I agree with Eric, soaps have never been given the respect or the admiration they absolutely deserve. I began with Dark Shadows and went from there to all the rest. They have kept me intrigued, exasperated and fascinated my entire life and I am never ashamed to admit I watch them to this day. They transported me into another place at times when in my own life, I was struggling. Those actors & crews will never even know how they saved me because of the incredible hard work they put in every day. And whenever they roll the credits, I pay attention and always watch until they end. It's my way of honoring them.
Oh geez, mother used to watch the original Dark Shadows! I didn't like it much, but I remember Barnabus being treated with something to make it so he could go in the daylight and it failed.
The Young & the Restless celebrating 50 years on CBS, while General Hospital is celebrating 60 years on ABC. You can really tell that these shows have experienced so much over the years, as well as receiving lots of warmth and appreciation, from fans, all over. I’m so thankful to see both shows, with incredible milestones, share such fond memories of working together, to make their shows what they are, today.
I watched Y&R as a young child every weekday with my grandma during the 80s. She loved her 'stories'. The theme music and the actors will always make me think of her. I love that so many of the characters are still around.
The elderly neighbors living across the street always tuned in to The Edge of Night at 4:00 every weekday and I would meander my way over to their home around 3:45 to say "hi." Of course they invited me in for milk and cookies but I was really there for the "adult" topics that were truly eye-opening to a 9 year old! This segment brought back those long forgotten moments and a smile on this lovely Sunday morning here in New York City! Thanks!
Growing up, I would visit my grandparents for 2 weeks every summer. My grandmother never missed an episode. So I eventually started watching it with her and got hooked on it. My mom used to say that she liked watching soap operas because it made her feel good knowing that her problems in life were so petty compared to theirs.
We had a friend from our Church, and she admits that she never missed an episode of All My Children, as well as another, who never missed As The World Turns (and still remembered Kennedy being shot, during one of the episodes). As I learned from those two, I thought, “my goodness”, you’ve seen the show unfold before your own eyes, after that many years.
My love for Y&R started in '84, at the age of 4😂 My aunt who watched over all the cousins in the neighborhood fed us everyday at 12:30, when Y&R came on, and after eating most of us didn't go back outside to play until 1:30, when it went off. Y&R is still part of my day, it makes me feel closer to the women I loved that are no longer here who I watched it with: my mom, my grandmothers, and my aunts.
I started watching it with my mom. Even if I can't watch it like I used to, I know it's always there, and I can jump back in at any time. I love that a lot of actors I love through the years are still there. Everyone at Y&R deserves so much respect and love for all they've given to their audience throughout these years. Wishing even more years to come.
Me too, our mom got my sis n I addicted! Especially those long Summer school breaks. Young & Restless & General Hospital top faves. I think I stopped watching after 15 years, only bc got a little too crazy with actors coming back from the dead and more adultery. But one thing for sure, when I hear the theme song for Y&R it still melts my heart and brings back so much nostalgia of my younger years. Love it till this day.
The only original actor is Doug Davidson from the beginning of the show then came Melanie Scott. Sad that Doug was not part of the reunion he was on the show for almost 50 year but they recently stopped writing rolls for him, such a mystery for such a popular character.
Mind boggling how these shows are so ever lasting and how legit actresses keep their sanity playing these ridiculous roles for decades Great theme song though!
This soap reminds me of my grandmother, she never missed an episode, everytime i was babysat by her as a kid i remember hearing the theme song so much that it gives me nostalgia now just hearing it since she passed away in 2011, still miss her everyday
I remember when I was watching during Summer times back. I went to stay at grandparent's house from school when I got sick . They are a lot of great storylines back then now I'm 36 years old now and I'm been watching since. Happy 50th Anniversary to The Young and The Restless.
Wow I can’t believe that I’m at work teary eyed. I miss my grandmother, a whole lot. She never missed an episode. I’m 48 years old now, but back then U had to watch whatever was on television, or go outside & play somewhere. Hearing the theme music took me back to 49 High St, Elyria Oh. She also loved Falcon Crest, & Dallas. I miss U grandma, & I still love U. 🙏🏿
I started watching when it first aired! My best GF turned me on to it, we were in high school! Now 63 years young and still best friends! Still watching our beloved Young and the Restless! Congratulations Y&R ❤🎭❤
The concept of the Daytime Drama was forever changed when we were introduced to the intriguing residents of Genoa City on the Young and the Restless. Since premiering in March of 1973 it has gone on to win 11 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Daytime Drama and has been the Top Rated Daytime Drama in the United States for more than 30 consecutive years.
Love Sunday morning! It's such a wonderful start to the week ahead. Thank you, CBS, for putting America in perspective for those who take it for granted.
I liked Mr Braden as Dr. Forbin in "Colossus: The Forbin Project". And not only for him but do not forget their other works that could have contributed to them in acquiring their parts on this program. The recurring and special guests that have appeared on it over the years.
As fast as they make the kids grow up on the soaps. Everyone should be 125 yrs old by now. I've never seen it without Victor and Nikki. I do want to say it was fun to watch Jill Foster and Mrs. Chancellor fight - David Hasslehof was on a soap. His name was Snapper
My friend has been watching with his buddie's, on their lunch hour, for such a long time!!!!! They would huddle around the TV, to watch, every episode!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.....
And don't forget about Y and Rs sister soap The Bold and The Beautiful, another William J and Lee Phillip Bell creation, is still going strong after it's debut March 23 1987. Top storylines featured crossover characters from Y&R such as Sheila Carter ( Kimberlin Brown) and Lauren Fenmore ( Tracey Bregman) 🌞
@@kimberlyenglehardt5770 Seems like the writers have run out of ideas, the show def needs new life blood. And it's never been the same since Susan Flannery, Ronn Moss and Hunter Tylo left 😔
my big brother and Mom got me hooked on the show as far back as the 70's. my Jr. high school was a five minute walk from the house and I would come home for lunch while my Mom watched the show..(thirty minutes long at that point) But it was around 92 while at home laid up with a broken leg that I really got hooked on the show due to Victor's disappearance in Kansas when they introduced the Hope character. The most beloved character the show has ever had in my opinion. the 90's in when the show reached it peak. the spell is broken by now. but I still have fond memories of my love for the show....,
I cant believe Victors still on it! Also Nikki. We don't get it here where i live on the other side of the world now. Also Days of our lives has been cancelled here long ago. I used go on our school run and run in the house to watch. Great memories of Victor locking up his wife's lover in the basement if i remember ? Mrs Chancellor, Loved her. Great to see this ❤
Damn, fifty? I was a 16 year old junior in high school when it debuted. I stopped watching soaps when l discovered talk shows starting with Phil Donahue while serving at my first duty in Florida in 1977.
I'm so old I listened to soaps on the radio with my mother. Then tv. But for Young and Restless itself, the roles are reversed. My wasband got hooked because of all the attractive women, when it first started. I talked my Mom into watching it, and we'd talk long distance, when rates were 25 cents a minute, about the characters as if they were real people in our lives. Was very happy when the rates went down 😆
Yeah my mom (RIP) she had her daily stories it was young and the restless, all my children, one life to live, and general hospital she would not miss any of them!! it was cool too when the young and the restless had it class and some wars was need too and seeing how it was need too and seeing bill and others was doing it now , why not seeing how even jack and his step mother and others too,
Alas the two original Y&R families, the Brooks and the Fosters are long forgotten. The only original OG character remaining is Jill (nee Foster) Abbott.
My mother and I watch General Hospital, and I’m not a heavy soap opera fan, but I still like to ask her what is going on in a certain scene. We do love Maurice Bernard, Laura Wright, Genie Francis, Kirsten Storms, and Kin Shriner.

It was so great to see Jeanne Cooper as Katherine Chancellor again. The show hasn't been quite the same since she passed away.
