Sorry for the soon to be dead spot in audio from 5:38-8:14! Creator of the music apparently moved over to hooksounds, so basically the music is no longer free to use and I had to delete it.
If you do this again, you can get a leather conditioner that rehydrates the leather and prevents it from cracking and drying out and getting nasty. You can put it on once a year or so and it just keeps the leather really soft and hydrated and stop it from getting bad.
Good job... you can get the seat belts 100% brand new clean again... very quickly and very easily.... I am a 15 year master car detailer.... cleaning the seat belt by hand or with a wet vacuum is a waste of time and achieves very unsatisfactory results.... the best method is with degreaser and Pressure Wash.... first wet the exterior of your vehicle to prevent any overspray degreaser affecting any surfaces ...next unbolt the bottom of the seat belts and fully pull out the seat belt as much as it goes out of the vehicle and close the door on the seat belt so it does not retract.... do one seat belt at a time.... I use undiluted commercial acid degreaser....but Spray 9 will probably work just as well or any APC cleaner undiluted .... spray both sides of the seatbelt thoroughly with the degreaser.... you can get someone to help you or you can do it by yourself.... hold the end of the seat belt so it is stretched flat against the panel of your car with one hand.... then high pressure wash one side with the other hand.... making sure to get the pressure washer fairly close to clean all dirt out thoroughly.... then open the car door... flip the seat belt 180° and close the door again to stop it retracting.... then slowly blast the other side of the seat belt making sure to slide the buckle over and blast water over the entire seat belt.... once finished place a peg on the seat belt to stop it retracting and put the seat belt back in the car to allow it to dry fully before retracting it...
yea what you do is pull them out completely and then dregrease them. then pressure wash them against the car door. after your down click them in the opposite side buckle
I just bought a '06 Suburban this past weekend and I must thank you...I have watched maybe a figth of this series and it has helped me SO much already. I made a folder to save the ones that will apply to me the most and i just keep going on the series. Thanks Matt
That leather looks beautiful! I have always loved these trucks because it was such a lush interior. It's a really good looking interior. It's no wonder replacement covers are readily available! There was a really pleasing feel that was lost when the 07 trucks came out.
Seats look great. Some nice, custom fit, seat covers will keep them nice forever. Plus.... the fitted ones are nice and comfortable. They look pretty good too.
My family has an appliance repair company & the guts of machinery are usually sharp as all get out! My husband always has cuts on his hands/arms. I’ve gotten cut just checking parts-crazy. Great job getting that dang seat cover on! Beautiful work overall 👏👏👏
Yes you are correct about the sharp edges of the frame. As for the seat heaters, the worse the short gets, the quicker it will shut off. When it breaks it will shut off the passenger seat also. I used new foam from Seat Shop and a new heating pad. Well worth the effort.
I wasn't able to comment on the previous video where you were cleaning the carpet in this vehicle, so you get it now: Bissell carpet cleaner with OXY sold at Lowe's will take out the brown stains like MAGIC. I've used it on a couple of cars, one of which the people we bought it from had already scrubbed and scrubbed and weren't able to even touch the stains. The car smelled clean but looked awful from all the stains. We sprayed the Bissell with Oxy, gave it a medium scrub, and the stains came right out. The Tahoe is looking fantastic! Thank you for restoring it!
It makes no sense how much I enjoy watching these cleaning videos. Made me go out and clean my interior. Outside looked like crap, but the inside was factoryish fresh. Lol.
Chemical guys is the BEST. I love their products. Seriously. Baseball season and taking 3 dogs around all the time, it’s the ONLY thing that makes my car look, and smell amazing.
You must be proud ! You did a GREAT job ! I watched all your other detailing video`s of this SUV, and you worked your a$$ off. It looks awesome bro. At 200K miles, you may want to look over the frame and make sure it`s not rusting. You may need to scuff the frame with a wire brush, and spray it with a primer/paint. I`ve had to do that on my trucks in the past, but here in Tennessee, when it snows they spray salt on our streets, which is really bad under neath a car or truck.
Bryan: They do the same in N.Y. I lost a 1976 Maxima Wagon because of a rusting frame. It was only 15 years old and had less than 150k miles. Held the road beautifully and the 6 cylinders went from 0 to 60 in a heartbeat. Too bad they stopped making those wagons. I would have bought another one.
FWIW, for seat belt cleaning, use warm water & Woolite mix in a 5 gallon pail and just massage the belt in the mix until completely clean. Then a warm water rinse of clear water. I do this on a layer of thick towels so drips don't matter. So satisfying when it's perfectly clean.
Thanks for the vid. Used the same process on my 05 GMC YxL and it worker great. Seats came crazy clean and I swapped the lower seat cover and it looks great.
Wow, great job! Thanks for showing your entire process, good and bad. I was looking to pay someone to redo my 05 Tahoe but now willing to give it a shot.
That was a lot of work Matt you need a vacation Lol, but when you take the seat apart again to replace the heating element make sure that the seat cover is nice and warm this will make it easier to get back on !
Try leatherique rejuvinator on the seats you are keeping the stuff is amazing I bought seats from a wrecking yard that were in great condition but were as hard as cardboard and now they feel brand new. It's also for maintenance as well so your seats dont dry out and tear or crack
I work for Cadillac and have replaced hundreds of seat covers on the 2000-2006 body style trucks. You can get the heating elements without the cushion. And the trick about getting the cover on tight is to use a heat lamp and pre-heat the over to make it easier to get the cover on
Sorry Matt! It may be worthwhile putting an ad on Craigslist or Facebook to look for them .. I really appreciate how you redeem these vehicles...Great luxury and performance for a budget price. Good for you and your viewers. No loans to pay back!
Love how well this turned out. I'm about to get a Yukon XL from a impound lot. belonged to a addict, ragged out like this but alittle worse. These videos have been a great inspiration and good info to help me with my project.
You can get an ‘04 Monte Carlo GM aftermarket steering wheel on eBay. It looks mean, has the controls. Found one new for $70. Almost grabbed it for myself but a wood grain quick release is my choice. The Grant ones are $150 plus the conversion kit. Definitely subbing.
Great work! Extend those seatbelts past the door, close it and then hit them with a pressure washer. When dry, wipe in pledge or silicone spray on the belt itself...it sounds strange but will retract quicker.
Douglass Martindale: Silicone spray was used on my 22-year old Volvo wagon and it saved me a lot of money not having to replace the gears on the seatbelts. It really works.
upholstery attachment from a rug doctor for the seat belt I'd say ,, also my mum used to use shoe polish on the cracks of the leather sofa she had as the leather eats it a few coats rubbed in, it takes the edge off x
design_girl33 try some pledge with a brush to agitate it. It lubricates the seatbelt well and makes it feel smooth. It also pulls out a lot smoother too as it the pledge helps act as a lubricant for the gears inside
Hey dude the Tahoe is coming out nice I use zymol leather cleaner and conditioner. The leather cleaner with hot water and a brush makes quick work out of the dirty seats. I was gonna also suggest a led interior light upgrade it makes the interior look so nice. I bought a pack of of 6 for the doors and the map light and some dome light kits for about 30$. Keep those videos coming dude
I like the fact that you use that stiffy brush for that job, gets the job done faster.. I hate when people use those small stencil brushes, time is money
Good video.. I wish I had some of those steering wheels left, I picked up a lot of brand new OEM takeoffs from a conversion company some years ago and sold them all on ebay dirt cheap. I also wouldn't go recovering the seats just because the color coat is coming off. You can re-coat them yourself with a kit from SEM (I get my materials from vinylpro.com) and they look good as new and it doesn't cost nearly as much as all new leather.
Go get a junkyard passenger bottom foam and heating element. I’m 90% sure you can use it on the drivers side. I have done this with a Chevy express van, only difference was an airbag sensor.
A heat gun would have helped with getting the seat bottom on the foam. And yes. Grant does make a couple of steering wheels. I have one for my 03 silverado. Same style as yours but a little more custom.
Try with warm water and liquid detergent, pull them out all the way, put it in bucket of hot water and detergent, leave it for an hour and dry them afterwards. It'll fix the retraction and clean them from oils, dirt and grime.
Gee Matt , I just bought a 2005 Z71 yesterday and will be doing all the same cleaning. It looks like there was a daycare center in it...crayons , spills , funk everywhere. M y truck is the same color too...I guess it was popular.
Nice videos I have a 04 suburban nice job cleaning it up If you do a video in the future about an aftermarket radio with 4 channel amp please do a detailed write upon how to bypass the factory amp thnx
For the seat belts, I have used warm water with a hint of dreft and a cloth. then followed by a clean warm water to rinse. I am sure you have already cleaned the seat belts.
for the seat belts, pull them out all the way and out the door. Close the door on them to hold them out. Then on top of clean concrete scrub then down and hose them off with pressured water.
You can buy stickers that go over the buttons on Amazon. I bought them for 2 of my suburbans and they work really well and look nice. I have an 05 burban and a 2011 burban. Before I got the 2011 I had a second 05, but we traded it in for the 2011. I love my suburbans!! Now I know how relatively easy it is to change the seats I for sure will. Have you had any issues with the lifters? Both my 05 suburbans have had issues, they would tick REALLY bad!
FYI the seatbelts are not retracting because of the dirt on them. I had that same issue and clean the belt and a retracted perfect so it's the dirt on the Belt that causes them to stick.
It’s amazing how clean they came broke they look brand new wasn’t the brush too abrasive for the leather? What happens if you have a perforated leather
Can you give me a link for a socket to remove front seats. I know there's a lot of confusion about Torx vs Torx Plus and Star and E-sockets, and on and on.
Zimrian Zimrian it’s not blood, blood coagulates and would have left hard brown stains, this was coke or Pepsi. Also if it was blood, why was there none on the seats
To clean the seat belts use hot water and loundry soap in a bucket and let the sit for about 15 minutes then take them out and let them dry it will also fix the issue with them retracting.
Matt, love your videos on the Tahoe! I have a supercharged joe Gibbs Chevy Tahoe and was wondering if you’ve ever cleaned the engine bay before and would it affect the supercharger? Would you happen to have any videos? Also, have you ever reupholstered the ceiling to the Tahoe? Thanks!
When you shampoo just put as much water as you can into the carpet the amount of solution you put in will determine how deep and how clean the carpet actually gets I deal with heavy salt and stains that might as well just be thrown away everyday at my work
Just found your channel, love the work that you do. How’s the engine run? I know some Tahoe’s are known for engine problems, but some run like champs. But great videos earned a sub and hope to see more videos!
It just turned over 213,000, and it runs perfect. I mainly bought the truck based on how clean and rust free the body was, and the price. I was expecting to have to do mechanical repairs. I put 2,000 miles on it so far, with nothing more than wiper blades and a battery!
Pull the seat belt all the way out and set a pan of clothes washing detergent (Gain) and warm water on the seat and put the belt in it. Use a brush to clean it and let it soak for two hours. Then rinse the belts in clear water in the pan. Use a clothes pin or vise grips to keep the from retracting. Dry with a towel and leave out to dry. Then they will retract easy too!
To clean your seat belts all you need is: clamps, degreaser, and a bucket. Clamp the seat belt all the way out and dunk the belt in the bucket filled with hot water and a bunch of degreaser. Let it sit over night. Next day hold the seat belt out of the truck and close the door then spray the seat belt with a high pressure washer. This will super clean your belt and it will retract back so fast from then on.
Hey Matt first time viewing your channel, Try some silicone spray after you clean those seatbelts. Also, check out the sweet project car channel for some good tips filling and coloring the cracks on the seat back.
not sure how to clean the belts but pull the belt ALL the way out and spray it with pledge and let it run back in, it will libricate the gears inside there. also try a heat gun on the black faded plastic on the outside, it will pull the oils out and make it shine again
Use dawn platinum dish sopa bucket warm water towels soak 15-30min and clips so the seat belt wont retract, still a little dirty let soak again. Good as new
Great job on the seat covers replacement. May I make a recommendation? If you upgrade the tranny cooler lines, I def suggest getting a bigger tranny cooler. The Tru cool trans coolers are a good candidate. Heat kills that 4l60 and the cooler it runs the longer it will live, not to mention you'll also be towing. To get rid of the soft shifts and increase longevity of the trans, I would also intsall the Vette servo. It about twenty bucks and it's well worth it. Also, speaking of towing, I would also look into the hydroboost swap if that SUV doesn't have one already. Night and day difference and it won't make you "hole" pucker up when you have a hard braking situation. With the hydroboost, braking is effortless. You can order one new or source one from your local pick n pull for about 100 bucks. Several write ups on Tahoeyukonforum (tyf) and performance trucks.net From one GMT 800 owner to another, it's a great platform and I hope you enjoy it!!! I have a Yukon Denali with an lsa blower on it. I absolutely love it!
I actually have a Tru-cool ready to go in. I ordered the fittings and bracket from a guy on PerformanceTrucks.net so I can retain the factory quick connects. Hope to have it installed soon! There will be a video on it👍
Also, I'm glad you mentioned cleaning the seat belts, because they looked awful! If you figure out how to clean them, show us! (Unless I missed a video where you did)
Sorry for the soon to be dead spot in audio from 5:38-8:14! Creator of the music apparently moved over to hooksounds, so basically the music is no longer free to use and I had to delete it.
Matt how has the vinyl seat been? I have heard that it gets super hot and it becomes an issue. Any cons in getting vinyl vs leather
Juan Bader its been great, I haven’t noticed a change in heat.
Appreciate it! Gonna order them tomorrow
What products are you using to clean your seats
It's still there...
My gosh why are these car cleaning videos so relaxing to watch??
Great work, the car looks beautiful now!!
Agreed

mzjackofalltrades21 honestly, no. I haven’t used it in a long time as I haven’t needed too :(
mzjackofalltrades21 Try some Leatherique.

I will try this!
Thank you!!!! I would’ve wasted my time wet vacuuming it, but your idea sounds so much better!!
Thank you sir, I will be doing this to my seatbelts!
They sell seat belt material on ebay. Wouldn't that be easier?
Pressure washer for the seat belts. Once they are clean the will be so much softer and retract like new!
Saturating seat belts weakens them dramatically. Not worth the risk
Jyuukai do you know how strong a seat belt is though I think he’ll be just fine
Jyuukai I used to use seatbelts to pick up engines lol, they work better than chains
Weak or not, I'd keep water away from any of the seatbelt mechanism. You don't want that stuff rusting out.
yea what you do is pull them out completely and then dregrease them. then pressure wash them against the car door. after your down click them in the opposite side buckle
Your detailing videos help me go to sleep. Not in a bad sense like boring. It's so relaxing to watch It helps me fall asleep. Nice work

God this video series of your project on this truck is wanting me to do a project of my own possibly a 99 Tahoe or a 04 Escalade, your work is dope af
Try leatherique rejuvinator on the seats you are keeping the stuff is amazing I bought seats from a wrecking yard that were in great condition but were as hard as cardboard and now they feel brand new. It's also for maintenance as well so your seats dont dry out and tear or crack

Matt, don't be afraid to buy used seats from the upullit yard for some of the interior....especially as an option for the rear.
Unfortunately there aren’t any good u pull it’s within a 2 hour drive.

Dang.... That is alot of hard work.. Good job!!! Hope you got some love that night !!
This is looking real good, matt! Can't wait for more!
Subscribed from your carpet cleaning video . Awesome work dude.
upholstery attachment from a rug doctor for the seat belt I'd say ,, also my mum used to use shoe polish on the cracks of the leather sofa she had as the leather eats it a few coats rubbed in, it takes the edge off x
Steam cleaner works great for opening the pores of leather or vinyl also works great for cleaning carpet
Looks great! If you could do a seatbelt video, I would SO appreciate it. That seems to be my nemesis in regards to detailing.
design_girl33 try some pledge with a brush to agitate it. It lubricates the seatbelt well and makes it feel smooth. It also pulls out a lot smoother too as it the pledge helps act as a lubricant for the gears inside
Hey dude the Tahoe is coming out nice
I use zymol leather cleaner and conditioner. The leather cleaner with hot water and a brush makes quick work out of the dirty seats.

Go get a junkyard passenger bottom foam and heating element. I’m 90% sure you can use it on the drivers side. I have done this with a Chevy express van, only difference was an airbag sensor.
I would have honestly ordered the seat warmers and waited to do the seats. That was hell and I was only watching it. Looks great
The sides and bottom is actually vinyl and therefore has no dye. The color is made into the material. Looks great
Is anybody else gonna say anything about his "butt friction" comment? I about died!!
pennsylvania_yankee: Me, too. I didn't know anyone else caught that. Great expression!
A heat gun would have helped with getting the seat bottom on the foam. And yes. Grant does make a couple of steering wheels. I have one for my 03 silverado. Same style as yours but a little more custom.
Looks good, I’m motivated to do my seat on my 2001 Denali
Cleaning business here we come great job 💪 💪 💪 ☝
u should consider a magic eraser next time to clean your seats or trim pieces, and i would also recommend a carpet die that thing will look like new
Try with warm water and liquid detergent, pull them out all the way, put it in bucket of hot water and detergent, leave it for an hour and dry them afterwards. It'll fix the retraction and clean them from oils, dirt and grime.
these seats have seen some things for sure...
Butt friction cleaning 😂
Love the progress! Black floor mats would’ve looked a little better though.
This truck has spent a week or two in Compton.
TheSoloAsylum I would have said an hour or two.

For the seat belts, I have used warm water with a hint of dreft and a cloth. then followed by a clean warm water to rinse. I am sure you have already cleaned the seat belts.
Surprised that 200,000 mile foam still looked so good
Pledge furniture polish works good on seatbelts to help them retract.
Should be able to get 5-6 grand for this. Great work! Run some seafoam trough the motor and a motor and trans oil refresh........be like new
for the seat belts, pull them out all the way and out the door. Close the door on them to hold them out. Then on top of clean concrete scrub then down and hose them off with pressured water.

Lifters seem fine. It has the usual piston slap when cold, but it goes away after like 20 seconds.
👍 for hard work with rolling those edges.
Just started watching the video already loved it still haven't got into a minute in it
this is actually very good.
Nice video LsxMatt. Auto seat replacement get there leather from the company I work for . I deliver that to them. nice!

What engine problems are they known for Matthew?
Love your truck!!!
Can you make a video on replacing the back seat covers? Never been able to and want to learn how to. Would really appreciate it
Pull the seat belt all the way out and set a pan of clothes washing detergent (Gain) and warm water on the seat and put the belt in it.
You make me want to do so much to my suburban 🤣
Me too bro lol
Hey Matt first time viewing your channel, Try some silicone spray after you clean those seatbelts.
Also, check out the sweet project car channel for some good tips filling and coloring the cracks on the seat back.
not sure how to clean the belts but pull the belt ALL the way out and spray it with pledge and let it run back in, it will libricate the gears inside there. also try a heat gun on the black faded plastic on the outside, it will pull the oils out and make it shine again
Great video Matt!
Should use some spray paint on the stains well, carpet spray. It helps. Just make sure it matches -professional detailer of 3 years owning business
Hi! Really good job! Is there such a cover for the seat back?
Several write ups on Tahoeyukonforum (tyf) and performance trucks.net
From one GMT 800 owner to another, it's a great platform and I hope you enjoy it!!! I have a Yukon Denali with an lsa blower on it. I absolutely love it!
I actually have a Tru-cool ready to go in. I ordered the fittings and bracket from a guy on PerformanceTrucks.net so I can retain the factory quick connects. Hope to have it installed soon! There will be a video on it👍
Next time warm the seat up by letting them sit in the sun or using a space heater or heat gun even a hair dryer
I feel like that would help
Also, I'm glad you mentioned cleaning the seat belts, because they looked awful! If you figure out how to clean them, show us! (Unless I missed a video where you did)
I came here for the title it made me laugh out loud, my dog looked at me like i had gone insane lol
