This spot is by far the BEST for long Train action, Heavy trains trying to make the hill, and others braking hard to not run away, loads of deer,a nice flowing creek, and a freezing Jaw Tooth😢, this spot and you rock!❤️
To show how steep the grade is, take a level with you, set it on the rail head and lift the down grade end until the bubble shows level, then measure from the rail head to the end of the level. Or, contact the railroad and ask them what the ruling grade is on that hill.
It’s so awesome to see big beasts down on their knees with heavy freight trains, either going upgrade or downgrade, always a sight to see. Thanks JT. Those DPUS really earn their money don’t they?
Burr 32 degrees thank you JT for getting out in this cold weather to make these great videos for all of us rail fans to enjoy ! 👍👨✈️🙋🏻😄☝️TRACKS AHEAD !
That was cool. On the downhill train you could hear the radio saying that the 1st, 3rd, and 4th locos were running. Went back and watched it pass by and it sounded right, there was very little noise as the 2nd engine passed by. Pretty cool.
The ramp to the top of the hill is significant. I observe that the trains that go up the hill and the one that goes down it run at almost the same speed, the ones that go up at full power of the locomotives that pull them and the one that goes down probably with the engine brake. Thank you for this representative video.
Mr. JT, we - your subscribers, are going to have to work together to send you south to Fort Lauderdale, for the winter - we don't want you to get too cold and those wonderful winter temps of -25 are coming. As always, great videos. Approaching 200k subscribers!! Take care, Sir.
Thank you for going out in different types of weather and giving us train videos And especially on the NS rathole line Watching the trains make it upgrade and downgrade And listening to those engines A great place to watch trains and get to see the different types of merchandise and cars that They have on this line Keep up the good work
You should talk to Carhartt about making you a Hawaiian print jacket. That way can bundle up and maintain your signature look! Maybe an artist in your can make a folding walking stick. Put a gradient of colors on it. You can use it as walking stick to get up the hill. Then unfold it and stick it next to the tracks as reference point for the grade.
I see you're closing in on 200K subscribers! Keep up the great work! They most likely ride the brakes going downhill, hence that burning smell. I can imagine how hot they get!
Great video Jawtooth! Cool location! I love the sound of a DPU pulling hard up a hill! Cool to see the duck has company! The black Scobie duck is cool! Thanks for sharing!
Always nice to take a work break and watch a Jawtooth video! Thanks for trekking through the woods to get great shots of trains coming out of the rat hole line. Keep up the good work sir!
Norfolk Southern #8030, to the DPU rescue @ 10'36", at the apex of the curve, thanks JT for braving the elements, far far away from civilization 👍👌🚦💚🌎🗽
Just wondering, are you going to revisit the Shoo Fly? Bet that area looks really nice now. Those engines are working hard. I appreciate all that you do to video these places that I wouldn't see without you sharing with us. Thank you. Have a nice day
Nice DPU! Train 3 should have plenty of horsepower for the haul - 4 engine lashup is perfect :) Hard to say which is more difficult - going down the grade or up.
Speaking of the 2nd train, coming up the hill, I find it amazing that they can pull that much weight up that hill with just 3 locomotives. They were really working hard to do it. Great catch. You must have some pretty good corn there, the black duck is still hanging around. Thanks.
I have heard about NS having trouble either with scheduling or not enough engineers. My sister called awhile back she had been setting for over two hours. When she called them they were flying in a new crew from somewhere. They had all four crossings in trussville al blocked. This is east of bham al.
Thank you for another day in Crescent Springs, Kentucky area, Jaw Tooth! This is a wonderful area to watch trains struggling up the hill from the Ohio River Valley. The southbound train was struggling up the hill. The dynamic brakes on the engines on the northbound trains must have been working overtime to keep the downhill trains from going too fast down the grade.
Love it my man ! ( Son ) should have gone a little bit further to the trestle …….keep it up JT !!! Had one yesterday with six horses pulling hard , my granddaughter tells me , “ hey papa they’re sanding “ lol !
It seems with the leaves down, it's easier to discern the grade. What's really cool about JT & Gambit videos is seeing all different sorts of rail cars.
I've been fascinated with trains since I was a little guy, as a matter of fact my father owned a tavern and a lot of the conductors would come in there for lunch and one day one of them took me on the train and let me sit in the engine, I'll never forget it as long as I live, but I have one question but I've noticed in a couple videos I'll come there's no caboose on some of these?
I was watching a Mick Jagger video & up popped 2 JT Train videos,,TNX for cendin me those new videos JT,,,a magnetic angle finder will work too,,,on top of the track,,,
At around 2:32, the car with the gray boxes on it- is that an articulated flat car? 71 cars on that first train. Wow, that was short. 155 on the next train. 145 on the next train. I got 73 on the last one. But I wasn't sure about all the empty flat cars, whether any of them were articulated or not. I like that black Muscovy that showed up on your farm. I wonder where it came from. He's cool.
My Mom's cousin used to live on Market Street in Steubenville, Ohio, in the 1950's. My Dad, and her cousin's husband would walk me to the train depot there to watch trains. One time a freight with 3 diesels stalled on the bridge over the Ohio River. They backed it down to Mingo Jct., to add a pusher on the rear. About a half hour later, the train came storming up past the Depot, with a steam Loco pushing at the rear! As a young boy, that site was my first & last encounter with PRR steam!
Thanks 👍 I heard on my scanner yesterday that a guy fell out of his deer stand and needed an ambulance near where I live. They needed the fire departments Gator to get to him but it was out of service ( broken as usual ). The deer in this video were scared by something and probably was hunters.
11:29 the reason not to stand too close to passing trains , check out that material that can easily snag pants under the rail . Good Job JAW I wish I was a train watcher !
That 1st train that you got video of coming through the woods like that was awesome shot Too bad it wasn't a steam engine it would've made it a lot better Just as a request do you think you can get some shots of some F series 1st Gen. Diesel locomotives👍🏻👍🏻
In your recent experiences in West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio, which state has the friendlier or friendliest Bigfoot railfans. Gracias por tu video. RT sends, Puebla, México....
Well, JT that position you ere using was showing the steepness of the hill today. I think the angle of the light helped and you weren't zooming in as much. Was that traces of snow in the wood? Great video 👍
Yes it was. I listen to them a little bit if I get bored while waiting for a train. I keep my scanner on at the house all the time with the local fire department and the railroad
Excellent good video, mr Jaw Tooth. Hill up with a long train is no problem, but hill down that is topsport. For the trainengineer . A steep grade hill a long heavy train and the gravity working, then smell ye the breaks of the train. And what do you think the curves in the railway hill down. Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands 🇾🇪🇺🇸.

Wow, your horse made a friend and now your duck made a friend. Sure would be nice if that horse could come back for a play date. Great video 😊👍
That would be cool!
Careful Railroading! Hunter Harrison Specials!!! Be Blessed!!! Jawtooth!
Man, that was a LONG lumbering train with the DPU workin' HARD!
Argh, I can feeeel the strain! I love the little ducky. Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
Wow awesome footage always

Thank you very much!
Hi Jaw Tooth! Great video!
Thank you 🤗
That first train going up was making good time for the number of cars !😊
Yes indeed!
