What do you mean one of. Mr Carlson's Lab is exceptional. I have restored Electronic equipment as a hobby for many, many years and I was originally a qualified Eletronics Engineer. I have learnt more from this channel than anything I ever studied. I have revisited some of my restorations after watching his, basically just to do better. After his Heathkit VTVM restoration I purchased one almost exactly the same and restored it from the ground up. I am very pleased with the result. Hats off to Mr Carlson, simply the best.

    You go man!
I thought the ancient electronics was literally a thing of the past until i found these utube channels reviving the technology.
When i was in teck school they was still teaching tube theories.
I had dragged a hi school friend of mine into electronics with me into classes and we both did very well..
But unfortunately he past about 10 years ago 😑.
You look so much like him, it is unbelievable..

Shango is definitely a must watch channel for me. He has an inherent knowledge of troubleshooting & resurrecting "Vacuum Bulb" TV's, and does it in a way to make it interesting, as well as being informative. He also delves into other devices, transistor radio's, some audio equipment, as well as having experience with speakers / sound reinforcement equipment.

      @alanpecherer5705 Рік тому +4

Yah, Shango is incredible, I've seen him rescue TV sets that were so far gone, probably even the dump wouldn't take them! I used to fiddle with TV sets found in the garbage 50 years ago as a kid and I learned most everything I know about electronics from battling those things. Today I would find it hard to expend much work on them since there is nothing to be received on them and I don't watch TV anyway. I will say that having videos of other people hauling and lifting and troubleshooting these things means I don't have to succumb to my innate compulsion to work on them, and for that I am very grateful.

I’m finally about to start a restore project on an old pre amp. It has been sitting for about a year as a “carrot” for me when life slowed down. That never happens, so I finally unscrewed the one of eight screws left holding the cover to the chassis last night and looked inside. Sadly it’s a little worse then I was assuming but that just means more fun. Lol
My apologies for droning on. I just wanted to give you some thanks.

The detail and in depth knowledge of electronics is just fascinating to watch. I think most of us almost view electronics as wizardry but you and the other few channels that do these restorations pull back the veil and make it enjoyable to learn how it all works. Seeing how all these old (sometimes very old) tube devices work and how they operate on the same principle as today's electronics, albeit with the components of the time, is enlightening. Today's smart phones have 15 billion or more transistors in them so seeing how electronics worked with tubes is very enjoyable and satisfying to see. That the person you got that tv from watched the first time The Beatles were on tv is great stuff.

I’m very excited for the Atwater Kent. I found a model 40 last summer, with no speaker, it was claimed it worked the last time it was hooked up 10 years previous. The power supply unit looks like the tar has been melted at some point and there’s an end of a newer looking circuit board protruding from the tar with some newer leads running to the PSU board. It appears someone has been in there to re-cap it at some time, quality of work, who knows. I was lucky enough to find a model E2 speaker shortly after at an antiques mall. I powered it up with a dim bulb setup, just a short wire for the antenna and it received several stations from the area, sounded great. It’s nice to be starting with a working unit. Anyway, I love your channel and I’m greatly looking forward to the future videos.

Interesting group of future projects. I am surprised that you don't have an electrostatic set in your queue for restoration, they are fascinating little sets that were only in the market for a few years in the late 1940's to early 1950's. It's going to be interesting seeing the Marconi restoration, that is a manufacturer that is seldom seen here in the US. Hi Mr. Carlson, I'm an audio engineer and as such I work with professional audio equipment daily, some of these pieces of equipment have been coveted and used for more than 50 years. This is probably outside the realm of "likely", but I would be incredibly interested to see you open up a vintage compressor such as a Fairchild or LA-2A or a Pultec EQ unit. If you have access to that kind of vintage audio equipment would you consider ever bringing them on to the show?

Paul, the Atwater Kent is of interest to me. I own a very clean Atwater Kent Model 20 and want to learn more about those.

Thanks, Paul. Those are some nice TV's and stuff. I'm glad that the notification bell works for you. YT hasn't sent me any notifications since Covid started. I have also turned them off and then back on and that didn't help. Maybe they turned them off for me because they know that I am a Christian and a conservative 2nd Amendment supporter...

Thank you for calling out other channels; that's a kind thing for you to do, and for mentioning that many (myself included) don't typically ask for subs/likes.

Thanks for the tour, looking forward to seeing the insides of those old TVs. Did you take any photos of the mouse's nest before you evicted him? Very much enjoying your receiver restoration series too.

Mr. Carlson has North Americas emergency stash of vacuum tubes. If there were none of a particular nomenclature to be found, Paul has a dozen of them. Brand new in the box.

Paul, Would love to know where you find your vacuum tubes? You seem to have a very large and expansive collection.

Interesting! Maybe you mentioned that somewhere, is UA-cam your job, or are you professionally repairing these things and you charge for it? Or are you rich and do this just for fun?

The TV restorations look like the could be, well, challenging. Better than factory fresh, like your radio restorations? This I gotta see!
I had never heard of Fleetwood and Marconi televisions. Canadian brands?

Any chance you can do tube camera repairs? Like the panasonic 1650 or any vidicon tube camera?
