That reminded me of a video called "Last Drop of Greed", when Cuphead collects his last "soul contract", who is Mugman, to get Devil's insane wealth. Cuphead DOES die, but the soul from a soul contract revives Cuphead. After Mugman died a sufferable fate, Cuphead realizes it's not about the riches, he just killed his own brother, but HE DOESN'T know THAT happened. All he knows is his brother is dead.
