having Aerith's theme continue playing while you fight Jenova is really a kick in the balls huh
My fck Heart... Im not crying, you are
It is, yeah...
@@Akkumako when I finished the remake I learned about the first game and when I saw this I started balling
@@Akkumako I played the first part to the remake though
😭😭😭
Having Aerith's theme play instead of J-E-N-O-V-A really nails in the emotional impact of her death.
It was great how they kept the song playing while you were fighting jenova, the sadness and confusion as you get thrown into the fight. I remember just wanting to slash her out of the way to get to Aeries. The sound of the spells charging. It was great.
steven Claessen so impactful I’ve always felt this as well
steven Claessen exactly
Finally !! someone who understands how impactful those small details were 💯💯
Yeah, the original was and always will be so much better!.... Graphics aside.
I honestly am going to be ballsy and say this is the best video game boss ever made...
This whole scene and battle broke my heart as a youth. The music hits you hard when the battle music doesn’t kick in and it’s all Aeriths theme.
i remember losing the fight my 1st try due to the shock and confusion of what just happened
I remember completely destroying Jenova from the anger and rage of losing her. I couldn't believe it!
The heartbeat, the way Holy drops and JUST EXACTLY with the first *PING* when it hits the ground Aerith Theme starts playing AND the following iteration of Jenova being called "Jenova LIFE".....so much and powerful symbolism here.
SE: “Don’t worry, Aerith won’t be killed by Sephiroth this time.”
Fans: “Yay!”
Sephiroth: *turns Aerith into a Jenova monster.”
SE: *”YOU* do it.”
Fans: 😱
Bringing Zack back to life was already a "what a twist" ending, but that in itself is giving us hope that Aerith may be saved from death. It would be the most devious twist in what they're already doing to the story if they lured you in with the notion that if you can change fate, perhaps you can save her too. But making her the final boss as a Jenova rather than JENOVA-LIFE showing up unexpectedly...it would be even more impactful to have that same sad melody playing. Damn, I actually want this to happen now.
@@DEADication86 I have this theory that ancient Jenova infected is related to Aerith, like her ancestor or something.
adadsdgafsgjk NO
I would be ***1,000,000,000½%*** on board with that twist of Square Enix had the balls to do pull that stunt. Like, as if the original scene weren't bad enough.
@@PatrickCervantez if their intent is to relive the emotions players got when they played FFVII, her death is necessary. Or they could let her live and kill Tifa (hopeful the fans’ outrage will set their headquarters on fire and collect the insurance) but killing Tifa wouldn’t make sense (with Aerith it did since she could communicate with the planet) and is more intune to subvert for the sake of subvertion.
It's a shame that Sephiroth's open mouth T-pose wasn't one of his victory poses for Smash. Truly a missed opportunity.
Me after killing an Aerith Mii Swordfighter
Because it's only like that in the PC version which Square Enix massively lazy ported from the original PC-Version.
It doesn't look like that at all in the PS1 original version
@@Justforvisit It looks exactly the same just without the mouth in the OG…
Sephiroth be like: T 😮
I got spoiled about Aeris' death before it happened in game when I got FF7, but not when or how.
When this came, the spoiler took none of the shock away.
Well, Zack should've dead but he still alive so....
It showed it in advent children.. I watched it before learning more about it
Nope remember he die when it began to rain
@@matiasdragonetti7345 I cannot deal with people like you who haven't even seen/played Crisis Core. Zack kills the Shinra troops, carried cloud away and is faced against the 3 troops who kill him. Jesus christ.
I saw the spoiler on the FF7 Strategy Guide. I was browsing trough the pages to see what items I could end up missing and boom!!!! Spoiler!!!! That was the longest walk from the university to my apartment... EVER!!!
Aerith was a wonderful teammate in our battles, and she was able to support us if we’re in trouble. Aerith was a very nice young lady.
She's with Zack now.
i hated her lol
@@MsValvee bruh
@@MsValvee Are you from the Jenova family? Lol
@@MsValvee she did nothing bro lol 😂
The guide book I used for the game back then, towards the end of the book, actually spoiled that Aerith died indirectly. So I knew after a few hours in that it was going to happen. I still cried like a baby and was depressed for the next few hours. Magnificent work by Square.
You can never be ready for this to happen. But it needs to.
A friend got the game and guidebook when the game first came out and the same thing happened. He didn't cared about Aerith the whole time because he looked too deep into the guide book accidentally spoiling it for himself.
The remake to my surprise changed that though. I didn't believed him when he told me he cares about her now.
I'm playing FF7 for the first time, and even though I knew Aerith was gonna die, this whole part completely wrecked me. I was bawling like a baby and I can't imagine how I would have taken it when I was younger and/or playing it completely blind.
Can't be understated how smart it was to keep the music going during the Jenova fight.
Nomura's idea. What a twisted mind he has. :P but that's part of why I love this game so much
I played the original game when it came out in 1997 I was 19 years old at the time I had no idea this was going to happen when I was playing and it caught me so offguard I was in shock when I saw her die I thought for sure especially with their relationship growing stronger and after the date he had had with her in the gondola I thought for sure they were going to have a love story that would last for the entire game this just completely ripped my heart out when I saw it I finished playing the game but for some reason I felt lost through the rest of the game even though the rest of the game we’re still good it’s somewhat had an empty feeling for me that I still feel to this day whenever I play the game that something just was taken away from the rest of the game once she dies God I am hoping that with this new timeline in the remake there may be a way to save her because I don’t know if I could take that again let me stop now because I am getting emotional all over again😢
"Anger of the Land" was such a fitting attack to begin a battle with after the death of "Aerith".
“NOOOOOOOOOO” is what I yelled the whole time. Oddly enough I knew she died, just not so soon. I thought she would die at the end of the game, so you could imagine my reaction.
Same. I was in complete denial the entire time the scene played up until the sword made contact. I was just staring dumbfounded at my screen. Not a big of Sephiroth after that.
I loved how they executed the post jenovah fight sequence.
Aeris is dead. Everyone is sad. Not one word is said. Cloud just puts her to rest in the post. No stupid expository dialog. Very well done.
The more I watched those scenes from the OG the more "masterpiece" comes to my mind
What kinda place were they at ? And why is he putting her in that little pond ?
The best part is that every character has a different reaction to Aerith’s death:
Barret pats Cloud’s back to comfort his loss
Tifa brushes Aerith’s face and cries
Red XIII howls out in sadness
Cait Sith dances in hopes of cheering Cloud up (doesn’t work)
Cid looks up to the sky as if asking “why her”
Vincent looks at both Cloud and Aerith blankly
Yuffie cries in Cloud’s arm
@@stuntbounce it’s the livestream, i do believe.

when this game came out my dad was a teenager and he loved it. when remake came out i was my dad’s age, a freshman in highschool. rebirth is coming in a few weeks and now im a freshman in college and im so excited to play it. but after watching this, if i was my dad playing the original over 20 years ago i genuinely dont know if id want to continue playing the game after this scene 😭 its genuinely the saddest death ive seen in any video game or movie franchise.
this game came out two years before i was born and i didn’t play it until i was about 8 (2007) and i remember when this happened and my whole world felt like it fell apart. went through the boss fight crying my eyes out
I was the same age as you in 1997 and it hit me hard 😢
this scene, this boss fight, the music, the feeling, thats so, so memorable, the atmosfere, so sad, i remember beating this boss while crying in tears...
One thing that always stuck out to me on this is that her mom never finds out she's dead
Actually, she does find out though it's glossed over. Reeve tells her and all we get is a bit of text from Cait Sith in game.
I am very much looking forward to a scene where Cloud has to confront Elmyra after this in the remake.
@@Cephas she still never Said goodbye
She does, Cait sith told her about it
She did find out. In the novel, Elmyra has Cloud deliver a bouquet of flowers to Forgotten City for Aerith.
I've always wandered why Sephiroth acts so tough while he's just a momma's boy, always calling his mom to fight his battles.
Not his mom though
Not his mom
Did you ever played this game?
@@leonardosanderle525 Jenova is technically not his mother, Lucrecia is. Sephiroth calls Jenova mother because he has her cells
“Acts so tough?”
Sephiroth is literally as strong as Thanos, with or without the infinity gaunlet!
@@cloudshines812 Thanos couldn't lace up Sephiroth's boots with the gauntlet and all the stones.
Bruh the remake is gonna kill us with this scene, i know it for a fact.
Don't think they might change it?
Idk if it's going to happen this time though
Its possible since Aerith is going to keep praying for Holy even in the lifestream
@Mardusflame nope. Thatll ruin the entire reason why FF7 exist
@Mardusflame you must be confused when you saw the "remake" in FF7. What have you learned from Resident Evil 2 remake to FF7 remake? Entertain me?
Imagine getting a game over at the boss and having to re-watch the scene.
This is what almost happened while recording it lol
It was actually almost impossible to lose, just before the fight you get the water ring which makes one character invincible. If you forgot to equip it though... you just damn well better have gotten Mighty Guard 🤣
Imagine watching Aertih die as a 9 years old in 1997.
I didn't see that coming.
"Seven seconds till the end"
Dimitris802 I hope they don’t alter the fate/destiny of this game too much.
Yeah Zack and Aerith deaths shouldn't be altered. She will die anyway imo even if the events change a bit.
@@Akkumako in the ff7 remake , she constanly tell cloud not to fall in love with her , maybe it is a way of her telling her fate
It has nothing to do with Aerith, read the chapter 18 synopsis. She will not die, it’s clear they are changing things, accept it
@@DigimonVids accepting the death of a loved one and learning to live with it is literally the theme that inspired the writers for FF7. We will see what happen anyway, all we can do while waiting is theorize. Smart move guys.
4:03 I love the sound of reflect while this beautiful bgm plays
it is quite elegant
What got me the most is if you have Yuffie in your party, she falls into your arms in sadness and it got me emotional first time
I cried when I was a child, the feeling of and sadness while fighting with Jenova to reach Aerith and try to save her... the flower girl that make me felt so warm and happy to know her and fight until the end ... she has gone.
No matter the time or if this will be remastered... I will cry with this scene , with this version... always.
Im talking serious when I say that this part of the game is a perfect representation of how to be poetic in a videogame.
Cloud's somewhat cringey dialog aside. He talks like he's never experienced the loss of someone's death despite his hometown being burned to the ground and his mother killed by Sephiroth
@@mr.awesome6011 think it's safe to say he bonded more with Aeris tho, its a greater loss. Him and his mom seemed fine but he was always like, a standoffish teen around her, in like, the one scene they get together
@@mr.awesome6011how is that dialogue cringey lmfao? It’s extremely heartfelt and some of the best dialogue in the game.
@@mr.awesome6011 You do realize that Cloud ALSO had five years to recover and STILL felt pain from Nibelheim’s initial destruction?
I’d argue Aeris’ was worse because he literally failed to save her because of his identity crisis
I am conflicted if I wanted this in the remake or not. Aerith’s personality just grew on me on the remake, more than the original ever could. But her death was one of the reasons FF7 was so memorable. But I also don’t want to see her die.
@Daz Ediss not gonna happen.
She wont die, the point of killing literal fate was be free from the events of the original game.
Jose 84 maybe, maybe not. My point is me not knowing what I want. But im definitely leaning towards Aerith living.
Man we are all gonna die anyway.. Just think of that
The core of ff7 is sacrifice , and gain ,not just gain something out of nothing
I remember the first time I came to this fight, I had my limit saved up and I had cloud equipped with a nail bat, used my meteorain limit right when the fight started and literally every hit was a crit and the boss died on the spot, and I was never able to recreate it either, one time thing, blew my young mind lol
Woah
Wow
Bro you had meteor rain at this point? I was still using lv. 2 limits.
@@loveshiningstar yeah you can unlock Meteorain by killing 80 enemies after obtaining blade beam, which is unlock by using braver 8 times I believe, I went around farming for limit breaks and killing stuff early lol
@@loveshiningstar forgive me, Blade Beam is unlocked via killing 80 enemies with Cloud
Fun fact, if you die fighting Jenova Life, you WILL have to watch this scene again... I uh... I'm speaking from experience, just know that Jenova suffered an absolute massacre the second time round.
Yup had to grind up to lv 35 my red 13 to at least survive jehova attacks
This boss is very easy though. The water ring just before it makes you completely invulnerable and unable to lose.
@Megidolaon999 I don't remember exactly, but I think I had my party equipped with armour that had better stats, so I didn't have any reason to use the Water Ring, it's not like I knew what Jenova Life's abilities were.
SPOILERS FOR REBIRTH:
No mistakes this time round, though, the game practically taunted me with Aerith's death, so Jenova just got destroyed.
My niece is a gamer and she was curious to try FF7. I bought it so she can play it on her Switch. I was giving her advice when she asked for it. When she got to this part she did not say much when Aerith died. She lost it when the screen transitioned to the fight with Jenova-Life. I asked if it made an impact when the song did not change. She said “yea.” Moments like this is when I enjoy bonding with someone over a game the same way you did when it came out. I was 8 when I first played this. I am 30 now. My niece is 14 and I am proud to share this moment with her.
😌😌😌🤝🤝👍👍👍 good job
Wrote a lil song to this back in 97 called" WHEN AERITH DIED IT BROKE MY LITTLE HEART" still one of the saddest video game moments EVER
As Aerith theme continues playing and Jenova Life appears to claim your life, you suddenly realize: Sephiroth killed Aerith. You won't forget. You won't forgive.
Won't forgive. WON'T FORGIVE!
SHE WAS SUCH A SWEET PERSON AND YOU KILLED HER! I'LL MAKE YOU PAY!!!
And you, Jenova form! YOU. FUCKING. FIRST!
Reach Apl no jenova killed her
@xex Which makes Aerith adopting the Sephiroth Remnants through the Lifestream all the more satisfying.
@@bojack99 Jenova can shapeshift, Yes. But this was the actual Sephiroth that kills her in the city of the ancients. And he leaves Jenova behind to fight you.
@@GuitarJester89 proof?
@@GuitarJester89 Incorrect. Real Sephiroth is in the cocoon in Northen Crater the whole game. First time we see real Sepgiroth is when Cloud gives him Black Materia. It's Jenova who takes Sepiroths form. But indeed, Jenova is controlled from Sephiroths mind in his crystal cocoon.
when i played this game, this scene hit me so bad. Now with the remake, i got the feeling it will kill me.
You will have to wait like more 20 years for the remake's part 2 to see it (or was it part 5? I don't know).
Me too man, me too 😭
@Jóia Jóia why would she die? The game takes place in midgar and ends before leaving midgar, i don’t remember the temple of the ancients being in midgar
@Jóia Jóia yeah but you clearly said “she didn’t die in the remake” not “she won’t die in the remake”
So I've only recently gotten into the game. I played the remake first tho. I knew Aerith was gonna die and when I got here on my switch, I didn't hurt as much, but it was the music playing during the battle that hit me.
Most glitch filled and yet most emotional cutscene ever.
You lose your friend and then you have a boss fight. I was a kid tearing up and killing this boss...lol this game was real af. i started this game not even knowing what a memory card was. But i got one finally. and beat this game slowly.
This in 4k Full HD when the remake comes in... I am not ready, my body is not ready. I'm gonna fucking cry like I did back then in the 90s...
Cody will shed tears in the scene i know it!
I like how u used "Nanaki" instead of Red XIII 😊. Nanaki goodest boi
Only using his true name ❤ fuck Hojo!
@@Akkumako Agreed.
I just called him Red.
I think Red XIII sounds a million times more cool and badass than Nanaki, which sounds like a diaper brand, but you all do you.
I called him dog in my play through
I remember as a kid I used the Chocobo Summon during the battle, and the stupid sound effects killed the moment
I’m on a everything FF7 marathon watch and can’t stop.
I feel you
I’d like to imagine Vincent saying “It’s not your fault.”
I played this game in 2018, and I (somehow) had no idea going into it that Aerith died, and I was absolutely heartbroken.
The fact this part of the story has been recreated in a for of Aerith's Spirit Battle in Smash Bros. Ultimate is just sanity!
You should know that every fighter and spirit in Smash Ultimate is killed. They are stuck in these trials just fighting against one another and there’s no way home
@@cloudshines812 not the point I am making. If anything, it just makes Aerith’s Spirit Battle more messed up.
You don't know when to tear up or get into that battle mode, That was clever on Square's part to throw your mind off.
Cloud: (in tears) somebody get me a goddamn Phoenix down!!!!!
Bruh why did UA-cam recommend this water reservoir of tears to me 😭
2:12 Sephiroth is just standing there all gangsta waiting for someone to blow him
"So no head?"
*stabs Aerith
9:22 saddest part of the song in my opinion
Not looking forward to this when the remaster comes out :,(
Amethyst 1013 it ok man we got like three months left we can get through this *sniff* who knows maybe they will pull a kingdom heats 1.5 move where they make a new part cutscenes or boss in the game
unfortunately I don't think the first release will get this far. Would've made it more memorable, but there's probably like 10 hours of content past the remaster's plan as far as we can tell. I doubt we'll see the temple of the ancients or cosmo canyon but it's possible considering she leaves right after and Red XIII is in the shinra building rescue. Would make the remaster feel better since Bahamut is also in the temple.
That’s pretty funny. Doubt that matters now
Moon Moon haha 😂
Don’t worry it won’t happen because of all the dimensions lol
I can see this being the game of thrones of remakes
also the way they simulate the beating of her heart until the white materia comes out and falls into the lifestream when it stops
That’s actually just Sephiroth’s theme song, “Those Chosen by the Planet”
3:43 An attack called ''Anger of the land''... anger for the murder of Aerith, who cared for the land more than anyone. Sephiroth just took away nature's caretaker, and now it wants revenge.
This gave me ptsd. And in advent children, I died with every flashback
Just like Cloud
Akumako: ...& that “Promised land” chant soundtrack thingy in the advent... haunts me till this day! Like my heart won’t bear it anymore!
There were a lot of battles
With every battle, there was more sadness
Omg😭Full HD in remake💔💔💔i am not ready for this...
This is what sephiroth meant by 7 seconds in the ff7r game.
Probably yes
The fact that this entire scene, CGI, dialogue and music, was all coordinated in 1997. At the time this was the biggest plot twist in video game history, and it executed it brilliantly.
You act like 97 was 60 years ago, calm down zoomer.
I had Tifa in my party the first time around and it pretty much broke my young self when she broke down at the sight of Aeris after the fight with Jenova.
Thanks, I needed to have that emotional scar torn open again.
I remember fighting this boss so clearly was so shocked n confused that when this boss fight randomly happened I just remember laying waste to jenova trying to get through

I knew Aeris was going to die, but I always thought she’d give her life just casting Holy to stop Sephiroth. I didn’t know that’s what she was doing here, nor did I ever expect Sephiroth to swoop in and down her.
It was at that point, seeing Sephiroth’s sick smile as she guts Aeris, the innocent, sweet flower girl from the slums that I grew close to, that I loathed Sephiroth with all of my being. During the jenova fight, I didn’t give a shit about conserving mana, or strategies, or anything. I was recklessly throwing my strongest spells and attacks at Jenova in a blind rage induced by my emotions. Cloud even fainted twice during the battle.
I played FF7 for the first time just today, and even as a 32 year old, I still was in shock and later fury at Sephiroth during the Jenova battle. I can safely say that no other game has made me feel this way.
This scene always get the better of me. It did all those years ago and it still continues to do so. Each time I need to set afoot my emotions for one way or another I just search for this.😢😢😭😭
The video game scene and battle that broke a generation
Remember, the true antagonist of ff7 is a alien from outerspace not a divinity neither a god
Sephiroth was born on earth during experiments, his mom isn’t actually Jenova. I also think Hojo is the true villain of the story for all the sick shit he’s done to basically everyone
I started playing this game again. Actually 10 years ago I bought a CD to install it on a Window XP machine. At that time I couldn't figure out a way to get through the quest.
Now that I have the youtube tutorial, I still want to not complete the task. Because I want Aerith to live forever...
Oh this hit the feelings really hard playing this as kid in the early 2000s altgough it was brought for my older brothers birthday in 1997. I remember running to my room first time because I saw this scene as I didn't want anyone to see tears in my eyes. 😂. Fun fact. I completed ALL 3 discs at the age of 10 in 2001. Then did it twice more in the following years. This was pre Internet days as we know today. Oh the good old days 😢 ❤🤍
I like how Red XIII is just like half-heartedly saying "please stop that" 🤣
In the end, this was Sephiroth's greatest mistake.
Not only he failed to stop her from casting Holy, he also gave the planet a powerful guardian that will watch over it until the end of time.
Not to mention further hardening the party's resolve to go after him.
Actually it was Jenova, in the OG the real Sephiroth is the one you found in the Northern Crater.
@@CDJaramillo92 It was Jenova controlled by Sephiroth's WILL, the developers answered this clearly.

The real reason the remake is taking WAY too long to release is because the developers are stuck at this scene crying their eyes out from having to make this.
Still own the copy from 97. Played it countless times and this still chokes me up. I feel bad for the people just playing this game because they'll never understand that feeling most of us felt at the time. It's all FORR NIIGGHH and first person shooters.
i've just finished rewatching crisis core and the ending of acc, then came here.

Easily one of the most memorable moments in 90's era Square next to the spontaneous combustion at the opera scene from Parasite Eve and one of the endings to Chrono Trigger(where the main character Crono dies).
This was the point everyone got shot through the feels
Just imagine if you put the other ladies (Yuffie and Tifa) in your party, it will be very sad to see them cry.
I bet in the remake everyone will be there to say there goodbyes to Aerith
