow-green stripes. It absolutely suited the brown bezel and looked amazing. The watch is not to my personal taste, but if you get one and you do a fabric strap consider making it green- or brown-striped. I took pics, fortunately.
    -oh. It comes with that strap. I shouldn't comment before watching to the end!

  • @JeffJacquesmd
    @JeffJacquesmd 4 роки тому +3

    David, a few thoughts.
    Great story telling, I’m glad Omega stepped up and took care of you.
    I had a similarly bad experience when I bought the Snoopy SpeedMaster from the NYC boutique a few years back, which after months of waiting after prepaying first the watch led to a last minute scramble to get the watch during a holiday weekend and a very poor boutique experience.
    I’ll never buy another new Omega from the boutique.
    As for the watch itself, the design is nice, though many in the watch community dislike the faux tropical dials and the faux patina to the line plots that have become mandatory when a watchmaker wants to evoke “vintage”.
    It’s lovely, it’s at least 3k too expensive for what it is. I won’t buy one.
    When we review watches we usually get more close up, will wear white gloves and will place the watches on something soft, like microfiber to avoid bagging them on surfaces or accidentally marring the case or the sapphire crystal.
    Cheers

    • @TheBondExperience
      @TheBondExperience  4 роки тому +1

      Really appreciate the tips...I am still learning!

    • @Plally06
      @Plally06 4 роки тому

      While I understand the skepticism around faux patina (the marmite of watch design trends), this one seems to have gone so 'faux' as to be simply a colour in its own right. So what does that tell us about Bond's new watch? Is it supposed to evoke his old school mature stature now? Or is it just the new standard issue watch for double O agents - since Nomi has one too? My head hurts thinking about this watch's significance :-) Re the price, I do find it interesting that many watch aficionados have pointed out that this is way overpriced but some would then happily pay roughly the same amount for a Rolex Submariner (if available) while sniffing at the comparison. Brand re-sale value aside though, I'd argue that functionally they're both stylish divers with comparable build qualities. But the Sub RRP isn't considered equally overpriced? I think that if you're a Bond fan and this fantastic watch simultaneously evokes both modern Bond and that older Fleming /60's feel for you then it's a winner and is worth every penny. Because this isn't the stock market, it's not an 'investment' piece, it won't yield a return. The reality that Omega doesn't hold value like Rolex raises the question of whether this may be available later in the year at a discount online anyway though so buyers, beware. For those who do get one regardless, enjoy it! Also, you have a Snoopy? - Nice!

    • @JeffJacquesmd
      @JeffJacquesmd 4 роки тому +1

      Paul Lally well thought out and argued. A few thoughts:
      Yes I have a Snoopy. Ordered one through the boutique, put half down and then waited 7 months with little or no feedback as to where my Snoopy was. That and a horrible pickup experience at the boutique has soured me on the brand.
      With regards to relative worth, things are worth what people will pay. The watch is nice if perhaps overly designed. The issue is having Seamasters at 5-6k and changing 9k for this one, which is a production piece. If this were limited one could argue scarcity as meritorious of markup. As it is, it feels like profiteering. IMO
      If you are a Bond fan then this is a piece to pursue, for me as a watch guy it’s a meh. At say 1k over regular Seamaster I’d consider it, simply for its Bond connection. As vintage Rolex has skyrocketed the interest in vintage Omega leading to some interesting increases in Speedy pricing.

    • @JeffJacquesmd
      @JeffJacquesmd 4 роки тому +1

      Paul Lally for context I’m co-founder of RedBar the watch collecting community. I’m talking to watch collectors every day in my personal life. About 30 of us had a 90 minute chat when this watch was announced, and the majority of folks were a) skeptical of the price point b) disappointed in the all the fauxtina applies here c) unlikely to order. As of last week none of them had put in an order even though they have existing customer relationships with an Omega boutique.

    • @Plally06
      @Plally06 4 роки тому

      Jeff J I can see both sides tbh. My fandom and love of seamasters makes me biased in this watch’s favour but of course I’m also a sucker for a sub. This watch collection business is expensive fun 😄 Thanks Jeff, it’s good to bounce around opinions on this. I fully get that the Omega marketing flutters between genuine passion for the products and somewhat iffy attempts to make more money out of an existing model. So in the end it’s gotta be a very individual choice I think

    I have the SPECTRE watch and I love it, never had one moment of buyers remorse. I do love this new Seamaster, however I think it costs too much currently, considering the fact that it is not even on a limited run like the SPECTRE. Omega have stated that this watch will remain in their collection until the next film, which is likely not going to be anytime in the next five years. I feel as though if I hold off from buying it straight away, it will come down in value and I can save some money on it. Secondly, I don't like the fact that it does not have a display back. Omega have some of the best movements in the market and I enjoy looking at them. I think if you're buying a luxury watch you should expect a display back these days.

    This has been my new favourite for some time now. I love the whole vintage theme, the vintage brownish black and the vintage radium lume and how the indicies are "raised" from the dial (applied indicies). Omega hit it out of the park with this design. Earlier promos showed it on a Brownish Nato that echoed the vintage radium lume brown of the indicies. I liked that Nato better than this 'newer" Nato. The bezel is fully lumed by the way and the lume is HOT!. Way way out of my price range ($9200 US is $15,330 NZ right now) so I will be searching for a homage.

    Cool video and nice gesture from Omega. It's fairly surprising that you were mis-treated at the Omega boutique. These shops are selling reasonably expensive items hence the sales people should be courteous to potential customers even if they don't buy as they may buy at their next visit. This should be a must. Now, it is unfortunate but some people are not necessarily happy with their jobs but this should not be an excuse. It is a fantastic watch, love at first sight, it will be my first Omega and a good addition to my other watches. I have ordered mine from a friend in Paris who used to be Authorised Dealer for Omega, he will get it from his family as they have watches and jewellery shops.

    I think its more about Omega trying to advertise its products here than purely a demonstration of their good will. A win for both parties however.

    I’m late to the party but I have to say great review. Metal strap definitely first then the nato later. Very true about the doppelgängers comment. I’ve a number of Omegas (6) and I can tell the difference but my GF things I’ve only got 3 lol. 👍🏻🍸

    As soon as you said “I like Nato straps” David, I immediately smiled because I thought that when TGV views your review video, he’d approve for sure 😁. He was the reason I became a convert to natos. Personally, I’m more of a fan of the Spectre watch, but the ‘new Bond watch’ on the Milanese is very cool all the same. 👌🏻👌🏻

    Nice presentation, but its the same as the other omega seamasters only changed a bit. Sadly its highly overpriced, better off with a rolex, this does not belong in the same price range as a rolex .

    As a jeweler myself for the past 12 years, I've worked and repaired many different watches from different makers and Omegas has always been a favorite. Those who complain about the price need to remember the materials used making this watch. Titanium (until now with the colapse) is a very expensive material to use, and is very tricky to work with. During the casting and polishing/deburring stage you can easily over heat the metal and damage the integrity of it. Let's bot forgot about the aluminum bezel insert with LUME markes behind the bezel indices, which is incredibly tricky in its self, but again, aluminum is a very tricky metal to work with as well, as it's very porous and soft / fragile (albeit very cheap cost wise).
    While I csnt justify the over all price, I can see why it sits where it is at. Add to the fact that it IS a signature Bond movie watch, the price does make sense, but it's just shy of my justification.
    Infirst thought they just sent you both of these to keep, not just review lol. Thst would be some damn good sponsoring right there. Great review David.

    Omega makes some very handsome watches, but in my humble opinion, this is not one of them. It looks better in the video than other places I’ve seen it, but the worn looking markers and flimsy looking bracelet do not do it for me. Nice presentation with the boxing and all, but not worth the money despite the “cool” factor of being used in the movie.
