Yep, this is the definition of polishing a turd. Though I'm guessing as it's Larry's friend, he got mates rates because Larry got video content out of it.
I was about to say something like 'the emotional value is bigger' but someone who has an emotional bond with his car wont let it get this filthy - which is not a bad thing, people are different
@mike johnson It would almost certainly require actually going over the interior thoroughly afterwards to avoid... well, what happened here. Rust, dirt thrown around elsewhere, moldy carpets...
Hey Ammo;do you have some sort of location or business card for possible customers? I really would like a quote and possible cleaning of any family’s old SUV that will become mine soon
@@AMMO-NYC Thanks Larry. Been watching you grow for years. Thank you for keeping it real for us shade tree guys. I learn something new with each video.
Just a tip for the headliner repair part. I used to work in an interior shop and these chevys were notorious for this... The headliner isnt falling down because the original glue is bad, its falling down because the foam backing has disintigrated. You have to use a scuff pad to get rid of as much of that decaying foam before you can glue it back up like he is. if you dont get rid of the foam first, its just gonna come back down in a few days
I've found they trap a lot of moisture under them. If you're in and out during the rain you'll need to remove them an make sure the carpet is dry underneath.
@@Hammerjockeyrepair m8, have you like never seen a vehicle with over 100k in your life? Most of the vehicles that my family owns or have owned in the past hit well over 200k. My 2010 Sebring has 230k miles, brothers 2006 G6 hit 200k last week, dads old 2003 Ram 1500 hit 210k before he sold it, uncles 2004 or 2005 Buick (unsure of the model) had 290k and the transmission was just starting to slip. Love this Larry! I think one of the issues with vehicles in this type of condition is owners are often unwilling to make the investment, because the car is probably valued at, or less than, the cost to have the work done.
I love that you're able to show all the techniques you use in detail without worrying about giving away trade secrets. The secret is you have to have a ton of experience like you do. I could try these techniques on my own- but unless I take it to a pro, I won't get the same results. You really do amazing work! No “detailers” can truly call themselves detailers when put up against the jobs you do. There are people who clean cars, but very few who detail like this. Well done!!
This video couldn't be any more relevant to me, thank you for going so far in depth with this detailing. I purchased a heavily used Yukon that STUNK of chemicals from the inside. I spent a weekend gutting the interior and dash, replacing the carpets and cleaning every piece of interior I could.
Definitely enjoy seeing detailing on some rougher cars. Not always a disaster, but seeing problems fixed that the average poorly treated used car has is very useful.
You guys make everything look amazing ! Wish I could get yous to do my 63' Chevy Nova its all original interior and exterior and needs a great cleaning .I'am sure there's lots of years of germs ☺ FYI my uncle for 30 years tought me that if you have a horrable stain on your carpet or clothing really just use Windex ! You done a really good job and giving a another level of detailing , which contains a lot more techniques than just detailing . Really enjoy and thankful
I love that ammo only puts out quality videos and doesn't feel the need to weekly post with mostly junk filler content in an effort to get more views. May be more expensive, but I want to support the quality FREE content he's putting out.
Your professionalism is insane, I'm really not into car detailing but the way you do your work is honestly art to my eyes. Looking forward to see how you organize all your tools and equipment. 👌👌 Keep it up you are amazing.
Hi Larry, and thanks for sharing this particular video. Yes, I DO enjoy the high-end stuff you do but for those of use who really enjoy taking something and making it better/improving it/extending its life, this video was perfect! Keep them coming, as I learn something new each time I watch one of your videos.
Larry, It amazes me how as detailers we can post videos of really cool cars, what always grabs the attention of the viewers and subscribers is a normal car that's brought back to life. Great work by the way.
It’s fun to watch the dirty ones too. Also, being from Michigan (salt belt) I’ve noticed vehicles suffer from floor pan rot from the top down. It’s typically from salty slushy boots during the winter, and the lack of rubber floor mats. Parking lots and sidewalks are covered in salt and other corrosive chemicals in the winter to protect from icing. With no rubber floor mats to catch the wet salty boot drippings, the salt water from the boots sink into the carpet and rest on the floor board paint. After a few winters, the floor boards rust out. Rubber mats are the best way to protect from this along with regular cleaning under the carpets. Keep it clean!
Love these kind of videos! Bringing back older more common cars!

Bro! This job was disgusting, but good for you for tackling it like a professional. As a Southern Californian, I can't even imagine how anyone could keep a 17 year old Suburban like this, much less expect anyone to detail it for them. But there you are, out in New York, dealing with weird East Coasters who think this type of lifestyle is totally normal. God bless you brother, and thank you for making these videos so that other cultures can see what you have to deal with. Amazing stuff!
Cool video! Though I'm 4 years late seeing it... REALLY enjoyed this one as it was a detail on a REGULAR car and you went the distance on getting it to look respectably good again!! Great work and thanks for posting!!
This was cool, I loved the “thorough but appropriate for the vehicle” approach. I love your specialty detail videos, but this was a fun change of pace.
Love the rust stopping sealant idea.. guy seems happy enough with the result. Probably could have gone for some bed-liner over the treated floors. Would have held up quite a bit longer than the painted surface
Another amazing job with AMMO! Thanks for the video. Way out of the normal vehicle range and back to where it all began with regular keeps. The only professional that does not need to do work vehicles at this point in your career. Not to big or to proud to do great work at all times.
Thank You Larry. Unique undertaking. Always Learning. The effort put in, maybe rattle can Truck Bed Liner on top of what you guy's did?...and of course a polite "No more Pressure Washing the floor boards". :)
More of these types of videos, please! I had to clean a 98 4runner with 216k miles on it that my dad is trying to flip, this video would have been super helpful beforehand. 😁
Larry, that was a great video! I have a few work vehicles and that gives me hope for a successful detailing on them! Keep up the great content and thank you for doing such a great job!
Some WeatherTech rubber formed mats would be the perfect thing for that guy’s Tahoe. The front floors fit from edge to edge and the center floorboard mat goes from door to door and they make one for the back area too. Not only do they have raised edges to trap and hold liquids like melted snow, mud or in his case dog pee. But they are easily removed and cleaned. It would save that guy a lot of work and be so much easier to clean.
Love the videos you put out, especially ones about tips for cleaning certain types of things in a car. Can always check back with your channel if I need to know how to clean my leather seats or how to buff out a clear coat scuff!
You guys are amazingly thorough , I'll give you that! But I HAVE to know what this entire job cost the customer in LABOR.....the work on the carpets alone had to have cost more than the $300 a set of brand NEW carpets cost. The headliner as well probably wouldve been easier to REPLACE for under $100 material cost (I just completed my own 03 tahoe) , since the trim was all already removed for re-covering the lether seats
In my shop, we used to Spray paint floorboards when ever there were milk spills or spills where there was a lasting odour. The paint seals the metal and does a good job of masking the residual smells.
It's a good idea to pull a door sill panel once in a while and check your floor. My truck had a bad back window seal and my carpet was perpetually wet and that wetness would creep. I had to remove the seats and carpet and paint my floors as you did.
