Really cool. I recently got a german helmet myself, but it is a stahlhelm M35 in a really rough shape with holes from rust eating metal on it, no liner, one ventilator missing, very pitted and most of the paint is gone but there is still some parts of the german empire flag on the right side.
Definitely very cool! I just started collecting ww2 german and Japanese militeria again. I am in the northeast, can you give me any tips on where I should look for the ww2 german stuff. Thanks
I find quite a bit at local militaria/antique/thrift shops. I check them quite frequently. Sometimes German stuff pops up. There’s also some good websites I buy from. Like SMG war relics, and sometimes the ruptured duck. I also find quite a bit on eBay, just watch out for fake items. There’s alot of fakes going around.
On the Quist marked M42 helmet there shouldn't be any decal . When Quist made the M42's it was during the decal drop , the decal was probably Field applied so the vet probably laquered over it to keep decal from falling off . As far as the black and rust on the Luftwaffe M40 that was usually the case on alot of the vet bring back helmets that had dried blood on them . Blood turns black after a period of time and rots the sheep skin lining and will deteriats the oil base paint of the helmet . Nice collection of German war memorable items 👍
M42s made by Quist were all rear marked, his helmet has the size stamp on the left side, this is definitely not a Quist made shell. Also Quist M42s are extremely rare, because unlike the other manufacturers they produced the M40 up until mid-late 1944. There is no reason to believe this helmet doesn't have a factory applied decal.
