I fell asleep watching this video but continued watching it in my dream, and in my dream world version of this video, Rocket joined you and you guys were simultaneously drawing in a giant sketchbook 🥹
If u wanna go hardcore u could keep the supplies by your bed and do 15 mins in the morning! I like to try to start with it for as long as i feel and if i miss a day i dont beat myself up about it :-)
hearing you mention not only discipline as a key aspect of your art-working, but also mentioning your stage of menstrual cycle made me so happy!! I feel so seen as someone who is so aware of my cycle and how it relates to my creativity! knowing what stage I'm in makes my creative skills so much more adaptable and fun. Also your ideas of chasing flow resonate so much as well! I feel like INFP's can be so creative and flow-y so long as they force themselves to carve out time for themselves!
omg this is so interesting! mind if i ask how your creativity changes at different parts of your cycle? i’m wondering if my experience might be similar, ive never really made the connection! (also an infp haha)
I totally relate to the creativity changes... There's a point around/after ovulation where I'm MUCH more likely to write - thoughts, prose, silly little rhyming poems. Often in the middle of the night when I can't sleep! I have a decent idea of when it is cause my sex drive and mood skyrocket for a single day haha
@@roseways I've only just started tracking it all, but I find that creativity ramps up in the phase before ovulation (Follicular phase) and during ovulation when I'm most energised/inspired and ready to take on the challenges of begging projects. In Luteal (after ovulation and before menstruation) as it goes down I still can work consistently but am less fiercely excited as the energy goes down, but it's also a very introspective and emotional time so fun ideas come too! Menstruation is a time with small amounts of energy, during the low phase knowing that it's coming does wonders for a sense of understanding about why I'm not as motivated, and actually allows me to create more with that grace I give myself to go slow/know that more energy is coming soon!
DIY paper chains are SOOOO cute and easy to do, you can use any scrap paper and tape, and drape them anywhere! also a big fan of paper and string garlands with stars, very merry/jolly :)) also just having candles lit always makes me think of Christmastime! and you can use them any time of year.
I always procrastinate watching your videos because they're my favourite and I wanna stretch out the comfort of having them in my Watch Later for as long as I can...
Aw just watch em! There will be more eventually and you can rewatch!!! I'm thinkin' of POTENTIALLY making more than 2 videos a month next year. We'll see!
This has made me feel so inspired to get in my sketchbook again without getting scared! I always feel like it needs to be perfect but you’ve help me feel empowered to just use it as a free space
The last few videos you've pumped out have been exactly what I need at the moment. All of these nuggets of wisdom are so appreciated! I've always been bad at keeping up with a sketchbook. I struggle with allowing it to be "ugly" and free of judgement. This year I really want to get better at ditching those negative thoughts, playing more, and getting back to finding those flow states. And better time management/discipline! I get so overwhelmed with ideas of things I want to do that I freeze, and don't do anything. A friend of mine and I are planning on doing a weekly call where we keep each other accountable on personal projects. I always find having someone keeping tabs helps! I just need to settle on which projects I want to put first and quit spinning in circles. I've got good feelings about 2025!
I've been working on a graphic novel for a couple of months now, and in November I bought myself an A5 sketchbook specifically intended for my storyboards, and it's so much fun! I have the structure of scenes, writing, etc but retaining the freedom to jump around and work on what feels right is such a gift. If I don't feel like working on a scene, I can always flesh out character designs, lore, settings, studies, brainstorm snapshots of relationship dynamics. 10/10 would recommend.
So fun! It's almost like pulling pieces of your project out at different times and then tying it all together before working on final artwork. A treasure hunt!
Happy belated birthday Sha’an 🎉 I keep a sketchbook but don’t use it as often as I want. I love how you emphasize consistency/routine rather than only doing it when you feel like it. I’m taking notes! 📝
i decorated my first apartment for Christmas and didn’t want to buy so much stuff for just this one month, so i focused on candles (tall wax ones and a few scented to fill the air), pines (found stems and cones), and ribbons everywhere! adding the ribbons on plain candles or vases makes it feel cherry. Felt garlands are also my new obsession so I did buy a few of those.
Your point about making something with your hands being kind of the key for being less resistant about the less desirable tasks really spoke to me. I keep struggling to sketch on digital because I want to improve my digital art style, but really sometimes what i'm really craving is the feeling of playing with different objects, texture, etc, that little something that you really only get with traditional art :) Totally agree that my process now starts with really messy ideas, loose hand-drawn sketches and then I can see if i move it to digital or continue traditionally. Something about it is just right for me.
The orange/clove decorations smell good apparently so going to give them a go this year ♡ and no need to store. Stockings sound cute! I ADORE your girl with teddy drawing 🥰
I wish I could do that because i love clove! But cloves and even citric oil is toxic to cats so i gotsta be careful. i love spices tho 😭😭😭😭 such a cute idea!
Thank you for letting us peek into your sketchbook! 😊 Im looking into diy sustainable/compostable Christmas decorations too - have you seen apple and orange slice garlands? Chunky wooden beads or puffballs can also be used year round too. Cant wait to see what you make!
Such a wonderful video! It always gives me a warm feeling in my heart when I watch a video from you (my favorite UA-camr) 🧡 Thanks for sharing your thoughts 💫 taking of the pressure is such a good tip, needed to hear this from you, because often times perfectionism stops me from starting at all. Felt it when you were saying that you always skip the first page! I did that too, but now I put a current Polaroid of myself and the date I started and finished my notebook (I don’t really sketch that much (because I am bad at it lol) it is more a journal/diary), it brings me so much joy thinking about looking back at old notebooks and Polaroids of me at that time. I would love to see a video where you maybe talk about how or if you also journal and if not how you deal with emotional stuff, thoughts etc. because you seem like you have a very good connection to yourself 🫂 Sending you lots of love 💗
Trying to be better about play and "experimentation"... for some reason my sketchbook always turns into "idea lists" and it always frustrated me, now I'm seeing the value because I'll go back and add to the idea or word later on. Happy Birthday!!!
I'd love to see you use copics/alcohol markers next year for Peachtober!! Right now I am using a mixed media sketchbook from Bee Paper Company and I am quite enjoying it thus far!
Just started the vid but I’m so excited for this one! I’m a digital artist mainly but my sketchbook practice informs my illustration work so much - also, Martin Salisbury is one of my tutors! He’s an amazing guy :)
For Christmas decorations, I think you’d like making Polish Pająki Mobiles - Karolina Merska (Folka) has a wonderful how-to book. Pająki means spiders in Polish - they are named this for their web like shape. They were a sort of suspended Christmas tree in Polish folk homes but they were also made to celebrate all sorts of occasions and adorn cottage homes all year long :)
I like the idea of celebrating summer with my chrissy decorations! The jacarandas bloomed super early this year so my painted garland is gonna be off theme by the time we get to Christmas... But summer fruits say Christmas to me!! Especially cherries 🍒 For decorations that are compact + easy to make out of stuff you have: baubles that are two circles that slot together + a string (i cut them out of the nice peacock blue box that our giant pan for cooking 10000 leftovers came in, and painted the other side gold). You could also do those ones where you glue a stack of thin paper together and when you unfold it, it looks like a little lantern! I feel like they'd store well! I wanna make some lorikeets eating peaches, cause that's what summer is full of - shrieking and screeching and juicy juicy joy!!
I love using my sketchbook book the same way you do too :) I am a graphic designer but I’m an illustrator at heart 😊 so I like to do really sloppy logo sketches and notes next to it etc. I use currently a Nina Cosford sketchbook and I think you would like it too. It’s a thinner page sketchbook but great for notes and colored pencils and pens etc. I also like the Stratford sketchbooks that you mentioned because I love to do watercolors but this book I use for brain dumps :)
I have recently discovered the sketchbook journal "the onion skin journal" (from Sophie McPike's youtube vlog) and it has changed my experience of creating art in my sketchbook. I just love the kinda translucent qualities of the paper and how it crinkles after using watercolor. Mega ASMR experience LOL! And it can handle watercolor, gouache, and ink. And color pencils and oil pastels glide so smoothly on the paper, like butter hahaha. And because of the many pages, I don't feel precious when using it, the paper just screams FUN to me so I just really enjoy mindless scribbling on it. OK, kinda said a lot about it, but that's because of how much I really like it. So yeah, if it tickles your fancy, it can be something new to try! P.S. Thanks so much for all you share on your vlogs, really inspiring and always makes me happy. Your joy is contagious so thank you for sharing that with us. Happy Holiday Season!!!
I'm also a big sketchbook fan. I bind my own sketchbooks with different kinds of paper. The different paper types "force" me to use different art supplies aside from my regulars. Force is a unfitting word, since it's more like a fun challenge for me. I also really like the look of different textures, so putting stickers inside and paper scraps adds to this. As you also mentioned, there's room for imperfection in sketchbooks, and I whole-heartly agree with this. I do not sketch digital at all, must admit I am also not as skilled when it comes to this. I really like that, while you do a lot of digital art, you also embrace traditional work. One last thing, those apples on the page are really cute. : )
Happy (belated) birthday! I loved this video and message ❤ I’ve made a few videos talking about low pressure sketchbooks and how they’ve made such a great difference to me and my art 😅 quite a shift from having them be “pretty” Thanks for sharing. ❤
I think given your style and limited space, I think you could whip up some really cute felt ornaments! 2 flat pieces of felt, embroider or ink on a face, stuff it with fluff OR even something scented and you could use it all year round if it's not so overtly Christmasy. Like a star with a face, ya know?
the timing of this video! so i am not an artist but a couple of months ago I decided to start drawing daily and recently ive been feeling very meh about it?? I don't like the stuff I end up drawing and I don't know how to be more creative, I struggle so much to just fill the page with things. Seeing these pages you drew has me in awe, to be honest
In every artists closets are 100 of ugly page. Maybe you can start drawing what you see on your desk but in different colours. Or maybe use just one colour to be limited. And keep in mind the pages you fill don’t have to be creative. 🙂
One thing that is fun to diy is paper mache flowers!! I always start with cardboard, and wrap my shape with paper dipped in liquid starch. I switch out my flowers depending on what i think their theme is!!
❤ Such beautiful pages 🍎 This is a great timeing video for me, I love sketchbooks but have always found that I put too much pressure on it even though it’s supposed to be somewhere I feel safe to just have fun with no pressure and I stopped a long time ago 🍊But i have been feeling like getting back into it and I have just got myself this morning actually a new book I got myself a leuchtturm 1917 from watching your past videos and I want it to be a place I can put quotes I like and doodle and just have a place to put my mind on a page so this video is very inspiring to me 🍓Also just want to take the time here to say how much I love your work and your videos, I rewatch them allot they always inspire me and get me feeling creative and just bring me joy 🍉 thank you for being you 🎉
I love that illustrators sketchbook book! My tutor showed me it and watched me flip through every page until I came across his page and to my surprise, he was so happy to be included In it and wanted to show me without bragging hahaha 😅 his name is Mick Marston if you come across his page, he’s great 😊
I love these blank leuchtturm notebooks for light sketches😍although for any mixed media I prefer their sketchbook version (150g paper) even though they don't have as many pages as their notebooks 😊
I really like what you said about not being precious with the sketchbook and not focusing on the outcome. I got into the habit of buying nice sketchbooks and then putting too much pressure on myself to fill them with only nice things to make it worth it and then being unable to shake off “failures” kinda ruined sketchbooking for me. So I feel like I just need to go back to the cheapest sketchbooks I can find that will stay together so I reallt feel like I can do whatever I want in them, I wanna feel free!
Yes! I do this sometimes when i feel i'm being precious with watercolour paper or art supplies - i use cheap kids supplies so i get used to trusting being playful. From what you've said I think it could really work for you - and when you're comfy doing that you can try the nice sketchbooks again. I think it's important to remember that sketchbooks (at least for me) are about the process and what that gives me and makes me feel than the end result!
i just started a sketchbook that i am going to (try) to draw every day in it for a year!! ive already missed a few days when life is busy but i dont beat myself up about it :•) its just about consistency and drawing once a day! and im keeping it low pressure so not every piece needs to be amazing
I get what you mean about not wanting stuff that you only use once or twice a year that’s why I prefer to decorate for the seasons so when you put something out it stays for a few months. think it would be so cute for you guys to go to one of those paint your own pottery places and you could paint the same thing together.
Sketchbooks are my number 1 way of creating art, literally do it every single day whenever I have a moment (most of my sketches are just 1/2 minute sketches from life these days) My most recent setup is using an A5 hobonichi folder - I can fit a Midori MD A5 plain notebook in there, and it’s a reasonably priced sketchbook with plenty of sheets and can hold all mediums well (even watercolour). The Hobonichi has space to carry cards, cash and a pen so it’s something that always lives in my handbag and I whip it out even when I’m outside the home (I’m not fussed about it being full of good artwork, or even just art, I’ll stick in photos and jot down notes and to do lists as well - I’m a super sentimental person, so to me even just really mundane things like that create a time capsule for me and my loved ones to look back on) I’ll often have multiple sketchbooks going at once, like at the moment I have a watercolour sketchbook that I’m using to do quick sketches of landscapes when I’m out in the country or at the beach, just wherever has a nice view I think we all just need to stop feeling like we’re obligated to share EVERYTHING as modern creatives, your audience isn’t entitled to everything you create - feel free to play and make crap, it doesn’t need to look good. And tbh when you look back on it after some time I find that it suddenly looks good to you and it can be inspiring ((I didn’t mean to rant, I’m so sorry 💀🫶))
Yes you're great at keeping a loose sketchbook - the gesture in ur spreads are fun to see! I agree, we shouldn't feel pressure! Although wonderful things do come from sharing your process I must say hehe! I owe my career to it in part! Hope you're well and that school is good!
I started sketching daily again a few weeks ago while in the psy hospital. I love my moleskine, I have to like the paper or i’ll don’t sketch in it. Never tried the leuchttrum but look simular paper wise. My goal is to start a new sketchbook on January 1
I made these gnome ornaments last year out of yarn. They’re really easy to make and you can customize the colors as you like 😉 DIY Gnome Ornaments ua-cam.com/video/bByDSivVqbU/v-deo.html
I absolutely love sketching! And I love seeing other people’s sketches 👏👏👏 might just have to buy that book. I use the cheapest sketchbook I can find, because then I’m not worried about making mistakes. I have found several crafty Christmas decorations so I’ll send u them on Instagram. Thanks for another great video❤
I use a molskine A5 Sketchbook I use pen I skip the format 2 pages I love other sketchbooks tooI'm not faithful to one it depends I use my sketchbook to get better at drawing and I do a small bit each day 😊
Leuchtturm is actually not Dutch, but German and means lighthouse. And to be honest both of your pronaunciation was wrong. I think english speakers can’t pronaunce „eu“ and „ch“ correctly.
Hi! I thought there are some similarities to dutch and german because sometimes rocket understands parts of german but he only understands dutch (it was worth a shot since english is more different that dutch). I think it makes sense we only pronounced it in the way we would read it don't you think?
@ Yes there are similarities to dutch and german, but it’s still different. :) You pronounced „ch“ like „k“ and I think in dutch it’s correct but in german we pronounce it with „ch“. It’s really difficult to describe, because it’s something you need to hear to understand. In Dutch for „I“ you would say „Ik“ but in German it’s „ich“. And to be clear I’m not mad about your ponaunciation, I just thought I‘d let you know that it’s not as correct as you thought.
I fell asleep watching this video but continued watching it in my dream, and in my dream world version of this video, Rocket joined you and you guys were simultaneously drawing in a giant sketchbook 🥹
Oh my god i love this. Maybe i'll have to make it happen some day!
Oh my god i love this. Maybe i'll have to make it happen some day!
I look forward to that! You guys made some really cool collaborative art! 💛
this is literally my only goal for 2025 lol, keeping a consistent sketchbook and not trying to put pressure on making every spread look perfect
If u wanna go hardcore u could keep the supplies by your bed and do 15 mins in the morning! I like to try to start with it for as long as i feel and if i miss a day i dont beat myself up about it :-)
@@furrylittlepeach omg thats such a good idea thank you ☺

Thank you for mentioning your phase, because I’m right at the end of my luteal and I can’t make myself doing anything and I’m feeling guilty about it
I really like what you said about not being precious with the sketchbook and not focusing on the outcome.
@@furrylittlepeach that’s such good advice actually, I’ll definitely try digging out my childhood crayons! :)
i just started a sketchbook that i am going to (try) to draw every day in it for a year!! ive already missed a few days when life is busy but i dont beat myself up about it :•) its just about consistency and drawing once a day! and im keeping it low pressure so not every piece needs to be amazing

I get what you mean about not wanting stuff that you only use once or twice a year that’s why I prefer to decorate for the seasons so when you put something out it stays for a few months. think it would be so cute for you guys to go to one of those paint your own pottery places and you could paint the same thing together.
What a cute colorful spread!! Where did you link the materials? I can't find it 😭
LOVE 1917!!!🥰🤩SKETCHBOOK
Sketchbooks are my number 1 way of creating art, literally do it every single day whenever I have a moment (most of my sketches are just 1/2 minute sketches from life these days)
My most recent setup is using an A5 hobonichi folder - I can fit a Midori MD A5 plain notebook in there, and it’s a reasonably priced sketchbook with plenty of sheets and can hold all mediums well (even watercolour).
The Hobonichi has space to carry cards, cash and a pen so it’s something that always lives in my handbag and I whip it out even when I’m outside the home (I’m not fussed about it being full of good artwork, or even just art, I’ll stick in photos and jot down notes and to do lists as well - I’m a super sentimental person, so to me even just really mundane things like that create a time capsule for me and my loved ones to look back on)
I’ll often have multiple sketchbooks going at once, like at the moment I have a watercolour sketchbook that I’m using to do quick sketches of landscapes when I’m out in the country or at the beach, just wherever has a nice view
I think we all just need to stop feeling like we’re obligated to share EVERYTHING as modern creatives, your audience isn’t entitled to everything you create - feel free to play and make crap, it doesn’t need to look good. And tbh when you look back on it after some time I find that it suddenly looks good to you and it can be inspiring
((I didn’t mean to rant, I’m so sorry 💀🫶))
Yes you're great at keeping a loose sketchbook - the gesture in ur spreads are fun to see!
I agree, we shouldn't feel pressure! Although wonderful things do come from sharing your process I must say hehe! I owe my career to it in part!
Hope you're well and that school is good!
Two in two days! Is it already Christmas?! 🎄🥰
I started sketching daily again a few weeks ago while in the psy hospital. I love my moleskine, I have to like the paper or i’ll don’t sketch in it. Never tried the leuchttrum but look simular paper wise. My goal is to start a new sketchbook on January 1
Omg! Where did you get the Snoopy timer???? ❤
From Kiddyland in Tokyo! They're a retailer so you might be able to find one online 🙏🏼
I made these gnome ornaments last year out of yarn. They’re really easy to make and you can customize the colors as you like 😉

I use a molskine A5 Sketchbook I use pen I skip the format 2 pages I love other sketchbooks tooI'm not faithful to one it depends I use my sketchbook to get better at drawing and I do a small bit each day 😊
Just get a string of lights and make a tree on the wall. No tree needed. Can hang wire and across and add ornaments. Easy small amount of storage
I actually don't want a tree for now - I basically want things to hang around :-) maybe some stockings and a bunting or something
do your markers bleed through on your sketchbook?
If I use them heavily you can see them on the backside but it doesn't bleed onto the other page if that makes sense?
Don’t those alcohol markers bleed through a lot onto other pages in your sketchbook?
I am also wondering about this !!! luv copics but they always bleed through the page 🙃
I was looking for this comment 🙊
Leuchtturm is German. Pronounced Loy-shhh-tu-R-mm. It literally means "light tower" aka lighthouse
Omg cool! Ty for clarifying! 🙏🏼✨️
Pronounced 'loy shtrum'
Ty!
Not for nothing there are lots of christmas decor idea if you look up pagan traditions that are all natural
Oooh hot tip! Ty!!!
You pronounced „ch“ like „k“ and I think in dutch it’s correct but in german we pronounce it with „ch“.
