The Dhammapada is a collection of sayings of the Buddha in verse form and one of the most widely read and best known Buddhist scriptures. The original version of the Dhammapada is in the Khuddaka Nikaya, a division of the Pali Canon of Theravada Buddhism.
The Buddhist scholar and commentator Buddhaghosa explains that each saying recorded in the collection was made on a different occasion in response to a unique situation that had arisen in the life of the Buddha and his monastic community.

I led a guided meditation at our Zen center last night and incorporated Verse 8 (Thousands). Then, I open UA-cam this morning and this video is at the top of my suggestions. Coincidence? Probably. The work of invasive algorithms using the data from my Amazon Kindle app to populate my UA-cam feed? Likely. But very cool nonetheless. It's a great way to start the morning. the truth of my being, many years ago, found in a second hand book shop in London while looking for
hard to find books on Sufism. Turning the first page of the twin verses I knew this was Truth.
It is the S. Radhakrishnan translation with Pali text etc.
Been listening to Easwaran's, "Essence of the Dhammapada," over and over this week on audiobook...and as always...Jayasara is right there with me❤️

Great recording as always, you have a fantastic voice for this. However, I wish it was possible for you to do a different translation of this great work.
Which translation do you like? There are so many different ones.
@@SamaneriJayasara There was a small handheld version that I had and kept with me but, I lost it some time ago. I don't remember who did the translation but I remember it flowed much better and as a result seemed much clearer. I will have to look online to see if I can find the translation I am talking about. But this one is ok I guess.
Sure, I'll have another look in our monastery library where we have loads of different translations too. I think I know the one you are referring to....I suspect it was Ven. Narada Thera.
@@SamaneriJayasara Actually I found it, It was a translation done by Thomas Byrom and Gil Fronsdale. I don't know how accurate that translation is, but it made sense to me at the time.
@@SamaneriJayasara I would be interested in hearing Narada Thera version instead of the Thomas Byrom one, it seems like a good english translation.

I was listening to another one that I downloaded from your Google drive named Words of Buddha Part 1, last modified September 25, 2020 but it wasn't completely downloaded and now I'm trying to find it to download it again and see if there's a Part 2 in any your folders and different traditions but cannot find in which one or by that name.
