About the music:
The concerto’s three movements run without a break, each being separated from the other by means of a trumpet fanfare. After the briefest of orchestral introductions, but one not devoid of a certain drama, the piano bursts in and the first movement continues in tempestuous mood for a while until the piano introduces a more graceful idea. When the orchestra plays this new theme the piano flutters around happily, and throughout the movement the piano and orchestra indulge in a kind of non-combative dialogue, never competing with each other for dominance, but sharing the good ideas in equal measure.
Among Mendelssohn’s best-loved piano pieces are several sets of “Songs Without Words”, and much of the charming, song-like character of those pieces is found in the lyrical second movement, based on an enchanting theme initially announced by the lower strings. Mendelssohn’s best music is often characterised by a lightness of mood and an almost bubbly texture, typified by this concerto’s tuneful, energetic, and disarmingly innocent third movement. At the age of 22, when he wrote this work, Mendelssohn was well into his maturity as a composer, but his musical ideas were still infectiously youthful.
Alexandra Dovgan, what you have achieved in your 11 years of life is so much more than many people can achieve in a life time, you are a unique talent and prodigy, a genius I should say, you play with the wisdom of an adult and the playfulness and energy of a young child, the technique is superb, absolute, and your musicality that of an old soul, I am in awe of what I just saw, and congratulate you from the bottom of my heart for your talent and hard work, you, your parents and your teachers. You are such a joy to watch, may God continue to bless you in this road you have taken so passionately, and be a blessing to all that listen to you. Your fingers are flying with an unmatched technique. Bravo young girl!
Lovely words, but her performance is choppy and lacking touch touch of that "old soul" your refer too.
@@WKYanks I want to listen to your students. If you have American education i can imagine what is going on during your lessons. 👎

@@ruzannavanesian7182 Yeah, you can teach "old soul"...
@@WKYanks rubbish!
There's no one in this whole wide world that could hold a candle to her.
Enchanting! It makes all the difference that she is playing the music rather than playing the piano; many performers much older than she is don't seem to have learned that lesson.
How well put, Raúl, i learnt from you such a great distinción.
Thank you!
From the very first chords you sense her complete command of the keyboard and confidence in the performance, and I feel this for everything she plays.
Yep.....
Великолепно! НА Р О Я Л И ...

you first have to master the piano as a medium then focus on the music itself
Much as I love Yuja Wang's supercharged performance, I think this is closer to what Mendelssohn would have wanted it to sound like. What a talent is Alexandra!
Yes, i agree, This Is Mendelssohn. Yuja has the technique, frenzied speed but not the spirit of the romántica era.
@@karennoble1168 Haha....oh yes she does...just in a very literal, immodest way. No pun intended on the term romantic haha
@@karennoble1168 yes, Alexandra, she "is" Mendelssohn, I feel he fits her soul the best.
Concuerdo, Alexandra toca cariñosamente, intentando con cada acorde pulir y seguir puliendo el sonido que ella interpreta de lo que es esta pieza, como toda romantica. Mientras que Wang intenta golpear fuerte y en base a la partitura.
Disagree, the music is marked presto and this is more lyrical than brilliant.
who else has came here after watching two set violin video. Amazing performance! Also, Self-Esteem GONE!!!!
I had to come hear the rest. she is magnificent

My self esteem is gone too!!!

When I see someone become one with music it makes this 60 year old man cry like a baby.
Same for this 63 Years old man
From the moment she starts cleaning the keyboard of her piano (00:05) until they leave the stage together (19:54) there's a charming chemistry between Alexandra and the conductor Alexander Sladkovsky. You can see by the smile on his face after Alexandra spontaneously offers mister Sladkovsky a bouquet of flowers, how happy he is for her. What a heartwarming performance. Every time I watch this video, it gets warm around my soul.
Indeed, and just imagine, despite having rehearsed with her, hearing this power, nuance, and elegance pouring out behind you - must have been mind boggling .. Very telling is the opening crescendo - it is relentless building in strength - more so than, I think, other orchestras Alexandra has played it with, and she matches it with amazing power and authority. It conveys immediately that there will be no soft peddling by either party, but a balanced account.
I know nothing, really nothing about music, but I am touched by the beauty of this music. I also saw what you mentioned. The conductor, while conducting, finds nevertheless the time to quickly turn around his head and look at her as if saying: "Super Alexandra, you're doing great!", so that she would remain confident.

She makes me think in Glenn Gould...
@@philem49 I recently read an English language review where she revealed that when very young, when she couldn't get to sleep her parents played Gould's version of Bach's "Goldberg Variations" that she loves.
@@keithtinkler4073 oh ! I'm not surprised. I think she has quite the same feeling with musique as Gould. She tries to stay very close to the "ambiance" of the partition, very intimate with the instrument, the most respective of the intentions of the composer as possible... Overall, she is completely absorbed by the music. And I am completely fascinated by her. Is the article on the net ? Best regards from France.
@@philem49 I too am fascinated by her, and for the reasons you give. The only instrumentalist who moves me to the same degree is the violinist Chloe Chua, who is six months older. Do you know of her? If not, see e.g. here ua-cam.com/video/WT9jOZLFaEY/v-deo.html
From memory!? Can you fit all those notes in your brain? Magnificent!
Easy? Sort of. The main parts are learned, the fast 16th note 4 piece runs are same method for all 4 notes, just sharps/flats and accidental changes, if you have a 4 piece line with changes then you study that exact line more than the rest. It all works out in the end!
I love how among random PUBG videos this person decided to upload an insane performance of an 11 year old at a level ill probably never achieve
I'd never heard this piece before, and what a way to discover it, through this performance!
Same!

Pienso lo mismo. Aunque la pieza en sí no me impactó mucho, la interpretación destacada de la niña y su energía como así también el acompañamiento de la orquesta me emocionaron grandemente. ❤
Me too!
I got this 4 years late, but that was amazing. A very soulful performance by this young girl. Would love to have been there to experience the live performance.

She loves this piece of music and it shows. Her teacher has every reason to be proud of her, she evidently listens. Her musicality is wonderful. I hope she continues to enjoy herself and her music because she will bless us all if she does. The applause was so well earned.
Especially at 14:14, where for a few seconds she appears to be singing and 'bouncing' on her bench. How delightfully engaging. Decorum aside - "I love this passage!"
Even when practicing just three notes I have the impression Alexandra plays with her whole soul. How fortunate we are.

Just a friendly reminder that she is 10 years old.
Why would you remind me

0:19 - Molto Allegro con fuoco
7:26 - Andante
12:37 - Presto (This part she plays so clearly and it's one of my fav excerpts of the piano repetoire)
After hearing many interpretations of this piece, I do think this is the most masterfully interpreted. The main voice of the piano just takes the stage when it makes an entry and the clearness of Alexandras playing is quite nearly superhuman. She doesn't just race through the whole thing but plays each part with tasteful delight and sophistication. Absolutely amazing for her age. Quite surely a Ling Ling...

14:12 She was so focused and passionate about the music that she just enjoyed it to the fullest to the point that she would sing and if the piano would only play those notes, she would start dancing for joy. It is at that moment when one realizes when a person is truly talented, not because they are masters of a skill but because they enjoy it and it fills them with satisfaction to do it.
She is pure magic here. The moment I saw her, heard her, I knew I was in the presence of an extraordinary talent, class, of a born pianist and only 10!
For me, the best performance of this Mendelssohn, reflecting his romantic era including the lovely period dress.thank you dear Sasha! Great conductor too!!

I agree with all the comments said about a girl that is still a child !
The child is nothing short of a freak I,
I love how proud she looks and almost runs into her teacher’s arms at the end, it shows how well their relationship is and how much respect and love they have for each other
Piano sounds absolutely fantastic. Especially on the last three octaves.
The treble on that Yamaha is really pretty.
Another prodigy well on the way to success. It would not be right to make any criticisms. Well played translation.

My head is spinning! That child is amazing! Those precious little fingers are powerful and gentle and quick, etc.
She is only 10 years old
I like the way the conductor smiles at her and nods and asks with his eyes if she's ready and she's at ease and smiles back that she's ready
My jaw literally dropped. Like the clarity is insane omg
This isn't the half of it. You should listen to the 30 minutes recital she had given a couple of days earlier.
(I will put the link in a new comment - YT doesn't like links in replies.)
This is simply glorious, all of it. The people in the audience will likely remember this fondly.
Sasha was only 11 years and 1 month old in this performance! The greatest prodigy of this generation, and destined to be one of the greatest artists, period!
I was wondering how old she is/was. She seemed super young and I was thinking, to not only be able to play like that, but to be able to memorize a 20 minute piece and have the stamina to play so vigorously, has got to take it out of you. She handled it like a champ.
Actually she was 10 years and 9 months, but never mind
(The performance was recorded in April 2018, and she was born in July 2007)
her phrasing is unbelievable, so much soul, so much content
I agree 100%!!!
A little princess and her piano as a powerful magic wand! Very impressive, a great talent! All the love for the future!💮💮
I love that comparison to the piano being her magic wand!
Her technique! My God! Amazing!
A true prodigy because she feels the musique. She plays with her heart not her head.
Pascale Lambert, maybe heart as well as head
@@PeterBrodie If you play with your head toi can't feel the music.
@@PeterBrodie i agree, she needs to keep her mind very focused, but needs her feelings for such a beautiful phrasing and musicality. That’s a extremely difficult balance to maintain, but seems natural in her at such a young age.
All can only play the notes perfectly, but not all can feel and that’s what she has.
Both. Such technique needs a lot of head work. And the technique has to be strong, secure and well-rounded in order to carry the complexity and lavishness of emotion, and get it off the ground. You can have all the heart you want, but without sufficient means of expression the emotion just wont have any wings to fly with.
This is, without a doubt, one of the coolest and most beautiful things I've ever seen. Thanks algorithm.
She's so sweet. I couldn't hold back tears of joy at the end. I'm so pleased to see such a young talent. Outstanding performance!!!

Wow - this was a good one..
@DolphinsWIthIgloos I assume you are attempting to be humorous, otherwise a dumb and very ignorant statement. Years ago, at the hight of the communist regime, when so many artists and athletes were defecting to get away from the oppression, it may have been true. But why can't they simply be good because they are good and not because of any other reason except that they are good?
This child LIVES in her music!

Alexandra is pouring her heart out...
Those little hands, flying so smooth, hitting every key with precision, that's a Musician through and through, it's enough to bring tears to one's eye, Kudos to the little lady!
Hands not so little! in an interview at about this time she smilingly showed her hands to the interviewer saying, I think, that they were large, relative to her age
I don't know why, but I keep going back to this video to listen to her beautiful and pure playing. She plays with so much passion!

Wow - few things bring me to tears but as a father of a very musical 10yo girl, to see what little people are capable of and can develop at such a young age is astonishing. To say this young virtuoso has a bright future ahead of herself would be an understatement.
And yet she doesn’t look too happy, I saw her three weeks ago…

Delightful. Beautiful gown for a young lady. Totally enjoyed this performance.
I'm not necessarily the most learned when it comes to classical music, but there's just something about the way she plays that speaks to some sort of joy and whimsy, the expressions on her face and the little bobbing and bouncing motions she makes as she plays makes the listener feel that she's totally engrossed in the music. It reflects in the way she plays. It's so much more expressive and varied in tone than what I've seen from the pianists I've gone to see who are triple her age. Damn. She's young, still, so hopefully she has a stellar and fruitful career! Would love to see her play in this person, I'm sure this is even more entrancing to witness when you're actually there.

Does it take the clear vision of youth to see the melody and emotion behind the complexity that is the strings of notes?
