I go to the Senior Center to a balance class & this one of the exercises our instructor teaches us, but our chairs have no arms on them. The balance class has really helped my legs!
Bob and Brad seem like some really cool dads. Thanks for this, I’m supporting my mom who is recovering from a stroke.
I did this with my mum the other day by coincidence. I used the verandah rail as a support to assist with the start. I also did standing side leg raises. Even in a few days, her balance improved dramatically. This is a really good video.
At 82 years, I can do full squats ....I started getting up from the bed..took a couple of weeks doing them 3 to 4 times a wk..progressed to the couch..finally I do squats with my arms extended out front...20 four times a day...love the feeling of being able to do many things. My legs were slightly sore. My 94 yr. old friends are up to 8 every other day!
Meant...20 four times a week. Lol
@@monicalemmer9029 you might enjoy reading about Ernestine Shepard. We have to stay inspired. Lots of utube videos about her. (81 yr old body builder)
Good for you Monica. I'm a full-time yoga teacher and most of my classes are with the wise population. The results I see are nothing short of amazing. My inspiration was my 87-year-old father who last year was unable to walk or get out of a chair without assistance. Now, 2 classes with me a week, and daily exercises on his own, he is out golfing 18 holes every chance he gets, easily getting up and down even from the floor, and nearly pain-free.
Good for your dad Vicky Lynne...amazing how our muscles start to wake up...
Yeah Monica! Keep going!
when you progress from using two hands to push off to one hand remember to switch hands to develop strength and balance evenly.
You guys are fantastic. I'm 84 and this is just the help I need. Keep your advice coming. Bob and Brad you are the best physiotherapists anywhere!
They are so helpful everyday in every way. We're so thankful to them.
I'll ditto that Bro... A body in motion stays in motion - We need to just keep tripping the light fantastic...
Love love love you guys. You never talk down or assume things. For those of us suddenly surprised to be a 'weak senior ' your videos are very encouraging. Thank you....grazie mille.
"Suddenly surprised to be a weak senior." That 's a phrase I can "suddenly" relate to! 😣

I hope you are doing better Jackie. God bless.
It is a nasty surprise alright. Good luck to you.
My sister 82 just off to hospital after fall. Will be discussing this with her when she recovers. Prevention best!
This is really the exercise to rule them all. I do this with postpartum mothers, active seniors, and seniors that already have some mobility issues. The response I've gotten has been great, because they really notice the change in their everyday life. Even the fit people can feel this in their legs the day after. For those who need even more of a challenge I tell them to keep one foot completely on the floor, but with the other foot they only have their heel on the floor. Some of my seniors can even do this with only one leg.
This channel and these gentlemen are everything that is excellent about youtube
Pushing off your legs with hands on legs is a lightning bolt! What a simple hand placement made a lightbulb go off. When I saw the movement with that technique, made me gave hope! Thank you.
I watched this video a week ago and have been practicing it at work and at home. I'm 68, overweight and work at a desk for 8-10 hours a day. What a difference I can tell in just a week! I've watched many of your videos before and have benefitted from them. Thank you so much for posting these!
I’ve watched so many videos on Balance exercises and yours are the most incredible and easy to follow. Thanks so much !!
"anyway, if you go onto the F.B...."
you dudes are always hilarious and your chemistry is impeccable
Aging seems to sneak up on you, it's gradual till one day you find yourself in one of Bob and Brads situations and need help. So thanks guys you are helping lots people. Even younger ones recovering from accidents, surgery and the like.
I love you two. You talk such common sense but keep it light hearted. Thanks for taking the trouble to post these videos. I'm a very lazy 68 year old and you inspire me. Just wish I had a wall in my house where I could fix the long stretchy bands.
Really appreciate you, bob and brad. Thank you.
I am really impressed with your information. Thank you. I also like the way you both converse as you teach. You make it more enjoyable.
Wow. thank you for doing these exercise videos. I retired and did not realize that your body "retires" too, unless you work it daily. So at 70, I am starting to do this. It went quickly, but is taking longer to get it back! Again, Kudu's for taking the time out of your day to do these video's!
Thanks Bob and Brad, I’m very happy to find your balance exercises, I’m starting today.
You two make exercise fun, I love your personalities. Cheers, and best wishes from Australia. 👍
I've had two serious falls recently and think I have discovered the main contributing
factor. It was never even hinted at in months of home physical therapy. As I stood
up from my most recent fall in a storeI, looked at the soles of my shoes, The rear outer portion of each heel was worn down. As I was escorted home by a store employee I began tipping neededto react more quickly, but had been only seconds away from you're falling more frequently to the side, check the heels, they may be a part of the problem.
Good timing guys, I've had balance issues lately. Thanks! ♥️
Great ideas, I’ll pass them on to family members. Thank you.
I'll have my mother doing these great exercises. Thank you
This one exercise changed my life after I had a bad fall in 2016 which made me very unbalanced and I started falling doing normal things. A local therapist showed me this exercise and it works. I have been able to keep my indepence now for 5 yrs... being able to work with my own hands, doing my own work around my home. Thanks for this great video.
Awesome video! Thank you guys.💜💜💜
Thank you!
I just love you two guys!
you are very funny!
I love your learning video’s.
Like it. New it, forgot all about doing it, thanks for reminding me.
The Alexander Technique is so helpful for balance, getting in and out of chairs, improving confidence and mobility
Thank you. Love your simple well explained exercises. Definitely need my balance - live in a place with icy streets
This is a simple solution to a common problem. Thank you so very much :)
This is an amazing video. I’m 60 and recovering from neuromuscular disease and this is so useful and helpful. Thanks so much! ⭐️
I am impressed--IMPRESSED!! Great work, you guys!!
You guys are awesome thank you.
I subscribed because Covid19 made me lazy. Now I have no excuse. Thanks guys. Need to get strong again.
NOT LAZY, JUST SICK.
Thanks, you guys are the greatest !!
This is awesome technique. Thanks a lot! Going to help my grandpa to do it.
For me, it’s high blood pressure and the medication. My pharmacist warned me about this. If I get up from bed in the morning, I have to sit for a few minutes until I stand. Otherwise, if I get up too fast the whole room is spinning and I feel dizzy.
Good advice. I lost my balance due to vertigo leading to a bad concussion and ear damage. The Epley maneuver to get rid of vertigo didn't last long enough. It was wonderful while it lasted though.
Thanks Bob & Brad for the helpful videos!
Thanks for the video. I'm starting tonight. Continued success. Love PegEgg
You guys are great I'm sure you never get tired of hearing that. But you guys are. Thank you
GET TO THE POINT
Guys, keep it up! you're saving us old people!
Thanks Guys!!
Thank you 🙏🙏
What a wonderful team. Don’t ever do what Martin and
Lewis did. Please stay together and keep um coming 👍🏻
Got two bouts of vertigo which ruined my balance. This made me so much better, thank you!
Great ideas and helpers. Thanks so much
You guys are awesome. Thank you.. Perfect for what I need,.
That’s the best info I have seen for getting your balance improved thx thx I am going to do this !!
You guys are great. Good info that if we had received in hospital would have cost us a great deal of money
Thanks! You guys are great 😊
Sir I liked ur exercise for seniors nd explained to take care while sitting nd getting up the chair thank u v.much without giving jerk to the body .
That's a good tag line, fix anything except for a broken heart. Good video
lucy, i believe the ancient expression is "i can fix anything but a broken heart and i can make you forget about that."😄
Broken hearts slowly repair themselves. We have to respect their need for a time to grieve but also reintroduce them to joy in small doses.
great!!!!thank you please continue to feature excercises with little equipment
Thank you for your useful, informative videos. I have noticed when my potassium is marginal I feel like my ankles " don't work" and my balance is a little off. Yes I'm on a diuretic and potassium supplement. It just means I have to be more aware of my electrolytes.
Thanks again.
Very good lesson - thanks
Thanks for great, simple remedies!
I need this, Thank you, Your information is So Appreciate Thank you Bob Brad 😘
I am 73, very active, normal BP etc...altho' a tad chunky..Hubby and I live in a walk up building so those stairs are good exercise... I am just getting over a bout of BPPV. Added to my Epley maneuvers, I am working on my balance and steadiness. I do get wobbly now and then..many thanks...
Thank you for sharing this 🌻
Years ago a physical therapist worked with my husband. The starting exercises were so simple I was skeptical. But, oh my, what a difference they made. The therapist knows what it takes to get you where you need to be. Be patient.
Great information guys!
Good to know. Thank You 😊
Possibly. I got the N Y C. Ballet workout videos. Amazing. I could not believe what it did for me. I tried other aerobic and dance programs. No comparison. It improved my ice skating, and riding skills. You do what you can to begin with. What matters most that it's done in proper form. BTW, I'm in my 70's.
Excellent
Since I fell last week this is much appreciated. I was lucky and just "threw my back out" a bit and banged up my knees, but it could have been much worse. Thanks so much for this, Bob and Brad! :)
These balance exercises are critical !
Hi. Hello. Howdy. Thank you. Thank you for sharing. Please keep it up.
Thanks
Thanks you the best
Very good.
😘 Thank you.
👍🏽👍🏻👍🏿👍 thanks very much!
Thanks. Just what I needed. I also have trouble getting up from the floor. I have to crawl over to a chair or something that I can grab on to and pull myself up. How do you work up to standing up without needing to hang on to anything?
This is me now too, such a shock when you first realise you can’t get up!
You guys are awesome! Luv your videos🌝⚘💥💕
Wonderful video
You.made. laugh, when I was in the hospital, the doctor told me "not to plop"that's harder than you'd think.
excellent
Love your videos
Thanks folks, I Will try to apply those exercises to my parents routine, you até great!
2 of my physical therapists gave me that exercise to do months ago and I'm only 22 years old.
Did you have any illness or injury lately?
Carla Caires no
Hi B n B, OMG, First 3 seconds I laughed again hard! Only my 2nd video watched, I love you guys! Thank you again!! LOL,. BRADY. 😸.
Also, I thank you for this subject, I suffered. a concussion and no balance since, I will try this and get back to you with results!! 😁👍🏼
Careful! OMG, some of those new "lift-chairs" could catapult an ole lady right across the room ! 🤣
This exercise definitely helps getting out of bed to stand.
Ty for sharing 🙂 New Subscriber
I can do sit to stands ok and my local pt said it was a good way to work everything. What I would like to know is, can you do some exercises for MS? A routine so to speak for strength.
Thank you!
Carla
Tks
Lift chairs not only result in increased weakness, they also ruin body mechanics for standing because as they push you forward, they force you to push backward to keep from sliding onto the floor. Pushing backward is exactly the opposite force needed to stand. You need to push your body forward, to shift it from your buttocks to your feet to stand. That doesn't happen if you push backward. That's why people who are used to a lift chair will often push against you as you try to help them stand. Also relying on a lift chair to stand puts you at a disadvantage when use any other chair, such as ones at the doctor's office.
Thank you for your comment on the lift chair. It is not the blessing it's touted to be because it leads to weakness/dependency. I cringe when my elderly clients get excited about getting one. What's next? The coffin.
Same thing for wheelchairs. I have one and stay out of it and use my walker as much as possible.
Place chair against wall to prevent it from sliding out from under you.
Thanks for the video, guys! It will really help.
Question: Where did you get that stiff blue seat cushion? I went to your Amazon Shop and couldn't find it.
Thank you for your efforts 🌹
Volume is always less.but i love ur videos
YOU GUYS INSPIRE ME!
🌝🌝🌝
🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝Big Thank You
On the money!
I was wondering if this is okay if you have minor knee pain?
I going to do this I have sciatic problem
This is a great video guys. I was in pretty good shape until about two years ago until I broke my arm
And concentrated on healing but in a mean time the rest of my body became very well eek
Does Bob have Dupuytren's contracture of the 4th and 5th fingers of the left hand? Sure looks like it!
You guys are funny!
