This vents have are very stupid design and hard to remove. I had the same issue. I ruined my old parts as I change them to the new ones with chrome rings. Thank you for the tip!
Thank you very much for watching my video. Yes it's really not ment to come off easy. But that's a good way to eliminate rattling noises. A solid design at least! Have a good one.
Interesting. One of the vents in the back seat is broken somehow, the lower flap doesn't follow the upper flap when I open the vent so something inside must have broken. Been wondering how to disassemble the vent so this was a great video to find just now. Found a plastic part on the floor when I cleaned the car so perhaps it came from inside the vent.
I've used 3 or 4 small screwdrivers to pry them out without leaving any marks on the dashboard. It takes more time, more patiente, but the result is the same. Yours is faster but there is a greater posibilty to crack something. For other 156 owners: mk1 and mk2/3 have different dashboard material. Mk1 is better in my opinion. Actually the whole interior of an mk1 156 is better quality than the others.
@@alfaromeonoproblem I think this video explains well the types of greases: ua-cam.com/video/0tUpIV4BP-M/v-deo.html This guys swears a lot, but he knows mechanics very well. :D

You can also sand down and paint the rings with chrome paint.

I agree, i have the 1st series as well and it's better.
I don't want to use the prying method because of the marks on the dashboard.
Good video my friend but be careful lithium grease also can contain mineral oil
